AbstractIn this paper,a numerical simulation of thermal process in the SMT laser microsoldering joint has been developed, in which, the influence on thermal process of the factors such as the thermal conductivity variation of solder with temperature, light reflection coefficient of the lead wire surface, and heat exchange on the surface of SMT materials all have been considered. In order to carry this numerical calculation practice and prove it's results, the reflexive characteristic of light wave to the SMT materials has been gauged, and the dynamic temperature process of laser microjoint has been measured by a new experimental method which was invented by the authors. The results of numerical simulation have been borne out by the tests, and the influences of heating parameters on thermal process has been analysed in this paper. The conclusions will be advantageous to the further study of the microjoint quality control in the SMT laser microsoldering.

A study of the onset of transient natural convection from a suddenly heated, horizontal cylinder of finite diameter is presented. The termination of the initial conductive and “locally” conuectiue heat transfer regime which precedes the onset of global natural convection is treated as a thermal stability phenomenon. An analysis is presented wherein the effects of finite cylinder diameter, cylinder heat capacity, and cylinder thermal conductivity are included in calculations of the convective delay time. A simple experimental apparatus is described and data presented. The thermal stability analysis is confirmed experimentally and data is presented which indicates localized natural convection prior to global motion.

The hygrothermal properties related to rockwool insulation material structure with different additives are presented using rockwool insulation products obtained from row material of southern Serbia (Vranje region) in the wide range of reference temperatures (10?C to 70?C). The hygrothermal properties of basic sample (without additives) are compared to two samples with different additives for two sets of rockwool insulation samples namely: light-soft-panels (LSP) with density of 50 kg/m3, and middle-weight-panels (MWP) with density of 80 kg/m3. It is shown that there is significant (approximately 10%) improvement of thermal conductivity for additives based on zeolite. Also, correlation of thermal conductivity and sorption properties of selected samples are presented.

An evolution equation is derived that describes the nonlinear development of the interface between two viscoelastic fluids flowing, under the action of imposed pressure gradient and gravity, in a vertical channel. The channel walls are kept at different temperatures, resulting in heat transfer across the layers. The equation, based on the lubrication approximation, models the effects of stratifications in density, viscosity, elasticity, shear thinning, and thermal conductivity. It also describes the capillary and thermocapillary effects, as well as the sensitivity of viscosities to temperature. Linear-stability analysis is performed based on the evolution equation to understand the competing effects of viscous, elastic, and Marangoni instabilities. Particular attention is paid to the active control of the interfacial instabilities through the thermocapillarity.

In this study, the effective thermal conductivity (ETC) of sintered loop heat pipe wicks, with pure nickel powders, pure copper powders, Ni-10wt%Cu powders and Ni-20wt%Cu powders were experimentally investigated. The ETC of sintered Ni-Cu wicks is found less than those of sintered pure nickel wick and sintered pure copper wicks. In the same porosity level, addition of copper into nickel will reduce ETC of the sintered Ni-Cu wicks. The sintered Ni-20wt%Cu wick presents the lowest ETC among the tested wick samples. Compared to experimental results, Alexander model can provide a reasonable prediction in some wick samples.
