Recently, immune response modulation at the epigenetic level is illustrated in studies, but the possible function of RNA 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modification in cell infiltration within the tumor microenvironment (TME) is still unclear. Three different m5C modification patterns were identified, and high differentiation degree was observed in the cell infiltration features within TME under the above three identified patterns. A low m5C-score, which was reflected in the activated immunity, predicted the relatively favorable prognostic outcome. A small amount of effective immune infiltration was seen in the high m5C-score subtype, indicating the dismal patient survival. Our study constructed a diagnostic model using the 10 signature genes highly related to the m5C-score, discovered that the model exhibited high diagnostic accuracy for PTC, and screened out five potential drugs for PTC based on this m5C-score model. m5C modification exerts an important part in forming the TME complexity and diversity. It is valuable to evaluate the m5C modification patterns in single tumors, so as to enhance our understanding towards the infiltration characterization in TME.

To date, the only treatment for celiac disease (CD) consists of a strict lifelong gluten-free diet (GFD), which has numerous limitations in patients with CD. For this reason, dietary transgressions are frequent, implying intestinal damage and possible long-term complications. There is an unquestionable need for non-dietary alternatives to avoid damage by involuntary contamination or voluntary dietary transgressions. In recent years, different therapies and treatments for CD have been developed and studied based on the degradation of gluten in the intestinal lumen, regulation of the immune response, modulation of intestinal permeability, and induction of immunological tolerance. In this review, therapeutic lines for CD are evaluated with special emphasis on phase III and II clinical trials, some of which have promising results.

Aim: The aim of the article was to discuss the role of balanced supplementation in diet of age-related macular degeneration patients. Methods: This review was carried out using comprehensive and systematic literature reports on the role of supplementation of vitamin D, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, zinc, lutein, zeaxanthin, omega-3 acid and folic acid in the prevention of AMD. Results: Vitamins, minerals and carotenoids are essential for the proper retinal function over an inflammation and immune response modulation. Conclusions: Vitamins, minerals and carotenoids discussed in the article have anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties in the management of AMD progression. Accordingly, it is relevant to assure the appropriate level of these nutrients in a diet of AMD patients.

Most cells can release extracellular vesicles (EVs), membrane vesicles containing various proteins, nucleic acids, enzymes, and signaling molecules. The exchange of EVs between cells facilitates intercellular communication, amplification of cellular responses, immune response modulation, and perhaps alterations in viral pathogenicity. EVs serve a dual role in inhibiting or enhancing viral infection and pathogenesis. This review examines the current literature on EVs to explore the complex role of EVs in the enhancement, inhibition, and potential use as a nanotherapeutic against clinically relevant viruses, focusing on neurotropic viruses: Zika virus (ZIKV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Overall, this review’s scope will elaborate on EV-based mechanisms, which impact viral pathogenicity, facilitate viral spread, and modulate antiviral immune responses.
