The article is a biographical outline of the life and achivements of an outstanding chemist Georgy Konstantinovich Boreskov (1907–1984). G. K. Boreskov entered the history of domestic and world science as an outstanding scientist, engineer and teacher. The bright life of the scientist-chemist Boreskov was devoted to the study of catalysis and the closely related problems of chemical kinetics and chemical technology. In his work, fundamental research on catalysis as an interesting chemical phenomenon were harmoniously combined with the successful solution of the most important problems of the chemical industry. With the development of a new catalyst for one of the main industrial processes – the production of sulfuric acid – that G. K. Boreskov began his career in science. Thanks to the introduction of technologies based on his developments, a real breakthrough occurred in some areas of industrial production related to catalysis. In Novosibirsk, Academician Boreskov played the main role in the creation of the country’s first Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, which now bears his name. No less important is the merit of Academician Boreskov as the founder of the scientific school in the field of heterogeneous catalysis.

Nowadays, improving international relations and strengthening international ties are leading trends in the development of world economy. In the epoch of globalization, both western and eastern countries are trying to promote close mutually profitable partnership relations between countries, because it can serve as a trigger for their further gradual development. As it can be observed in the practice, in the 21st century, the dialogue between the developed European countries and the actively developing East is becoming especially successful and efficient for both parties. One of the unique examples of the interest of the West towards the East is the development of Oriental and Mongolian studies in the Czech Republic. Its climax can be observed in the 20th century. The author of the article proves that contemporary Mongolian studies in the Czech Republic play a significant role in European Oriental studies. Analysis of the scientific contribution of the leading Czech specialists in Mongolian studies: P. Poucha, Lumir Iisl, Ya. Vacek, I. Shima, I. Grollova is conducted. A brief description of the current state of Mongolian studies in Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic is given. The author draws a conclusion about the presence of scientific interest towards Mongolian linguistics and culture in Europe, which contributes to strengthening cultural identity of Mongolia. On the basis of continuity of research and the presence of an original scientific school of Mongolian studies in the Czech Republic, the author makes an assumption about the possibility of extending research of the issues of economy and economic geography of Mongolia, which will, undoubtedly, contribute to strengthening the relations between the countries.

The article presents generalizations, in line with world and domestic educational processes, ideas and forms of development of scientific and pedagogical school “Aesthetic culture in the preparation of future educators” by Professor V. Tytarenko. The method of historical-retrospective analysis revealed the progressive achievements of the scientific school as a research center and a collective form of scientific creativity in the field of technological education on theoretical and methodological aspects of technological education of students by means of aesthetic culture and design. The study of the laws of formation of aesthetic culture of pupils and students by means of Ukrainian folk crafts began with the search and study of samples of Ukrainian folk embroidery, description of its techniques, distribution in different areas of certain ornaments, colors, traditions. The result of this work were her books “Ukrainian towel as a means of national education and a work of folk decorative and applied arts”, “Poltava traditional embroidery: past and present”. V. Tytarenko is one of the first initiators of conducting comprehensive research and experiments in Ukraine in the field of decorative and applied art, as well as the methodology of scientific and pedagogical research in this field of knowledge. The scientific interests of Valentyna Tytarenko’s scientific school are focused on the study of the laws of formation of the aesthetic culture of pupils and students by means of Ukrainian folk crafts. The creative team of like-minded people has successfully carried out research in recent years, funded by the state budget on “Theory and methods of forming the aesthetic culture of future technology teachers in the process of personality-oriented training”, and today completes research on “Theoretical -methodical aspects of technological education of pupils and students by means of culture and design”. Continuation of basic and applied research on this topic is implemented in the Poltava regional special research group of teachers of labor training and technology “Design as a method of cognition in the educational field of technology”, which works under the leadership of Professor V. Tytarenko. The formulated results of its activity on theoretical and methodological aspects of technological education of pupils and students by means of aesthetic culture and design which we can observe as a result of opening of ways of use of the maintenance and a technique of preparation of future teachers of labor training and student’s youth for training of the Ukrainian national crafts confirm their full conformity. data presented in the materials of dissertation research of representatives of the scientific school.

The general aim of the current study was to investigate the role of definitional skills in promoting primary school achievement (third- to fifth graders) and how school learning may shape definitional skills. Marks from four school subjects, linguistic (Italian and English) and scientific (Math and Science) were collected as well as scores in a Definitional Task. These two domains were chosen as they clearly entail the two different definition types, that is, lexicographic and scientific. Results indicated that scientific school subject marks are more predictive of definitional skills than linguistic school marks are. The opposite direction (i.e., how definitional skills are predictive of school achievement) appears less clear. In sum, the results, although preliminary, suggest that definitional skills represent a bridge towards school achievement as they promote good marks in all disciplines. Moreover, definitional skills are predicted from levels of competence acquired especially in scientific school subjects that request a higher degree of formal/organized learning. It is then of primary importance to promote interaction–integration between these two kinds of concepts via formal schooling.
