Focusing on preservice classroom teachers (PCTs) with a physical education (PE) specialization, this exploratory case study aimed at investigating the teaching quality in the lessons offered by these teachers during their field placement, as well as examining their views about teaching PE. Toward this end, seven volunteer female PCTs studying at a national university in Cyprus were recruited; all had attended three PE specialization courses before their field placement. Data were gathered through systematic observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The quantitative data were analysed using SPSS and the qualitative data using case and cross-case analysis. These analyses suggested that the PCTs could effectively employ classroom and time management as well as skill demonstration; they could also provide quality student practice. In contrast, task progression, accountability of student practice, and task explicitness appeared to be more challenging for them to successfully enact. Interestingly, their lesson plans foreshadowed how effectively most of the examined practices would be employed by the PCTs. This study contributes a new understanding of PCTs’ PE teaching during field placement and their views thereof. The implications of the findings for PCTs’ education are discussed.

This is clearly illustrated by: a mosaic portrait of T. G. Shevchenko made in 1961; exhibitions at the Taras Shevchenko Kiev State University 1963–1964; the development in 1967 of scenography on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Les Kurbas, which he implemented together with colleagues Viktor Grigorov and Viktor Ponomarev during his studies at the Kiev State Art Institute and in sketches from summer student practice in 1962 and 1964,that the artist himself considers significant in the formation of personal creative style.

Abstract The study is focussed on perception of teaching practices by pre-service teachers in preschool and primary education university programmes. Further, the study analysed the reality shock that occurred in these students during teaching practice. The sample consisted of 41 students in preschool education programmes, while 54 students followed the primary-level education programme. The data collection methods were student portfolios and student diaries from teaching practice. In the portfolios it was possible to analyse the activities, opinions, attitudes and products of student practice. Diaries reported students’ feelings and everyday experience in the schools. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the data. Two significant findings were obtained, i.e., supervising teachers’ frequent unprofessional behaviour towards student teachers, and the somatic and emotional exhaustion of students.

Guided Inquiry is a means by which student enquiry can be facilitated in schools, while simultaneously being the vehicle for evidence-based practice. This paper illustrates this twin purpose in two contexts: An overview discussion of the 2008 NSW Association of Independent Schools’ Project, led by Dr. Todd, and a 2010 Guided Inquiry at Loreto Kirribilli. Both projects are discussed as student practice and as a means of gathering data about student learning using the School Library Impact Measure (SLIM) Toolkit, while highlighting the use of wiki as an organising tool. Lastly, the paper affirms the impact that Guided Inquiry has had on some Sydney schools.
