Energy efficiency and leakage magnetic field (LMF) are two important issues in electric vehicle inductive chargers. In this work, the maximum achievable coil efficiency and the corresponding LMF strength are formulated as functions of system parameters, and figures of merits (FOM) are proposed for assessing the efficiency and LMF performance of the coil assembly pair. The impacts of the coil assemblies’ geometric parameters on both FOMs are examined with the aid of finite element analysis (FEA), and measures to improve the FOMs are suggested based on FEA results. A manual optimization process is conducted on a coil assembly pair. Compared with the initial design, the optimized one results in a higher DC-to-DC efficiency and lower LMF strength while consuming less copper. The performance improvement is verified by FEA results and experimental data measured on an 85 kHz electric vehicle inductive charger prototype. The key measures for coil assembly optimization are summarized.

Theoretical and experimental researches of vibration-induction transducer (VIT) outlet signal formed during exposure to normal leakage magnetic field intensity component Hn over the defective area were carried out. Theoretical research is based on an assumption that VIT signal is a trigonometric series that is limited by first five harmonics. As initial data for mathematical model creation, well-known conformities for Hn distribution over the defective area were used. Based on acquired mathematical model conformities of VIT signal harmonical composition permutation during its movement over the defective area with varying amplitudes and vibration frequency were found. Theoretical research results were proven experimentally. Moreover, additional possibilities of this way of magnetic testing are shown in comparison with conventional ones.

The paper introduces the main issues concerned with the conceptual design process of wireless power systems. It analyses the electromagnetic design of the inductive magnetic coupler and proposes the key formulas to optimize its electrical parameters for a particular load. For this purpose, a very detailed analysis is given focusing on the mathematical concept procedure for determination of the key factors influencing proper coupling coils design. It also suggests basic topologies for conceptual design of power electronics and discusses its proper connection to the grid. The proposed design strategy is verified by experimental laboratory measurement including analyses of leakage magnetic field.
