Workplace relations can be defined as cooperative when actors are satisfied that both their work organization and material concerns are met. However, cooperation is difficult to achieve and especially to maintain over time. A useful point of reference is the work of Bélanger and Edwards, who argue that technology, product markets and institutional regulations are necessary preconditions. Their model is derived mainly from studies of large, publicly-listed enterprises based in particular institutional (Anglo-American) contexts. In the present article the authors examine the case of family-owned, medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Northeast Italy. Bélanger and Edwards’ model provides some but limited theoretical purchase in explaining the high level of ongoing cooperation witnessed in the case firms. In addition, the firms’ concentrated, financially patient capital and family-ownership together with their local embeddedness increase their commitment to their community and facilitate collaboration and investments in it. The authors term these features firms’ socio-economic embeddedness.

AbstractThis research is motivated by the strengthening of discourse regarding the importance of protecting personal data and the issuance of Minister of Communication and Information Regulation No. 20 of 2016 concerning Protection of Personal Data in Electronic Systems. The research objective is to determine the performance of the implementation of the Ministerial Regulation within the District Government. The study was conducted at the Department of Population and Civil Registration at the Government of the Regency of Gianyar, Temanggung, and Sleman by using a case study method, while data collection using literature study techniques, interviews, and observations. The discussion was carried out using the concept of implementation of Edwards model that looked at implementation based on communication variables, sources, trends, and bureaucratic structure. The results showed that the administration of population administration which included the protection of personal data by the Population and Civil Registry Office referred to the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 61 of 2015, while the Minister of Communication and Information Regulation No. 20 of 2016 was completely unknown to them.

Pseudomonas fluorescens HH isolated from soil utilized 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4D) as a sole carbon and energy source. The strain completely utilized 1.0 mM of 2,4D within 30 hr. The immobilized Pseudomonas fluorescens HH degraded 2,4D with higher rates compared to the rates of free-suspension cells. The determination of degradation and cell growth kinetics in exponential growth phase of bacteria showed that both fitted with the Edwards model, in which the maximal utilization rates and inhibition coefficient were 0.079 ± 0.008 mM/h and 0.820 ± 0.03 mM, respectively. The addition of glycerol as a cryoprotectant into alginate increased the survival of bacteria in beads during freeze-drying process, which resulted in reducing the adverse effects of bead lyophilization.

We consider the Beris-Edwards model describing nematic liquid crystal dynamics and restrict it to a shear flow and spatially homogeneous situation. We analyse the dynamics focusing on the effect of the flow. We show that in the co-rotational case one has gradient dynamics, up to a periodic eigenframe rotation, while in the non-co-rotational case we identify the short- and long-time regimes of the dynamics. We express these in terms of the physical variables and compare with the predictions of other models of liquid crystal dynamics.

We report a case of a 57 year-old woman with Starr- Edwards model 6120 mitral valve replacement and Kay- Shiley bioprosthetic tricuspid valve replacement in 1968 at Niguarda Hospital in Milan. The mitral caged-ball has proved its excellent durability and its good hemodynamic performance in many patients, even if subject to high tendency to thrombosis. In literature there is no evidence of durability of this prosthesis longer than 35 years. Our patient after 39 years from mitral valve replacement lives a happy and fulfilling life (NYHA II), with no evidence of hemolysis, ball variance, symptomatic embolization or major bleeding.

This paper establishes the existence of smooth solutions for the Doi–Edwards rheological model of viscoelastic polymer fluids in shear flows. The problem turns out to be formally equivalent to a K-BKZ equation but with constitutive functions spanning beyond the usual mathematical framework. We prove, for small enough initial data, that the solution remains in the domain of hyperbolicity of the equation for all t≥0.
