Abstract The interests of companies have increased to reduce or remove the waste produced during the manufacture, usage and/or disposal of the goods of the company. The necessity for such activities has been prioritised, while current research attempts to uncover the components which promote or dissuade such actions. With the advent of ISO 14001 corporate environmental management systems became the focus of attention (EMS). The basic premise is that such a system is crucial for the capacity of an enterprise to decrease waste and pollution and improve its overall performance concurrently. In this research, this assumption is assessed. Based on the data given by North American executives surveys, their behavior towards EMS and ISO 14001, the research evaluates the relative impacts of a formal but not certified EMS compared to a formal, certified system. The findings show firmly that companies with a formal EMS perceive well beyond pollution reduction and that the effect on many aspects of operating performance is critically favorable. The findings indicate that companies that have received EMS certification have a higher performance effect than companies that do not have their EMS certification. Moreover, experience with these systems has a larger effect on the selection and usage of environmental choices over time. These findings show the necessity to investigate deeper EMS, the environmental choices of a company and the direct and indirect connections between these systems and performance.

With global resource waste and environmental pollution becoming increasingly serious, corporate investment environmental performance (CIEP) of blockchain industry has received much attention from researchers over the past decade. As an important part of economic development, enterprises also pay increasing attention to environmental protection and pollution control. CIEP of blockchain industry is regarded as the result of corporate environmental management. Assessing CIEP of blockchain industry can not only make enterprises focus on the environmental protection and management but also promote sustainable social development. Also, it is always viewed as multiattribute group decision making (MAGDM). Thus, a new MAGDM model is used to tackle it. Based on the CODAS (combinative distance-based assessment) method and intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs), this paper designs the distance-based IF-CODAS method to assess CIEP. Eventually, an application about CIEP evaluation is employed to show the superiority of the defined method. The results illustrate that the defined framework is very useful for assessing CIEP.

We investigate whether female executives influence corporate environmental management (green management). Based on a difference-in-difference approach, our study provides evidence that female CFOs conduct more environmentally responsible activities, and the effects are more prominent when firms are of high risks. Female CFOs are more likely to involve in environmental management voluntarily. Further, environmental management improves firm performance such as debt cost saving. This research advances the gender diversity literature and suggests that female executives play an important role in corporate decisions and firm performance.

The present study aims to determine the impact of green innovation (GI) on the overall performance of an organization while keeping the variable of environmental management (EM) as a moderator. We used a dataset consisting of four data years, from 2014 to 2017, of A-share companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE). The concept of green innovation refers to the use of advancements in technology that enable savings in energy, along with the recycling of waste material. When advanced technology is utilized in the production process, the products are referred to as green products and the whole process of adopting such technologies and product design is referred to as “Corporate Environmental Management”. Such innovations improve the overall financial performance of companies as it enables them to improve their social image by reducing their carbon footprint and ensures their long-term sustainability. The main issue is the limited focus and attention given to the topic, from the perspective of companies. This research focuses on the impact of green innovation and the importance of environmental management for the sustainability of companies. Our findings suggest that the relationship between green innovation and the performance of the company is positive and verifies the existence of moderating effects of environmental management on the relationship between green innovation and firm performance. Implications are given to academia and practitioners.

Nowadays, due to the quick increase of population, degradation of the environment and social disparity moving towards sustainability is an indispensable issue. Aside from this importance, paying attention to sustainability provides opportunities for firms to be innovative. Previous studies largely focused on identifying drivers that enhance the firm capacity to innovate new products and services. However, less attention has been paid to sustainability orientation as a direct driver of a firm’s innovativeness leading towards long term business performance. In this study, sustainable supply chain drivers, strategic sustainability orientation and firm performance have been evaluated. The mediating concepts such as corporate environmental management and corporate social responsibility impacting the relationship between strategic sustainability orientation and firm performance have been tested too. The results illustrate that employees’ motivation and managerial attitude have positive impacts on strategic sustainability orientation and on the other hand strategic sustainability orientation with the mediating roles of corporate environmental management and corporate social responsibility has a positive effect on firm performance. This study was conducted on 120 Iranian companies that are active in food industries by using the SEM method.
