Total synthesis of phenanthroquinolizidine alkaloid cryptopleurine was achieved in 8 steps from commercially available 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde and epoxide derived from methyl eugenol. The key intermediate 5 enables the divergent synthesis of cryptopleurine derivatives by late-stage installation of various substituents on the C-ring.

Abstract Large numbers of dacine specimens were collected throughout Papua New Guinea by trapping and host fruit sampling. Steinertype fruit fly traps, baited with cue lure, methyl eugenol or vanillylacetone (zingerone), were set in many localities over a wide range of ecosystems. In most cases, the traps were serviced on 2-week cycles for at least 1 year. Samples of rainforest and cultivated fruits were collected in some provinces. All specimens collected were preserved in a dry state and sent to R.A.I. Drew at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia, for microscopic identification and curation. Data and photographs of Bactrocera longicornis were received from the Museum Nationale d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France. The subgeneric classification used herein follows Drew and Hancock (2016) and Hancock and Drew (2006, 2015, 2016, 2017a,b,c,d,e, 2018a,b,c, 2019).

Central Bangka Regency is one of central orange production in Bangka Belitung Islands Province. One of the important pests of sweet orange plants is fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae). This research aimed to study the diversity of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) on sweet orange plantations in Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The fruit flies were collected using Lynfield traps which installed in three villages producing sweet oranges in Central Bangka Regency. The types of attractants used to trap male fruit flies are methyl eugenol and cue lure. The fruit flies collected during the study were 4795 individuals, 3 genera, and 14 species. Fruit flies collected from the methyl eugenol were different compared to those collected using lure attractant trap. Most species (13 species) of fruit fly were found in Terentang village, and the rest was same (9 species). Bactrocera carambolae and B. dorsalis were the dominant fruit fly species in the three research locations.

Abstract The main pest in the Cucurbitaceae family is the fruit fly. The common effort to control fruit flies is using a trap with methyl eugenol (ME) and cue lure (CUE) as an insect attractant. The trap height installation is also affecting the fruit fly population. The fruit fly population in the field has an important effect on the damage intensity in the commodity. This research objective was to study the distribution and diversity of fruit fly on the cucumber field with trap height installation and attractant combination. The used research method was Factorial Group Randomized Design (RAKF). The first factor was attractant combination of Metil Eugenol (ME) and Cue Lure (CUE) consisted of 6 treatment levels were K1 : 5 mL ME, K2: 5 mL ME + 1 mL CUE, K3: 5 mL ME + 3 mL CUE, K4: 5 mL ME + 5 mL CUE, K5: 5 mL ME + 7 mL CUE and K6 : 5 mL CUE. While the second factor was the high tramp installation consisted of 3 treatment levels were T1: 50 cm, T2: 100 cm, and T3: 150 cm. The treatment consisted of 3 replication on three different cucumber fields. The result showed discovered fruit fly species were eight species, B. dorsalis (Hendel), B. carambolae Drew & Hancock, B. occipitalis (Bezzi), Z. caudata (Fabricius), B. umbrosa (Fabricius), B. neocognata Drew & Hancock, Z. cucurbitae (Fabricius) and B. albistrigata (de meijere). The dominant fruit fly in each treatment in fruit fly fields was B. dorsalis (Hendel). The best treatment in trapping fruit fly was K1 (5 mL ME) with trap height installation T1 (50 cm). The diversity and species richness of fruit fly in the cucumber field was considered low and uneven.

Laccase-based biocatalytic reactions have been tested with and without mediators and optimized in the oxidation of allylbenzene derivatives, such as methyl eugenol taken as a model substrate. The reaction primarily consisted in the hydroxylation of the propenyl side chain, either upon isomerization of the double bond or not. Two pathways were then observed; oxidation of both allylic alcohol intermediates could either lead to the corresponding α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound, or the corresponding benzaldehyde derivative by oxidative cleavage. Such a process constitutes a green equivalent of ozonolysis or other dangerous or waste-generating oxidation reactions. The conversion rate was sensitive to the substitution patterns of the benzenic ring and subsequent electronic effects.

Abstract Forest clove is native to Maluku from the non-aromatic class. Forest cloves have several variants, including the accession group with a small morphological size in the population. So far, the complete information on essential components contained in this accession group is not studied. The research aims to determine the forest clove accession group's total essential oils with small morphological sizes originating from its distribution area on Ambon Island, Maluku. The analyses were performed on flowers, flower stalks, and leaves using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The analysis results identified 11 components in the flower section, 14 components on the flower stalk, and 13 components on the leaf. The main components analysis of the heat map profile revealed that the small morphological-sized forest clove accession groups' main components were germacrene-D, α-cubebene, eugenol, δ-cadinene, α-copaene, methyl eugenol.
