Morpho Eugenia is the first part of the postmodernist novel Angels and Insects by A.S. Byatt. The male world is represented here in abundance by numerous names of famous naturalists, philosophers and poets of the XVII-XVIII centuries and of Victorian England, as well as by the male characters of the novel. It is pointed out that the concepts of “masculine” and “non-masculine” in the novel presuppose double reading, namely, the traditional (Victorian) and posttraditional one (neo-Victorian). In the neo-Victorian interpretation, most of the male characters in the novel are devoid of traditional masculine qualities (honor and dignity, commitment to the cause, inner strength), they bear a stigma of vice (incest), while the “male organization” features of the central female character, non-typical for a Victorian woman (talent, efficiency, perseverance, energy, self-reliance), contribute to the formation of an integral harmonious world of men and women as friends, lovers, like-minded people.

The article emphasizes the importance of the language of ecology in teaching English as a second language (L2) to public relations (PR) undergraduates. The research is aimed at making L2 PR undergraduates be aware of the necessity to protect the environment by means of reading specialized literature with a special focus on the language specifying issues of ecological ethics. Linguodidactics sees the educational ecosystem as one of its major trends of future development, as the undergraduates are not only to master single as such, but take them as a system pertaining to a human existence in the benevolent and harmonious world. Environmental conservation deals with sustainability, a subject to be taught through special vocabulary and professionally oriented texts. The methods employed in the present research include analysis and synthesis enabling the process of categorization and systematization. Theoretical achievements of linguodidactics in L2 professional education provide for the necessity to develop emotional competences, emotional intelligence, empathy, sympathy and sensitivity to the surrounding world. The research has shown that specially selected professionally oriented language units help the formation of a certain vision of the ecological situation in the modern world through the professionally oriented PR discourse. Ecological ethics for future PR experts becomes intrinsic for the development of their professional competences. Through the professional PR language, it is possible to establish an ecological aesthetic system aimed at promoting sustainable development regarding the environmental protection.

Abstract As a reaction against the failures of Just War theory in creating a more harmonious world, recent times have seen the emergence of Just Peace as a corrective to the tendency to use Just War as justification for, rather than a warning against, aggravated conflict. This article considers the contribution of Daniel Philpott to this literature, and argues that theoretical concepts alone will be insufficient for the institution of a Just Peace. In looking for complementary images, the article considers two images from the prophetic corpus to image a Just Peace. Strikingly, both prophetic passages draw on ecological imagery to imagine a world at peace.

Games are a unique art form. Game designers don’t just create a world; they create who you will be in that world. They tell you what abilities to use and what goals to take on. In other words, games work in the medium of agency. This book explores what games have to teach us about our own rationality and agency. We have the capacity for a peculiar sort of motivational inversion. For some of us, winning is not the point. We take on an interest in winning temporarily, so that we can play the game. Thus, we are capable of taking on temporary and disposable ends. At the center of this book is a view about games as communicative artifacts. Games are a way of recording forms of agency; they are a library of agencies. And exploring that library can help us develop our own agency and autonomy. But this technology can also be used for art. Games can sculpt our practical activity, for the sake of the beauty of our own actions. Our struggles, in games, can be designed to fit our capacities. Games can present a harmonious world, where our abilities fit the task. Games are a kind of existential balm against the difficult and exhausting value clarity of the world. But this presents a special danger. Games can be a fantasy of value clarity, which can encourage us to oversimplify our enduring values.
