Abstract We argue against a purely semantic account of the Unique Path Constraint (Goldberg, Adele. 1991. It can’t go down the chimney up: Paths and the English resultative. In Proceedings of the seventeenth annual meeting of the Berkeley, 368–378. Linguistics Society), i.e., the constraint that there can only be one result state in a single clause, and in favor of a syntactic restriction regarding event structure. We propose, following Mateu, Jaume & Víctor Acedo-Matellán. 2012. The manner/result complementarity revisited: A syntactic approach. In M. Cristina Cuervo & Yves Roberge (eds.), The end of argument structure? Syntax and semantics, 209–228. New York: Academic Press, that structurally there can only be one result predicate per clause since the little v head selects for one result predicate as its complement. In order to make our claim, we provide novel data that violate the Unique Path Constraint defined as a semantic constraint. Further, we analyze examples that at first blush pose a problem for the present account as they appear to involve two result phrases, e.g., shot him dead off the horse. We argue, however, that the second result phrase is not syntactically a result, but rather constitutes a case of what Acedo-Matellán, Víctor, Josep Ausensi, Josep Maria Fontana & Cristina Real-Puigdollers. forthcoming. The re-entry trajectory of maneuvering vehicles with medium to high hypersonic lift-to-drag ratios is generally planned using quasi-equilibrium flight conditions known from Space Shuttles. They may exhibit an oscillation re-entry phenomenon termed skip re-entry when related components or sensors fail. However, conventional re-entry guidance only considers quasi-equilibrium flights and ignores the possibility of the occurrence of an unexpected skip trajectory; this may lead to the failure of the re-entry mission due to a lack of a corresponding guidance strategy. However, the detection of a skip trajectory is the necessary reference for the decision-making of calling a related guidance algorithm that helps improve the safety of vehicle re-entry. Herein, a skip re-entry detection and trajectory control solution is proposed to play an emergency role in the cases of skip re-entry. Firstly, the oscillation frequency characteristics of the linearized re-entry motion equation of a vehicle are analyzed, and an approximate analytical relationship is constructed for skip altitude estimation. Then, the residual deviation between the altitude feedback data and the estimated skip altitude is calculated and compared with the threshold to determine the occurrence of skip re-entry. In addition, a method for controlling the skip re-entry trajectory with the range extension is developed by controlling the bank angle with a fixed angle of attack profile, satisfying the path constraint requirements. The results indicate that the method effectively performs skip re-entry detection and that it can help extend the range of the vehicles in abnormal re-entry scenarios, keeping the flight within the path constraints and guiding it to the expected location.

This paper handles the problem of intercepting a superior missile using a formation of lower-capabilities pursuers. The problem is formulated as multi-player differential game and solved using optimal control techniques. This approach makes use of the Apollonius circles as a final path constraint of the problem in order to achieve the capturing conditions. Additionally, a dimensionality reduction technique based on differential flatness property of the formation is investigated.

The spaceborne transmitter/missile-borne receiver (ST/MR) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) could provide several unique advantages, such as wide coverage, unrestricted geography, a small detection probability of the missile, and forward-looking imaging. However, it is also accompanied by problems in imaging, including geometric model establishment and focusing algorithm design. In this paper, an ST/MR SAR model is first presented and then the flight-path constraint, characterized by geometric configurations, is derived. Considering the impacts brought about by the maneuvers of the missile, a non-‘Stop-Go’ mathematical model is devised and it can avoid the large errors introduced by the acceleration, which is neglected in the traditional model. Finally, a two-dimensional (2-D) scaling algorithm is developed to focus the ST/MR data. Without introducing any extra operations, it can greatly remove the spatial variations of the range, azimuth, and cross-coupling phases simultaneously and entirely in the 2-D hybrid domain. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and focusing approach.
