Due to rapid, continuous and radical changes, today, the environment becomes more and more unpredictable and unclear. Thus, in order to be successful and continue to exist organisations are to live with the change, predict, benefit from and manage it. Organisational change could be defined as the process or existing organisational structure and operations as well as the effort to change the behaviours of the most members in the organisation to a great extent. It could also be said that change related issues are mostly about people and the success of the change depends on the attitudes and behaviours of the people and the Human Resources strategies, policies and operations developed considering the need of the change. The HR issues such as planning, staffing, performance evaluation, training and development, price and appraisal, motivation, culture, communication, involvement and commitment are all related to the areas in which change is needed. It could be said that HR is a strategic element in change and should be proactive. This chapter is on the role of HR in change. Change itself, the human characteristics of change, the importance and the role of HR in change, the literature review of some HR models used in change and what HR should do in change will be summarised.

Public Private Partnerships (PPP) is widely applied in worldwide infrastructure development. The performance of the PPP project company should be under monitoring of the public sector to ensure that the reasonable interests of the public users are not sacrificed. In this regard, a key issue is the qualitative and quantitative measurement of the services provided by the project company. This paper introduces the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) based excellence model, which has been popularly used in enterprise management, into the PPP projects. Firstly, a comprehensive literature review is conducted, that, an EFQM Model is introduced and its advantages for PPP projects are analyzed. Then, the performance evaluation criteria are established and the performance indicators are identified for PPP projects based on literature review. Finally, a performance evaluation model for PPP projects in general is formulated based on the EFQM model.

Performance evaluation is part of the chain of financial transparency which involves the production, verification, analysis, synthesis, dissemination and use of information on the financial performance of a micro-finance institution (MFI). In this study, the authors will try to show the convergence or divergence between social performance and the financial performance by answering the following question: are there to arbitration / compatibility between the two types of performance. To answer this question, this study will be organized in such manner the first section outlines a brief literature review of microfinance in terms of both welfarist approaches (social) and institutionalists. The second section describes the characteristics of the sample of 141 MFIs in 21 countries in the MENA region and Africa based on the year of 2005 and 2010. By defining the variables that identify each type of performance with a new index created for social performance called “Depth of Outreach” (noted DEPTH). The financial performance is described by financial indicators namely profitability, portfolio quality and productivity. The authors finish this study by a third section which presents the main results of a factor analysis applied to the sample in order to study the nature of relationship between the two types of performance.

The processes of Strategic Planning (SP), Performance Evaluation (PE) and Process Management (PM) for Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are considered more than ever, urgent and necessary, acting as the factors of motivation, awareness and exploratory data collection. The objective of this paper is to identify positive and negative aspects involved in realization of SP, PE and PM in HEI, through a literature review. The study was exploratory and descriptive, accomplished through a bibliographic review in online data bases. It was possible to identify that HEI are considered complex systems which results in implications on execution of the SP, PE and PM. Apart from that, it was identified barriers in the literature, being the main ones: decentralization, autonomy of departments, heterogeneity in the operation of departments, data stored in places that cannot be accessed by everybody, bureaucracy, resistance to change, dissociation between planning and management, lack of participation of university community in the process of planning. It was also found ways to overcome these barriers being the main ones: commitment of high management, clear strategy, wide communication and participation of all people involved.

Abstract Precooling is of significant importance for postharvest fruits and vegetables to control the quality degradation and prolong the shelf-life. Current precooling methods include room cooling, forced-air cooling, hydrocooling, vacuum cooling, contact or package icing, and cryogenic cooling, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages. The first two methods with the cooling medium of air are extensively used because of the wide applicable range of fruits and vegetables. Numerous studies have been devoted to cope with the drawbacks of these two air-based precooling methods with various evaluation criteria and optimization methods. A systematic literature review on these studies is firstly conducted with respect to experimental and numerical investigations respectively for the two methods. The main contributions from the previous studies are also summarized respectively with the research objectives and performance metrics. The literature review indicates that the current performance evaluation is limited to apparent parameters and the optimal design is only proposed based on the performance evaluation and comparison. Furthermore, with inspiration from the research in other domains, a scheme of advanced evaluation and optimization for air-based precooling methods is proposed with thermodynamic evaluation metrics and constructal optimization methods from the interdisciplinary perspective.

PurposeIn this study, financial performance evaluation model is developed for banks aims to measure and compare the performances of banks based on their financial ratios.Design/methodology/approachRegression-AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process)-VIKOR (Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) integrated methodology is used. First, a literature review is done to find various bank performance measurement models with their financial metrics being compared. Then, pair-wise comparison matrices are used to find the relative weights of criteria (financial ratios) and finally VIKOR method is used to rank the banks.FindingsIt is believed that an AHP-based VIKOR framework helps to take up the explicit account of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methodologies in decision making and for selecting the best bank in the Turkish economy.Research limitations/implicationsIn this paper, only selected financial ratios are used and analyzed for the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method.Originality/valueThe systematic solution procedure of performance evaluating the banks helps the decision-makers to carry out performance evaluation studies for improving economic and managerial performance. This comparative study and analysis of bank performance using the regression-AHP-VIKOR combined model is presented for the first time. The authors have not become aware of any such studies in their literature review. This paper is an original framework of the application of the regression-AHP-VIKOR on the various financial performance metrics.
