AbstractA filtering algorithm based on frequency domain spline type, frequency domain spline adaptive filters (FDSAF), effectively reducing the computational complexity of the filter. However, the FDSAF algorithm is unable to suppress non-Gaussian impulsive noises. To suppression non-Gaussian impulsive noises along with having comparable operation time, a maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) based frequency domain spline adaptive filter called frequency domain maximum correntropy criterion spline adaptive filter (FDSAF-MCC) is developed in this paper. Further, the bound on learning rate for convergence of the proposed algorithm is also studied. And through experimental simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in suppressing non-Gaussian impulsive noises. Compared with the existing frequency domain spline adaptive filter, the proposed algorithm has better performance.

This paper proposes a nonconvex model (called LogTVSCAD) for deblurring images with impulsive noises, using the log-function penalty as the regularizer and adopting the smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) function as the data-fitting term. The proposed nonconvex model can effectively overcome the poor performance of the classical TVL1 model for high-level impulsive noise. A difference of convex functions algorithm (DCA) is proposed to solve the nonconvex model. For the model subproblem, we consider the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm to solve it. The global convergence is discussed based on Kurdyka–Lojasiewicz. Experimental results show the advantages of the proposed nonconvex model over existing models.

An improved affine projection sign algorithm (APSA) was developed herein using a ℒp-norm-like constraint to increase the convergence rate in sparse systems. The proposed APSA is robust against impulsive noise because APSA-type algorithms are generally based on the ℒ1-norm minimization of error signals. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can enhance the filter performance in terms of the convergence rate due to the implementation of the ℒp-norm-like constraint in sparse systems. Since a novel cost function of the proposed APSA was designed for maintaining the similar form of the original APSA, these have symmetric properties. According to the simulation results, the proposed APSA effectively enhances the filter performance in terms of the convergence rate of sparse system identification in the presence of impulsive noises compared to that achieved using the existing APSA-type algorithms.

Envelope analysis is a widely used tool for fault detection in rotating machines. In envelope analysis, impulsive noise contaminates the measured signal, making it difficult to extract the features of defects. This paper proposes a time–frequency envelope analysis that overcomes the effects of impulsive noises. Envelope analysis is performed by dividing the signal into several sections through a time window. The effect of impulsive noises is eliminated by using the frequency characteristics of the short time rectangular wave. The proposed method was verified through simulation and experimental data. The simulation was conducted by mathematically modeling a cyclo-stationary process that characterizes rotating machinery signals. In addition, the effectiveness of the method was verified by the measured data of normal and defective air-conditioners produced on the actual assembly line. This simple proposed method is effective enough to detect the faults. In the future, the approaches of big data and deep learning will be required for the development of the prognostic health-management framework.
