Recently, there has been an increase in interest in agricultural waste in scientific, technological, environmental, economic, and social contexts. The processing of rice husk ash/rice straw ash into biocompatible products—also known as biomaterials—used in biomedical implants is a technique that can enhance the value of agricultural waste. This method has effectively converted unprocessed agricultural waste into high-value products. Rice husk and straw are considered to be unwanted agricultural waste and are largely discarded because they pollute the environment. Because of the related components present in bone and teeth, this waste can produce wollastonite. Wollastonite is an excellent material for bone healing and implants, as well as tissue regeneration. The use of rice husk ash or rice straw ash in wollastonite production reduces the impact of agricultural waste on pollution and prompts the ensuing conversion of waste into a highly beneficial invention. The use of this agricultural waste in the fabrication of wollastonite using rice husk ash or rice straw ash was investigated in this paper. Wollastonite made from rice husk ash and rice straw ash has a fair chance of lowering the cost of bone and tooth repair and replacement, while having no environmental effects.

Midgut volvulus is a condition peculiar to neonates having acute abdomen. The condition is anticipated in any neonate having bilious vomitus and inability to pass stools. This being a surgical emergency does not sanction any time-consuming radiological procedures, thus, history and the clinical picture are sufficient to warrant surgical exploration. A sick neonate in the 2nd week of life presented with all signs and symptoms of midgut volvulus for which he was explored. Exploration gave the outlook of a necrotic midgut along its entire length. No haste was made in resection as it had a fatal prognosis for survival, instead, watchful waiting opted after necessary measures were taken to allow for the resumption of perfusion. Not only the baby survived to undergo a relook laparotomy showing marked improvement but also showed improvement in lab values and started passing stool and tolerating orally after a wait of three weeks post 1st laparotomy. Midgut volvulus leading to seemingly necrotic intestine should be given due consideration by relook surgery. The alternative would be total resection followed by short bowel syndrome, need for an intestinal transplant while being on TPN. This approach gives an immense advantage by giving the gut a fair chance to restore its perfusion by gut rest after de-twisting.

AbstractAtopic dermatitis (AD) is a common dermatological disorder in children, which is chronic and of a relapsing nature. It is very common in children, with a fair chance of lifetime prevalence of the disease. The following case is of a child 5 months of age who was suffering from AD since 2 months of age. After the first prescription, complaints were much improved. Following that, the child was treated with complex homoeopathic medicines by another physician, which aggravated the condition. Following stoppage of medicines due to an aggravation, a second remedy was thereafter prescribed that provided long-term relief to the patient.

Data was collected through one-on-one and telephone semi-structured interviews between March 2018 and March 2019 involving 218 editors and reporters drawn from 15 Kenyan print and online newspapers. The study used simple random sampling where each population member had a fair chance of being considered for the research. Data gathered was organised methodically guided by the research objectives, transcribed and subsequently cleaned and labelled before a suitable framework was identified. It was then coded, themes identified and patterns of the data noticed building to a sequence of events.

Most orphanages in Malaysia are run by means of charitable donations. However, the donations and contributions collected are usually not regular or one-off. This has led to orphanages being in a run-down state and ill-equipped. The care given to orphans is important as part and parcel of their human rights to be treated and given a fair chance of living with the rest of the human race. As such, this paper aims to investigate the role of social entrepreneurship in providing care for orphans. Particularly, the paper will focus on an orphanage – “Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Islam Segamat” (PKAYIS) which is located in the state of Johor. PKAYIS has provided shelter for 68 orphans and through charitable donations has been running successfully since 1983. The orphanage has been able to successfully bring up orphans who have succeeded academically and found successful careers in life. Based on the theoretical framework on social entrepreneurship and orphans, observation methods and interviews were carried out to supply relevant information and data for the study. This paper will provide some insights on how social entrepreneurship affects the society and would be beneficial for policy makers interested in adopting social entrepreneurship as a mean of care for orphans.
