Seni budaya Indonesia yang beragam dalam perkembangannya membutuhkan penguatan, pengembangan, dan inovasi agar tetap diterima dan berkembang kepada generasi penerus bangsa. Pelestarian budaya diupayakan melalui berbagai kegiatan, salah satunya adalah penyuluhan seni karena dalam penyuluhan terdapat proses yang melibatkan langsung antara pemangku kepentingan, akademisi, dan masyarakat secara langsung. Karawitan menjadi salah satu kesenian yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam tradisi yang khas dan menarik. Tujuan dari penyuluhan seni di bidang karawitan dengan objek kelompok seni Ngudi Laras melalui kaderisasi pelatih, peningkatan kemampuan pelatih, pendampingan dan pelatihan kerawitan, serta publikasi kegiatan sanggar. Metode penyuluhan seni ini menggunakan metode penyuluhan langsung (direct communications), yang digunakan pada waktu berhadapan muka ke muka dengan sasarannya dan berdialog dengan pelatih dan anggotanya. Metode yang langsung ini dianggap lebih efektif, meyakinkan, dan mengakrabkan hubungan antara penyuluh dan sasaran. Penyuluhan seni dengan tajuk “Kaderisasi dan Peningkatan Kemampuan Pelatih Karawitan di Kelompok Seni Ngudi Laras, Watu Lumbung, Kadiluwih, Salam, Magelang” memberikan penerangan atau informasi agar hal-hal yang tadinya belum diketahui ataupun dipecahkan kaitannya dengan problematika di dalamnya agar segera menemukan jalan keluar yang terbaik sehingga kesinambungan aktivitas sanggar tersebut bisa berjalan secara terus-menerus dan mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan.

Conceptual and Associative Meanings of the Word Turang in Karo Songs

The aim of this article is to explain the conceptual and associative meanings of the word turang as it is used in the Karo songs, entitled “Turang” and “Sia Sia Terang Bulan”. Turang is the word which is usually associated with the sister or brother, or between a male and female in one family or the same clan. Direct communications between a male and female of the same clan are not allowed or taboo. In another context, they can communicate with each other which is interpreted as the relationship among the lovers. This study was conducted by analyzing the lyrics of the songs in Karo’s language using a descriptive research method. Both conceptual and associative meanings were found in the songs; most of the meanings were associative, which is a part of pragmatic meanings. Endovascular Embolization of a Previously Treated Renal Arteriovenous Malformation Presenting With Gross Hematuria

Renal arteriovenous shunts are direct communications between the supplying artery and draining vein without the presence of an intervening capillary bed. They can be traumatic or nontraumatic. Coils can be used for embolization of feeding arteries; however, they do not treat the nidus directly. We report a case in which proximal coil placement in feeding arteries led to recanalization of the renal AV shunt through collaterals, resulting in recurrent hematuria. The case was subsequently managed by embolizing the nidus by N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate glue.

Dissecting the nanoscale lipid profile of caveolae

Caveolae are specialized domains of the vertebrate cell surface with a well-defined morphology and crucial roles in cell migration and mechanoprotection. Unique compositions of proteins and lipids determine membrane architectures. The precise caveolar lipid profile and the roles of the major caveolar structural proteins, caveolins and cavins, in selectively sorting lipids have not been defined. Here we used quantitative nanoscale lipid mapping together with molecular dynamic simulations to define the caveolar lipid profile. We show that caveolin1 (CAV1) and cavin1 individually sort distinct plasma membrane lipids. Intact caveolar structures composed of both CAV1 and cavin1 further generate a unique lipid nano-environment. The caveolar lipid sorting capability includes selectivities for lipid headgroups and acyl chains. Because lipid headgroup metabolism and acyl chain remodelling are tightly regulated, this selective lipid sorting may allow caveolae to act as transit hubs to direct communications among lipid metabolism, vesicular trafficking and signalling.

This report describes an unusual manifestation of an acquired peripheral arteriovenous fistula with a high shunt volume of 410 ml/min following a fracture of the 5th finger.

Which appeals (ethos, pathos, logos) are the most important for Airbnb users to booking?

PurposeThis paper aims to explain a guest’s purchase decision in Airbnb from the perspective of Aristotle’s appeals. In host-created information, the authors investigate which information appeals are significantly considered by guests.Design/methodology/approachIt is hypothesized that a guest’s purchase would be affected by the host-created information’s ethos, pathos and logos.FindingsFor the ethos, the super host badge and host review have positive impacts on the purchase; for the pathos, the positive impact of the use of social words is significant. For the logos, the authors have determined that although the price, place picture and star-rating have positive impacts on the likelihood of a purchase, the occupancy has a negative impact on it.Research limitations/implicationsThe dependent variable, the number of place reviews, cannot represent the exact number of purchases. Other possible influential factors, such as direct communications between hosts and guests, are not examined.Practical implicationsThe findings suggest guidelines for Airbnb and its host users. Specifically, the management of normal host users is revealed as a necessary process for Airbnb’s development. For host users, several guidelines on how to attract more guests effectively are provided.Originality/valueIn contrast to other studies on Airbnb, various pieces of information are considered from holistic perspectives, and each piece’s impact on the sharing behavior is understood by means of a unique theoretical model that is based on Aristotle’s appeals.

Intergenerational communication regarding Indian Residential Schools: Implications for cultural identity, perceived discrimination, and depressive symptoms

Two studies assessed the nature of parental communication about the trauma of Indian Residential Schools (IRSs) in relation to the psychological distress of their adult offspring, and whether the link between parental communication and distress was mediated by offsprings’ greater awareness of collective discrimination or sense of pride in cultural identity. In Study 1, an online survey of Indigenous participants from across Canada ( N = 498) demonstrated a curvilinear relation between the extent to which parents talked about their negative IRS experiences and the severity of depressive symptoms among offspring, among whom symptoms were particularly pronounced with more frequent communication. This relation was mediated by greater perceived discrimination. A similar, but inverse, association was found when parental communications conveyed positive construals of their IRS experiences. Study 2 ( N = 134) further demonstrated an association between direct communications from IRS survivors and offspring wellbeing in that, either the absence of, or especially frequent communications were related to more severe depressive symptoms among offspring. However, hearing about parental IRS experiences from someone other than the parent was not related to offsprings’ depressive symptoms. Qualitative analyses indicated that direct communications from parents tended to provide excessive detail, whereas parental silence was associated with speculation and feelings of isolation or resentment among offspring of IRS survivors. Taken together, the results suggest that either insufficient or excessive parental communication about trauma might undermine offspring wellbeing, whereas moderate levels of communication that provide positive meaning and promote cultural pride or diminish perceptions of personal discrimination could be beneficial.
