High indoor air quality is crucial for the health of human beings. The purpose of this work is to analyze the synergistic effect of particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration on occupant satisfaction and work productivity. This study carried out a real-scale experiments in a meeting room with exposures of up to one hour. Indoor environment parameters, including air temperature, relative humidity, illuminance, and noise level, were controlled at a reasonable level. Twenty-nine young participants were participated in the experiments. Four mental tasks were conducted to quantitatively evaluate the work productivity of occupants and a questionnaire was used to access participants’ satisfaction. The Spearman correlation analysis and two-way analysis of variance were applied. It was found that the overall performance declined by 1% for every 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 concentration. Moreover, for every 10% increase in dissatisfaction with air quality, productivity performance decreased by 1.1% or more. It should be noted that a high CO2 concentration (800 ppm) has a stronger negative effect on occupant satisfaction towards air quality than PM2.5 concentration in a non-ventilated room. In order to obtain optimal occupant satisfaction and work productivity, low concentrations of PM2.5 (<50 μg/m3) and CO2 (<700 ppm) are recommended.

The Conversazione on Saturday 23 July, honoured by the presence of H.R.H. The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was the principal occasion during the Celebrations when the Society was able to entertain its guests within Burlington House. Some 2000 persons attended and in addition to the scientific exhibits they were able to view the Academy’s i960 Summer Exhibition of oil paintings, water colours, pastels, tempera and miniatures; drawings, engravings, etchings; sculpture; architectural drawings and models in the main galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts. In the Royal Society’s own rooms there were displayed some three hundred congratulatory addresses as well as the several gifts received by the Society from Academies, Universities and Learned Institutions from all over the world on the occasion of the Tercentenary Celebrations (see pp. 103-113). These were arranged around the walls and on tables in the Library making a very impressive display. The Society’s own Treasures, the Mace, the Charter Book, the manuscript of the Principia and Newton’s telescope were also on view and in addition there was a small exhibit of books and pamphlets illustrating attacks made on the Society during its history. Banyuwangi is an area rich in various cultures and customs, this is because Banyuwangi district is inhabited by various ethnic groups. The majority of the sub-districts of Banyuwangi are osing tribe who live in the village of fern and urban village of rejo. Joglo building as one of the traditional Javanese buildings in it contained philosophy that suits the life of the people. The arrangement of the room in Joglo is generally divided into three parts, namely the meeting room called pendopo, the living room or the space used to hold the show called pringgitan, and the back room called dalem or omah jero as the family room. For the people of Banyuwangi especially those who still preserve the joglo house just like the osing tribe have begun to experience the shifting of its role and function where in this case joglo house serve as additional need for home decoration, private residence of the citizen, until used as permanent building of cafe and restaurant.
