The significance of a research article abstract has recently turned the focus of linguistics on the Genre analysis of abstract articles. Taking into account this wide research topic, this study aims at investigating the micro structures in the linguistics and engineering abstracts. In the previous studies, this comparison has not been addressed by the researches, hence the present study aims to fill in the gap. The corpus contained 30 abstracts, 15 of linguistics and 15 of engineering. The micro analysis was carried out on the basis of Swales and Feak’s (2009) model. The results revealed that there was no very significant difference between the linguistics and engineering abstracts at the micro level. This study is deemed to be beneficial for the researchers as it provides a framework of analyzing two different disciplines in terms of their abstracts.

A plethora of research on academic discourse analysis has supplied empirical findings that readers' impression of texts can be managed through the utilization of metadiscoursal resources linked to the social intentions and practices of academic communities. However, the writers’ efforts in meeting the readers’ expectations through metadiscourse in the specific rhetorical moves of abstracts across disciplines have not been much researched. The study examines the rhetorical moves of research article abstracts (RAAs) and the distribution of metadiscourse markers (MDMs) across the identified moves using a corpus of 300 abstracts in four disciplines. The analysis shows that product, purpose, and method moves were given more prominence by most of the writers across disciplines. Transition markers were the most utilized interactive markers, while hedges and engagement markers were the most prominently used interactional markers. This study provides implications for research article abstract writers to manage readers' impression of texts and comply with the expectations of the discourse community in their respective fields.

The author expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, as well as to S.N. Morozov (IWL RAS) and S.R. Fedyakin (Gorky Literary Institute) for their assistance in the preparation of the article. Abstract: The article uses the material of G.V. Adamovich’s publications in emigrant periodicals to address the problem of critical reception of I.A. Bunin’s novel “The Life of Arsenyev” in the late 1920s – early 1950s. Bunin in 1928–1939 published his novel in parts. At the same time, the appearance in the magazine “Sovremennye zapiski” (Paris) of each of the five books included in the novel and the release of individual book editions were preceded by the publication of fragments of “The Life of Arsenyev” in emigrant newspapers. This explains the relatively large 324 Литературный факт. 2021. № 3 (21) number of Adamovich’s responses to Bunin's novel. The critic did not let “The Life of Arsenyev” out of his field of view from the time of the publication of her third book in “Sovremennye zapiski” (1929) until the first complete edition of the novel was published in the New York Chekhov Publishing House (1952). The article traces how Adamovich’s attitude to Bunin’s work was adjusted over the years, and how, as a result, sophisticated pickiness was replaced by unconditional admiration. The empirical material is grouped taking into account the chronology of the publication of “The Life of Arsenyev”. The research methods used are the principle of historicism and comparative analysis.
