In optimizing achievement of educational objective, the identification of learning needs become urgent to be conducted, especially for non formal education progam. Ths study is conducted to reveal Pandhalungan societies learning need in the purlieus of Jember. It is used qualitative approach with ethnography as its research design. The ethnography is chosen because the researcher want to describe Jember societies learning need in the purlieus which a part of Pandhalungan ethnic.  This study is done by four step, it was preliminary study, deciding problem category, data collecting, and data interpretation. Data collecting is done by observation, interview, and documentation study. Data Validity is done by triangulation method and resources. This study showed that Pandhalungan societies in the purlieus of Jember have literacy, equality education, life skill, and penyuluhan as their priority learning needs. Key words: Identification of learning needs, Pandhalungan society, purlieus of jember

One of the most important areas of study of the state institution ”Scientific and Practical Centre of The State Forensic Expertise Committee of The Republic of Belarus” (hereinafter referred to as “the Centre”) is plant objects research using sporo-pollen analysis. Sporo-pollen analysis is used in solving of trouble-shooting problems connected with identifying the territory by the character of flora while determining the time of a crime. The Center for the first time in the Belarusian expert practice conducts research on pollen and spores of plants for the purpose of attributing to one batch of psychoactive substances impregnated with inactive matrix of vegetable origin. In this article, we propose a variant of optimizing palynological expert studies which consists in creating reference information retrieval system ”PalExp” (hereinafter referred to as “RIRS”) in which all information about pollen contains. The architecture and the main components of such a system, the questions of creating categories of accounting in the context of peculiarities of pallinological expert research and related problems of the formalization of information presentation, the basic requirements for the formation and functioning of the RIRS are presented. Advantages of this system as compared to the traditional sources of dendrochronological information are presented. The execution of forensic-palynological expertise with RIRS has a number of advantages, namely: shortening the investigation time, obtaining weighty evidences, as well as providing additional guarantees against unreasonable bringing of citizens to criminal and administrative responsibility. Purpose This study examined the relationship between working memory (WM) and speech comprehension in older adults with hearing impairment (HI). It was hypothesized that WM would explain significant variance in speech comprehension measured in multitalker babble (MTB). Method Twenty-four older (59–73 years) adults with sensorineural HI participated. WM capacity (WMC) was measured using 3 complex span tasks. Speech comprehension was assessed using multiple passages, and speech identification ability was measured using recall of sentence final-word and key words. Speech measures were performed in quiet and in the presence of MTB at + 5 dB signal-to-noise ratio. Results Results suggested that participants' speech identification was poorer in MTB, but their ability to comprehend discourse in MTB was at least as good as in quiet. WMC did not explain significant variance in speech comprehension before and after controlling for age and audibility. However, WMC explained significant variance in low-context sentence key words identification in MTB. Conclusions These results suggest that WMC plays an important role in identifying low-context sentences in MTB, but not when comprehending semantically rich discourse passages. In general, data did not support individual variability in WMC as a factor that predicts speech comprehension ability in older adults with HI.

Identification and confirmation of ESTs (expressed sequence tags) corresponding to genomic clones is one of the most important steps in the identification of genes. In this regard, computational approaches such as ab initio and homology based searches using NCBI web portal, together with common laboratory approaches - PCR, RT-PCR and DNA sequencing were used to identify jute ESTs from a jute genomic library. Using degenerate primer-based gene walking from a computationally identified and experimentally verified jute EST, this study has led to the identification of the full length sequence of a jute gene, namely ribosomal protein S8. The sequence of this gene was found to be similar to ribosomal protein S8 gene of related species like Hibiscus macrophyllus, Gossypium hirsutum etc. and that of other species like Carica papaya, Arabidopsis thaliana etc. This gene was further characterized for determining its cellular location to the chloroplast.      Key words: Identification, Characterization, Ribosomal protein S8, Jute D.O.I. 10.3329/ptcb.v19i2.5438 Plant Tissue Cult. & Biotech. 19(2): 207-215, 2009 (December)

The aim of this study was to characterize keratinolytic bacteria isolated from feather waste. Six isolates were recovered from poultry feather- decomposed materials. Isolate Z3 and Z4 showed important feather degrading activity when grown on basal medium containing 1% native feather as the only source of energy, carbon and nitrogen. All isolates were Gram positive and rod-shaped bacilli. Based on microscopic and biochemical analysis, the isolates were identified as Bacillus spp. Keratinolytic activities of these isolates were measured after cultivation of the bacteria on raw feathers. Maximum keratinase activity was showed by the isolate Z4 (22.3 U/ml) with the specific activity of 40.5 U/mg. Bacillus sp. Z4 is a potent producer of keratinase, which can be used for production of the enzyme in large scale.
