The purpose of this research is to enhance the extant understanding of the information technology (IT)-strategy relationship. The study aims to test the robustness of the relationships among the concepts of IT analytic capability, demand chain strategy, and firm performance besides investigating the interaction effects of product life cycle (PLC) management on the IT-strategy relationship. Based on the resource-based view (RBV) of the firm and the research paradigm of “capability-strategy-performance,” 300 Chinese fashion firms were surveyed to collect data by Demand Chain Research Institute of Shanghai University. In order to test the hypothetical relationship in the conceptual model, valid questionnaires from 185 firms were collected in this study, and the effective rate reached 61.7%. Findings suggest that IT analytic capability associates positively with demand chain strategy, and PLC plays a moderation role between IT analytic capability and demand chain strategy. The findings further support the link between demand chain strategy and better firm performance. This study contributes to existing information systems and operation management literature by the above effects in the retail context. Overall, these results reflect recent business and transformation changes from supply chain strategy to demand chain strategy for the Chinese fashion industry.

Research question: This study assessed the combined moderating effect of organizational structure and environmental turbulence on entry mode strategy - performance link focusing on baby care industry in Lagos State, Nigeria. Motivation: The manufacturers of baby care products in Nigeria have struggled to understand the complexities of entry mode strategy and how to use firm-specific capabilities to contain the threats from new entrants given the idiosyncrasies of the business environment in Nigeria. Also, considering the fast changing business environment and the need for firms to align internal organisational structure to manage the external environmental challenges, this study via the supposition of Hage (1965) axiomatic theory of organisations examined the joint moderating effect of organisational structure and environmental turbulence on entry mode strategy - performance linkage focusing on the baby care industry in Lagos State, Nigeria. Idea: Empirical submissions on the combined moderating effect of organizational structure and environmental turbulence on the interactions of entry mode strategy and organizational performance are sparse. Hence, this study addressed this gap in literature. Data: The survey research design and a sample of 518 employees engaged in FMCG manufacturers in Lagos State, Nigeria were adopted for this study. Tools: A validated structured questionnaire was the instrument of data collection for this study and the hierarchical regression analysis was adopted to test the hypotheses formulated. Findings: The results showed that the interaction between entry mode strategy and firm performance was positive and significant. Further analysis revealed that the interaction term of organizational structure and environmental turbulence accounted for the rise in firm performance to suggest that organizational structure and environmental turbulence are joint significant moderators. This suggests that entry mode strategy appropriateness is key to firm performance and that the fit between organisational structure and the macro-environment is a precondition to higher performance. Contribution: This study adds to recent empirical literature on the link between entry mode strategy, organizational structure, environmental turbulence, and firm performance within emerging economy context, and it provides additional support for the assumptions of the eclectic theory and Hage’s axiomatic theory of organization.

Management control systems-strategy, performance measures, and incentives-play a vitally important role in the success or failure of organizations. As such, management control systems represent one of the foundational topics in managerial accounting. However, as the case illustrates, developing, implementing, and continuously enhancing a management control system to be effective often proves very challenging. Therefore, the case develops students' ability to critically assess the interrelationships between these three management control system elements. In particular, students are immersed into two dysfunctional management control systems-one at W. T. Grant in the 1970s and the other at Wells Fargo in the 2010s-to highlight the complexities, challenges, and power of such systems to elicit both positive and negative behavioral and decision impacts on employees, customers, regulators and, ultimately, shareholders. In so doing, the case also increases students' interest in studying managerial accounting, as well as their realization of its importance to an organization's success or failure.

This paper introduces a modified multilevel inverter topology with asymmetrical dc sources combination. The significant features of the proposed circuit are the reduced number of switches and low total standing voltage (TSV). Proposed topology utilizes ten switches to produce 13 level output with per unit TSVp.u of 5.33. An additional feature of the proposed topology is the inherent negative level generation as there is no requirement of an H-bridge for the polarity reversals. Nearest level control (NLC) technique is used as the modulation strategy. Performance of the proposed topology is validated through extensive analysis using Simulink and PLECS software. Detailed circuit analysis and its power loss, as well as efficiency studies, have been carried out under constant and dynamic load conditions. Results obtained shows that the proposed topology is working well, producing an output of 13-level with total harmonic distortion of 6.36% and inverter efficiency of 98.8%. The topology is extended to n-level structure, and its generalized expressions for different parameters were formulated. The comparison of the generalized structure with other existing topology is carried out, and it is found that the proposed topology outperform other topologies on many parameters.
