A novel fluorescence probe NA-LCX was rationally designed and synthesized for the sequential recognition of Cu2+ and H2S by the combination of hydroxyl-naphthalene and diformylphenol groups. The response properties of NA-LCX for Cu2+ ions and H2S with “on-off-on” manner were investigated by fluorescence emission spectra. A highly selective and sensitive response of complex NA-LCX-Cu2+ for H2S over other competing amino acids was observed with a limit of detection at 2.79 μM. The stoichiometry of NA-LCX toward Cu2+ ions was determined to be 1 : 1 by the UV-Vis absorption spectrum, and the coordination configuration was calculated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Moreover, probe NA-LCX was applied successfully for the recognition of Cu2+ ions and H2S in living cells.

1,2,4,5-Benzenetetracarboxylic acid (H4Btec) is an ideal candidate for the synthesis of new coordination polymers compounds because of its four carboxyl groups bridging moieties with antimony ions having distorted coordination configuration. This work reports a new compound of coordination polymer, namely, [Sb2(C4H4O6)2(Btec)(H2O)]n, [(C4H4O6)2 = tartrate and Btec4− = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic anion] has been synthesized under reflux. The physical and chemical properties of coordination polymers; Sb2(C4H4O6)2(Btec)(H2O) was affirmed by scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analyses and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

XANES- and EXAFS-based analysis of the Ayurvedic Hg-based nano-drugRasasindurahas been performed to seek evidence of its non-toxicity.Rasasindurais determined to be composed of single-phase α-HgS nanoparticles (size ∼24 nm), free of Hg0or organic molecules; its structure is determined to be robust (<3% defects). The non-existence of Hg0implies the absence of Hg-based toxicity and establishes that chemical form, rather than content of heavy metals, is the correct parameter for evaluating the toxicity in these drugs. The stable α-HgS form (strong Hg—S covalent bond and robust particle character) ensures the integrity of the drug during delivery and prevention of its reduction to Hg0within the human body. Further, these comparative studies establish that structural parameters (size dispersion, coordination configuration) are better controlled inRasasindura. This places the Ayurvedic synthesis method on par with contemporary techniques of nanoparticle synthesis.
