the work contains substantiation of a mutual link between academic virtue and academic leadership. The reasons for academic virtue violation by applicants for higher education have been analyzed, and the main areas of working with them have been determined. the content of imposed on a person requirement of the modern era and the need for a new worldview are revealed. The content of the concepts “evolution” and “spirituality” is considered. The role of spirituality in human evolution and the formation of leaders’ worldview is shown. It was emphasized that leader’s worldview should be based on his broad humanitarian training, a new philosophy. the meaning and tasks of the professional activity of a modern engineer are revealed. The content and nature of its preparation in the system of higher education are substantiated. The need for a clear focus of this training on identifying potential leaders among students and the subsequent purposeful development of their leadership potential is shown. It is proposed to focus the rest of other students on their training as representatives of the national humanitarian and technical elite. The characteristic features of the training of the elite and leaders in the conditions of institutions of higher engineering education are analyzed. The experience of such training, accumulated at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, is given. The importance of forming students’ innovative thinking and development of their creative abilities as a condition for the implementation of the paradigm of education 4.0 and staffing industry 4.0 is emphasized.

the problem of the formation of student youth’s social activity in the space of a higher education institution is considered. the article considered the problem of manifestation of polycommunicative empathy in students with strong leadership qualities. The role of empathy in the formation of students’ leadership style was analyzed. The study found that empathy is one of the most important features in the personality structure of a modern student leader, and its formation should be given special attention in higher education institutions. An empirical study of leadership skills revealed that about 29% of students have a high level of leadership skills. The analysis of gender peculiarities of the manifestation of polycommunicative empathy of students-leaders allowed to determine that empathy is better developed in girls than in boys. The article presents promising areas of development of the topic.
