We studied growth of potato plantlets of two cultivars under different constant polychromatic light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and dynamic lighting with the spectrum modifications during growth. Light sources constructed by us were sunbox SB, red-green-blue RGB, and full spectrum FS, red-blue. White luminescent lamps were used as control light. Dynamic lighting was achieved by transferring groups of plantlets from one box to another. Red/green/blue portions in the light sources were (in percents): 39R/39G/22B for SB, 63R/21G/16B for RGB, 74R/8G/18B for FS, and 22R/49G/29B for control. PPFD was set at 45 μmol/m2 s. Morphometric measurements were made 14 and 28 days after planting. Plantlets developed differently from initial stages. Cultivar 'Red Scarlett' appeared to be more susceptible to different lighting than 'Innovator'. Light variations RGB and RGB-SB were the most favorable for plantlet development. This is the first report on the dynamic lighting application for growing potato plantlets.

The laboratory’s experiment conducted at IPAS in 2017. The goal of this study was to evaluate drought stress tolerance of released potato varieties using PEG-6000 in-vitro condition. Middle maturing variety Gala, early maturing Solist and Quarta were used experiment. The objectives were to determine how osmosis pressure affected potato plantlet height, root length, total weight of biomass, and stem diameter using their index comparing to normal condition. The screening experiment used three different treatments. The water stress treatments 0 MPa (control), -0.05 MPa and -0,15 MPa were created by PEG-6000. 6 weeks’ year’s old plantlets were measured by 5 features. The variety Gala showed significant high index by 5 performances among the stressed condition compared to Quarta and Solist. The variety Quarta also showed high performance compared Solist. As a result of this study found out that cultivar Gala more tolerant to drought than Quarta and Solist.

Ten sweet potato lines/varieties were studied for growth response under NaCl salt stress condition. The rooting ability, in terms of root number, root length and root volume was studied. Growth in terms of root and shoot dry weight was also studied. A variation was recorded among the eight varieties and two lines in different doses of NaCl for growth responses in terms of rooting ability. The genotypes BARI SP-9, showed rooting ability up to 20 dS-m among the 10 genotypes. The genotypes BARI SP-2, BARI SP-3, BARI SP-7, BARI SP-9 and line SP-613 showed increase in root number upto 6 dS-m as compared to control. Accumulation of Na+ increased with a concomitant decrease in K+. Sweet potato plantlet transport less amount of Na+ and more amount of K+ to the shoot. Genotypes BARI SP-7 and BARI SP-9 showed better performance upto15dS-m.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 40(2): 249-257 June 2015
