Food poisoning is a serious public health problem in the world that needs to be addressed as early as possible. However, mitigation efforts can be possi-ble only when data and information resulting from the implementation of monitoring or continuous surveillance are available. Here we report a study that was conducted taking into account all the data of poisoning report sheets, filled in by the doctor in charge of the case or, failing that, by the nurse, coming from health facilities (in sixteen regions in Tlemcen) were in-cluded in the analysis. For data processing, we have used some descriptive tools such as the frequencies and the lethality rates. The description of the sample concerned the characteristics of the poisoned population (year, gen-der, age, origin, hospitalisation, etc.) and the characteristics related to the suspected food. The survey showed a concentration of family focus, espe-cially in urban areas. Meats, Chickens and cream filled bakery food were the three most important incriminated foods and most of the infections in the outbreaks were related to fecal coliform, Clostridium and Staphylococcus. Some of the factors identified to contribute to food poisoning were lack of self-hygiene by food handlers and poor water and environmental supplies, poor preservation of food, the consumption of inadequately cooked or thawed meat or chicken, cross-contamination of food from infected food handlers, as well as the lack of awareness and information transmission and the lack of health infrastructures and means of communications. The present study highlights the needs for creating adequate infrastructure related to hygiene, regular epidemiological monitoring and increasing the awareness level of the residents.

Pasien tergolong dalam kecacatan derajat II berdasarkan tingkat kecacatan kusta WHO.

The Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) phenomenon has creatively deformed the traditional concept of the Filipino family. The Anak ng OFWs’ narratives on parent-child relationships in a mediated setting show the transformative elements that usher the need to defamiliarize its traditional concept and reconfigure the Filipino family. Using the frameworks of Defamiliarization, Deconstruction and the idea of situated difference, the study illustrates how a defamiliarized perspective provides a negotiated fresh perspective of the Filipino family. Focus group discussions and interviews reveal findings that the “Anak ng OFWs” point to superficial, if not routine, conversations in online platforms, mediated relationships that are performed, and characterized by nakasanayan na [getting used to] perspective and the yearning for magkakasamang pamilya [a family that is together]. The study concludes that in a defamiliarized perspective, the situated difference is where OFW parents remain as the haligi [head of the family] and ilaw ng tahanan [pillar o the home] and where the essence of “family-ness” persists despite the cracks and fractures of the OFW family.

BACKGROUND Children with cancer experience myriad nutritional challenges impacting their nutrition status throughout treatment and into survivorship. Growing evidence suggests that weight status at time of diagnosis impacts cancer outcomes, yet provider guidance on nutrition and diet through treatment is variable. Nutrition literacy and culinary resources may help mitigate some common nutritional problems; however, many patients may have barriers to access in-person classes. Web-based resources, such as the newly-updated The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s (MDACC) “@TheTable,” may facilitate access to nutrition and culinary education, alongside dietitian-led clinical interventions during treatment and into survivorship. OBJECTIVE We sought to define and describe the web-based cookbook “@TheTable,” its features and content, as well as analogous resources for a lay audience of pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and their families. METHODS We evaluated web-based, freely-available resources via popular online search engines (i.e., Google). These searches yielded three web-based resources analogous to “@TheTable”: the American Institute for Cancer Research’s (AICR) “Healthy Recipes,” Children’s Hospital of San Antonio’s (CHOSA) “Recipe for Life,” and Ann Ogden Gaffney and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s (FHCRC) “Cook for Your Life.” These sites were analyzed for the following criteria: recipe quantity; search functionality; child- or family-focus; cancer-focus; specific dietary guidance; videos or other media; miscellaneous unique features. RESULTS “Cook for Your Life” (FHCRC) and “Recipe for Life” (CHOSA) emerged as the most comparable to “@TheTable” in their cancer- and family-focus, respectively. “Healthy Recipes” (AICR) provides the least user-friendly experience, given few search options and absence of didactic videos. CONCLUSIONS The web-based cookbook “@TheTable” is unique in its offering of child- and family-focused content centered on the cancer and survivorship experience.

Abstract Aim: The aim of this study was to describe Child Health Service (CHS) nurses’ experiences with conducting individual parental conversations (IPCs) with non-birthing parents. Background: CHS nurses in Sweden mainly focus on monitoring a child’s physical and mental development and the mothers’ health in order to support their parenthood. The assignment of the CHS includes identifying dysfunctional social relationships in a family and strengthening responsive parenting. An imbalance arises within the family when someone in the family suffers from illness, which could have a negative effect on the whole family’s health and well-being. Methods: An inductive, descriptive qualitative study design was used to describe and to gain an understanding of the CHS nurses’ experiences. Data were collected in 13 interviews, and a qualitative content analysis was performed. Findings: The analysis of interviews with CHS nurses resulted in two main categories, each with three subcategories. The main categories are: working for equality and applying a family focus, and dealing with challenges in the developing assignment. The IPCs stimulate the CHS nurses to work for more equality and to apply a family focus, which can be a way of strengthening the families’ health and the children’s upbringing. Developing the CHS nurses’ assignment can be a challenge that appears to entail positive outcomes for CHS nurses, while also generating the need for CHS nurses to receive supervision to find ways to improve their approach and practice.

ABSTRACT Aim: To evaluate quality of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in the National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care in the Federal District (FD) from the perspective of users. Methods: Evaluative research carried out in 25 basic health units of the Federal District through a validated questionnaire assessing the following dimensions: access, gateway, bond, service range, coordination, family focus, community orientation, and health professionals. Results: Service provision, qualification of professionals, quality of professional-user relationship, and continuity of care were the best evaluated dimensions, while family approach, community approach, and access were the worst. Access to the FHS was found to be compromised, besides failing to establish itself as gateway to the FD health system. Conclusion: When they can access the local system, FD users do enjoy several services, but access is still a barrier, mainly because the very system is not prepared to meet users’ needs/preferences. The dimensions regarding family focus and community orientation are precarious, which reveals the need for reflection on the care model adopted in the Federal District.

Purpose: A significant portion of adolescents who engage in suicidal behaviors are of Hispanic origin, yet little is known regarding interventions to reduce suicidal behaviors among Hispanic adolescents. Through a culturally responsive framework, this study describes and systematically maps the existing research on interventions to treat suicidality among Hispanic adolescents. Method: Using Arksey and O’Malley’s scoping review methodology, nine publications were selected for review from available peer-reviewed literature published between 2013 and 2017. Results: Eight interventions were identified. All were published in nonsocial work journals. Interventions were implemented in either mental health or after-school community settings and included a family focus. Discussion: The analysis revealed three themes: (1) There is scant research on this topic, (2) there is a void of social work scholarly literature regarding this issue, and (3) identified interventions generally include culturally responsive factors. Implications for social work research and practice are discussed.
