The main objective of this research – intervention is focused on promoting the description and characterization of a network of emotional support as a psychotherapeutic model at a cancer hospital setting, led to the relatives of those who are experiencing the phenomenon of cancer. To carry out the work, use was made of the constructionist approach systemic - constructivist, which allowed not only the construction of interactional contexts with the people involved, but also the generation of an experiential and symbolic process of research on the phenomenon. From there, they facilitated understanding, hermeneutics from the perspective the way in which people who had experienced the phenomenon of cancer, senses and social meanings built, family and therapeutic about the different actions in the cancer experience. The research - intervention, took in to consideration the look narrative is based on different epistemological and paradigmatic early systemic perspective. It was conducted at the Hospital of San Ignacio, taking in to account the parameters of research that establishes the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana through the Masters in clinical psychology with systemic approach. Seven conversational narrative scenarios as a support network in which fourteen people, relatives of terminally ill patients and were related Javeriano Cancer Center participated were conducted. Qualitative research and study methodology, from which an experiential, subjective and contextual analysis of the experiences of each person is allowed intervention was used, - to carry out the investigation process. From there, the being able to pick up the different versions of the way in which people lived and meant the phenomenon of cancer, made possible the construction and reconstruction of identity processes of each of the participants, including investigating - intervening in where the therapeutic conversational scenarios, became a process of co-construction of realities and identities. As results evidenced how different family systems able to configure a world of meanings and directions about faith, spirituality and family unity as resilient resources in building worlds from the experience hopeful about cancer phenomenon, taking in to account the organization and reorganization of family dynamics to face a critical moment of life as is the terminal disease one of its members, resulting in drastic changes of meanings, interactions, feelings and painful feelings in the way of a process Hospital.

Purpose Despite the importance of the first Chinese language movement in the early 1970s that elevated the status of Chinese as an official language in British Hong Kong, the movement and the colonial state’s response remained under-explored. Drawing insights primarily from Bourdieu and Phillipson, this study aims to revisit the rationale and process of the colonial state’s incorporation of the Chinese language amid the 1970s. Design/methodology/approach This is a historical case study based on published news and declassified governmental documents. Findings The central tenet is that the colonial state’s cultural incorporation was the tactics that aimed to undermine the nationalistic appeal in Hong Kong society meanwhile contain the Chinese language movement from turning into political unrest. Incorporating the Chinese language into the official language regime, however, did not alter the pro-English linguistic hierarchy. Symbolic domination still prevailed as English was still considered as the more economically rewarding language comparing with Chinese, yet official recognition of Chinese language created a common linguistic ground amongst the Hong Kong Chinese and fostered a sense of local identity that based upon the use of the mother tongue, Cantonese. From the case of Hong Kong, it suggests that Bourdieu’s conceptualisation of state formation paid insufficient attention to the international context and the non-symbolic process of state-making itself could also shape the degree of the state’s symbolic power. Originality/value Extant studies on the Chinese language movement are overwhelmingly movement centred, this paper instead brings the colonial state back in so to re-examine the role of the state in the incorporative process of the Chinese language in Hong Kong.

Many researchers have stressed the embodied nature of mathematical understanding. Here we explore how embodied knowledge may evolve as students learn a basic calculus concept: the rate of change. We examined undergraduate students with different levels of calculus knowledge working in pairs to model the rate of change in an everyday phenomenon. Our findings revealed substantial differences between advanced and introductory students in how they represented the rate of change with their speech and gestures. In particular, the advanced students’ embodied representations showed alignment with the formal symbolic process of integration and reflected more advanced ways to coordinate the relation between multiple changing variables. For example, advanced students often made gestures that represented a “disk” when explaining how the rate at which water rose in a bottle was related to the change in height. Thus, both introductory and advanced students demonstrated embodied knowledge through speech and gestures, but the advanced students constructed different concrete representations that reflected an advancement in their embodied knowledge. Our findings are relevant to calculus education and to the study of gestures in mathematics learning.

This visual essay narrates three parallel bodies of photographic work, which negotiate the role of context, displacement and geocultural relocation as metaphors for self-definition. The conceptual framework of the work is underpinned by the psychoanalytic theories of Murray Bowen and Morgan Scott, which locate self-perception at the centre of the familial context and define the quest for self-definition as a symbolic process of map-making. This approach describes a psychological landscape where the fluid relationship between collective and personal identity is conveyed through the metaphor of ‘Mal de Débarquement’ (a diagnosable condition that means nausea of disembarkation). This kind of embedded fluidity in self-representation insinuates a new approach to the practice and possibilities of photographic portraiture, and challenges the traditional definition, which associates the portrait with the depiction of a fixed identity.

Permutation entropy (PE) is evolved as an important way to reveal the intrinsic characteristics of complex systems. While PE does not consider that the amplitudes of identical order sequences might be different, weighted permutation entropy (WPE), the extended technique, weighs each vector to alleviate this problem. Furthermore, experimental investigation shows that symbolizing the time series contributes to detecting sudden dynamical changes. As an exemplary measure, we study weighted symbolic permutation entropy (WSPE) which is a combination of WPE and threshold-dependent symbolic entropy to mount the intrinsic information of four stock indices from China and America stock markets, and six sector indices of banking, aviation industry and pharmacy from China stock markets. One thing needs to be especially pointed out is that symbolic method we use in this work is not the most common method which divides time series into some small bins, but a two-step process, including symbolic process and coding process. The statistical analysis in stock indices shows that WSPE method is capable of distinguishing stock indices and detecting economic crises.

The marketing dynamics of the study and praxis of persuasion present different interweavings with the time frame chosen. Even so, we consider that the only one offering a stable reference background is religious communication, because even if interpretations may differ, the basic principles of association towards individual apprehension and comprehension remain the same. It is the author intention to try to map out possible connections between persuasion, as a symbolic process, and religious symbolic communication, by assuming that, in a Biblical sense, communication is intrinsic to the act of being of all humanity.

Rollingstone; February 9th, 2006 edition was made because there is the meaning intended on it. The researcher uses critical multimodal discourse analysis from O’Halloran (2004), Kress and Van Leeuwen (2006), Halliday and Matthiessen (2014). The objectives of this study are to describe the generic structure potential, representational meaning, and the context of situation of Rollingstone; February 9th, 2006 edition. The approach of this study is qualitative research and the type is document research. The researcher uses document from the picture of Rollingstone; February 9th, 2006 edition which taken from Rollingstone’s official website. Analysis techniques flow model of this study are collecting the data, displaying and concluding. The results of this study are (1) There are some generic structure potential elements found. They are Lead, LoA, Comp. LoA, Display, Emblem, Announcement, Enhancer, Call and Visit Information and missing one element that is Tag. (2) The representational meaning of this magazine cover by applying narrative process for action process and conceptual representation for symbolic process. (3) The context of situation divided into field, tenor and mode. Field consists of The College Dropout Album, Jesus Walks Songs, 47th Grammy Awards, Rollingstone; February 9th, 2006 edition. Tenor consists of Kanye West as Song Writers, Rollingstone as production house and the target market. The mode consists of the word “The Passion of Kanye West”.
