In the current paper, the authors posit that trait self–esteem moderates the relationship between social rejection and decrements in self–control, propose an information–processing account of trait self–esteem's moderating influence and discuss three tests of this theory. The authors measured trait self–esteem, experimentally manipulated social rejection and assessed subsequent self–control in Studies 1 and 2. Additionally, Study 3 framed a self–control task as diagnostic of social skills to examine motivational influences. Together, the results reveal that rejection impairs self–control, but only among low self–esteem individuals. Moreover, this decrement in self–control only emerged when the task had no social implications—suggesting that low self–esteem individuals exert effort on tasks of social value and are otherwise preoccupied with belonging needs when completing nonsocial tasks. AbstractThe aim of this research is to examine the relationship between social intelligence and loneliness of academics in the workplace. This study involves 326 (149 female/177 male) academics employed in various universities in Turkey and North Cyprus. The age average of participants is 39.09 years. In this study, the Loneliness at Work Scale (LAWS) and Tromso Social Intelligence Scale (TSIS) have been utilized. The data were analyzed using multiple regression and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient analysis techniques. The findings showed that social information processing, social skills, and social awareness, which are the sub-dimensions of social intelligence, positively explained 26% of social deprivation. Social skills and social awareness positively explained 13% of social companionship. The findings also showed that the social information processing sub-dimension did not meaningfully explain social companionship.

An Nur: 2), dan kemampuan sosial (QS. Akan tetapi tidak bisa dipunkiri bahwa konsep kecerdasan emosi memiliki beberapa kekurangan dalam kaitannya dengan perkembangan dan peningkatan nilai penghambaan kepada Allah Emotional intelligence is indeed a relative term but when examined more deeply and study the actual contents are not considered new. In the Islamic teaching itself are included in the development of Islamic education such as self-awareness (QS. Az Zumara: 15), self-control (QS. Al Hadid: 23), perseverance, enthusiasm, motivation to self (QS. Thaaha: 67-68 ), empathy toward others (QS. An Nur: 2), and social skills (QS. Al Hujurat: 13). The procession in essence is resulted to how a person will know, master and control emotions all of which are often referred to maturity attitude of person namely emotional intelligence. The linkage concept of emotional intelligence to the concept of Islamic education has been seen at the level of the relationship of self (self-control) and social relations between human (horizontal). But it cannot deny that the concept of emotional intelligence has some shortcomings on several matters relating to the development and increase the value of devotion to God Almighty. Kata kunci: kecerdasan emosi, perspektif, pendidikan Islam

Background: Self-regulating is a set of processes that controls or alters individuals’ behavior, emotion, and performance. We aimed to evaluate the relation between three components of self-regulating including integrative self-knowledge, mindfulness, self-control, and some variables of mental health and self-conscious emotions. Methods: A total of 233 Iranian university students voluntarily enrolled in the study. Seven questionnaire forms including Integrative Self-Knowledge Scale (ISKS), Attention Awareness Scale (MASS), Short Self Control Scale (SSCS), Costello & Comrey's Anxiety and Depression Scale, Rosenberg Self–Esteem Scale (RSES), Authentic Pride Scale (APS), and other as sham scale (OAS) were distributed to participants. The correlation between self-regulating variables, mental health, and self-conscious emotions were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient test. Results: We found a negative correlation between self-regulating variables, depression, and anxiety. Our data also revealed that self-esteem positively related to integrative self-knowledge, mindfulness, and self-control. Among self-conscious emotions variables, authentic pride had a positive correlation with self-regulating variables whereas feelings of shame appeared a negative relationship with them. Conclusion: Integrative self-knowledge, mindfulness, and self-control as self-regulating components correlated to mental health and self-conscious emotions.

Abstract: Acceptance and rejection in the group are related to both personality characteristics and social skills and most studies focus on children instead of college students. The objective of this study was to investigate whether acceptance and rejection would be more associated with personality tendencies, specifically socialization or social skills. We collected data from 187 college students attending the Physical Education (67%) and Psychology (32%) courses. The instruments were the sociometric test, the Factorial Scale of Socialization and the Social Skills Inventory. A moderating effect of gender in the relationship between assertiveness and acceptance and rejection to go out on college was observed. Social skills were better predictors of acceptance and social rejection in the university group.
