Abstract We modified an in-person simulation-enhanced interprofessional education model as necessitated by COVID-19 restrictions to a fully virtual education experience. Online prework remained unchanged but adjustments were made related to previously in-person activities. Diverging from the in-person training we held live virtual poster sessions with learner-presenter interaction. In preparation for their role in the team meeting simulation, learners were moved into preassigned profession-specific breakout rooms for a live virtual huddle with facilitators. Next, learners were moved to preassigned interprofessional breakout rooms where they began the simulated team meeting. After initial discussion, a standardized patient joined the breakout room to present the patient/caregiver perspective. The event ends with a virtual reflective debrief focused on interprofessional collaborative competencies.

In 2021, as the situation due to COVID-19 pandemic was still uncertain, the 18 th annual meeting of the Interuniversity Institute of Myology (IIM), took place on a virtual platform, following the same organization already tested for the previous edition. Participants from Italy, European countries, Canada and USA included clinicians, scientists, pharmaceutical companies and representatives of patient organizations. Four keynote speakers presented new insights into the modulation of muscle stem cell self-renewal in the treatment of neuromuscular disease, the role of nuclear positioning in muscle function, regeneration and tumorigenesis in the heart and advances on therapies of muscular dystrophies. Young PhD students and trainees presented oral communications distributed in five scientific sessions and posters in two poster sessions. On October 21, 2021, selected young scientists participated in the “High Training Course on Advanced Myology”, organized with the University of Perugia, Italy. This course consisted of lectures on muscle regeneration and therapeutic perspectives by internationally recognized speakers, followed by roundtable discussions on “Omics technologies in myology” and “New therapeutic approaches”, plus the meeting itself. Young trainees, winners of past IIM conferences, forming the Young IIM Committee, selected one of Keynote speakers and were involved in the organization of scientific sessions and roundtable discussions. The friendly welcoming of the meeting, which has strongly characterized this event and is of great help in facilitating scientific exchanges and stimulating novel collaborations, was the hallmark of the conference this year again, even on virtual platform. Breakthrough studies showing interdisciplinary works are fostering new avenues in the field of myology. This year again, scientists and students attended the meeting at the huger number, challenging the difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All participants shared the wish to continue and implement IIM meeting with new insights on muscle biology, perspectives in the understanding of the muscle-related diseases and in novel therapeutic approaches. We report here abstracts of the meeting describing basic, translational, and clinical research contributing to the large field of myology.

Background: This paper describes the realisation and evaluation of the EGREPA 2021 conference, in online format. As an example, and support for future conferences, the decision process to switch during the COVID-19 pandemic from onsite to online, the conception and tools, the experiences of the organisers and the feedback of the participants are described. Methods: The CERN tool Indico served as the central conference management system including public homepage, submission and payment system, abstract review and decision platform, and conference material repository. Zoom, YouTube Live and Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) were utilised for keynotes and other presentation sessions, including livestreaming of pre-recorded presentations. Gather was implemented for poster sessions and individual meetings. An anonymous survey included Likert-type questions on acceptance and quality of the tools and instructions, open questions related to positive and negative issues, and ideas for the next online-conference. Results: The event was evaluated well, with mostly fluently working technical solutions. A few participants indicated problems switching from YouTube to Zoom between presentations and discussions. Opinions on pre-recordings of talks were divided. Participants required more time for socialising. Guidelines and materials were mostly rated helpful. Lessons Learned: Simplifying the livestreaming, presenters choice between pre-recording or presenting live, more time for socialising and breaks are discussed. Tools for conducting an online conference should be introduced to the participants in advance. Indico is rated as a very helpful tool for planning and conducting an online-conference. Keywords: Online Conference, Indico, YouTube, OBS, Zoom, Gather, COVID-19, Pandemic

The XXV World Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) was held in Curitiba (Brazil) from September 25 to October 5, 2019. Representatives (2725 people) of forest academic, university and sector science, forestry business, and forestry governmental and non-governmental organizations from 96 countries attended the Congress and made over 2600 reports and presentations. For the first ever time this Congress was held in South America. The Congress motto “Forest Research and Cooperation for Sustainable Development” highlighted the broad subject of the Congress and showed the results of the five major directions of the IUFRO Strategy 2015–2019. The work of the Congress began with general events, including Tree Planting Ceremony, Congress Opening Ceremony, and Welcome Reception for all participants. Plenary Sessions, Technical Sessions, Thematic Discussions, Lectures and Presentations, and Poster Sessions were held according to the Official Program. Professional Excursions, namely Technical Tours and Thematic Exhibitions of products, technologies and services needed and available for the forest sector and forest research were provided. During the Congress, numerous IUFRO awards were delivered to the laureates, including the IUFRO Scientific Achievement Award, Distinguished Service Award, IUFRO Best Poster Award, as well as awards for students. Among the most important decisions of the XXV IUFRO World Congress are the following: Stockholm was selected as the next venue for the XXVI IUFRO World Congress in 2024; Dr. John Parrotta (USA) was elected President of IUFRO (2019– 2024); Professor Daniela Kleinschmit (Germany) and Professor Shirong Liu (China) were elected IUFRO Vice Presidents. The representative of our country Olga Shaitarova from the Saint-Petersburg State Forest Technical University named after S.M. Kirov became a member of the Board. Only eight participants from our country attended the Congress that confirms the insufficient level of financing of forest science in our country. Nevertheless, there is undoubtedly a significant prospect for the participation of Russian scientists in subsequent congresses and the activity within the IUFRO framework in general.
