The growth of global energy transportation has promoted the rapid increase of large-scale LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers, and concerns around the safety of LNG ships has attracted significant attention. Such a floating structure is affected by the external wave excitation and internal liquid sloshing. The interaction between the structure’s motion and the internal sloshing under wave actions may lead to the ship experiencing an unexpected accident. In this research, a hydrodynamic experiment is conducted to investigate the motion responses of a floating tank mooring, both close to and away from a dock. The resonance coupling effect of the internal sloshing and gap flow on the tank’s motion is considered. Based on the measured motion trajectory of the floating tank, the stability and safety of the floating tank are estimated. The results show that the sloshing resonance and narrow gap resonance are beneficial to the stability of the ship. This is helpful for controlling the motion of a berthed ship under wave action with a reasonable selection of the gap distance and the liquid level.

The Huckel method is an old fashion method to predict the molecular orbital and energies of  electrons in a conjugated molecule. Although Huckel`s theory`s approximations are relatively crude, its general results are still reasonable compared to the advanced computing method and experimental results for many molecules. This paper describes the Huckel calculation of biphenylene and benzo{3,4}cyclobuta{1,2-c}thiophene using the HuLis software. The benzo{3,4}cyclobuta{1,2-c}thiophene is a derivative of biphenylene, in which case one of the benzene rings is replaced by a thiophene ring. This change produces new electronic properties that are interesting to study. This work focused on calculating those molecules on energy levels diagrams, linear combination coefficient of molecular orbitals, molecular orbital shape, energy gap, resonance energy, bond-order, bond length, and charge distribution (π electron population). Besides, we calculate the harmonic oscillator measure of aromaticity (HOMA) parameter to study the Huckel method`s validity.

Abstract The present research focuses on the experimental and numerical analysis of nonlinear gap resonance which can occur for two side-by-side configured vessels during the offloading operation of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). The proximity of the FLNG (Floating Liquefied Natural Gas) facility and LNGC (Liquified Natural Gas Carrier) brings about the formation of a long narrow gap region between the two vessels. The model test was carried out in a wave flume with vessels of different sizes to obtain the resonance response at different locations in the gap region with the effects of gap distances and vessel drafts in incident waves of different wave frequencies and wave directions analysed. It was found that certain model configurations produce increased wave amplification between the vessels, these were highlighted and presented and have the possibility of being predicted to prevent the occurrence. The numerical analysis was carried out with the potential flow solver SIMA in the time domain and a calibrated damping factor was assigned to suppress the overestimated wave elevation in the narrow gap region.
