Wool fiber was firstly pretreated by nano-SiO2/Ag antibacterial agent, and then dyed with an acid dyes at low temperature by ultrasonic dyeing. Many factors had an important influence on the dye ability and the antibacterial behavior during the dyeing process of antibacterial wool fiber. The experimental results indicate that the dye-takeup rates of antibacterial wool fiber were enhanced with the increase of the concentration of nano-SiO2/Ag, the dyeing temperature, the dyeing time and the ultrasonic frequency (less than 60Hz). However, the antibacterial ratios of wool fiber were declined in the impact of these factors other than the concentration of antibacterial agent.

To improve dyeing properties of ramie fabrics, sodium hydroxide/urea (NaOH/urea) was used as curcumin solvent and ramie-fiber swelling solvent. Ramie fabrics were dyed with curcumin in NaOH/urea aqueous solution at low temperature without using any mordants. The color depth (K/S) value, washing fastness, ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry were measured to investigate dyeing properties of the ramie with curcumin in NaOH/urea solution at low temperature. Meanwhile, X-ray diffraction and breaking strength were used to determine the structure of the ramie in NaOH/urea solution. Curcumin could be dissolved completely in NaOH/urea solution, and crystallinity of ramie fiber was decreased a little. The K/S value of dyed ramie fabrics in NaOH/urea solution increased around 4-fold compared to dyed ramie fabrics in water. The dyed ramie fabrics in NaOH/urea solution displayed good washing fastness. In addition, dyed ramie fabrics in NaOH/urea solution revealed anti-ultraviolet properties.

In this paper, the polyester fiber surfaces were modified with the combined method of causticization and low-temperature plasma. The effect of Alkali pre-treatment on plasma treatment was studied to investigate the influence of the combined treatment on the properties of the polyester fibers. Through changing the process parameters, such as the temperature of causticization and the plasma treatment duration, the changes of weight loss, mechanical properties, wetting properties and dyeing properties of the polyester fibers after the causticization-plasma treatment were analyzed. In addition, the change of the surface morphology and chemical composition of the polyester fibers after the treatment was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis respectively. The results showed that the wetting and dyeing properties of the polyester fibers were improved in a higher degree after causticization-plasma treatment than the causticization and plasma treatment independently. Meanwhile, the wetting and dyeing properties were improved more significantly with the increase of the causticization temperature in the causticization-plasma treatment. It was concluded that the pretreatment of the causticization before the low temperature plasma treatment can accelerate the etching and oxidization towards the polyester surface during the plasma treatment.

Abstract The aim of this research was to evaluate the influence of dyeing process on the quality of surface waters contaminated with heavy metals and organic compounds, resulted after the wool dyeing process. In order to mark out this aspects an environment friendly method was proposed which involves dyeing wool fiber with new complex combinations derived from a new acid dyes which were complexed, using copper, iron, nickel and zinc salts at 2:1 combination ratio. In order to point out the environmental point of view of wastewaters an experimental protocol was tested by dyeing wool fiber at different pH. Evaluation of complexed combinations impact on the environment involve the following indicators: consumption degree of dyeing solution from the process bath, treatment degree related to the organic content expressed by COD indicator and treatment degree related to the heavy metal concentration respectively.
