This research investigated the distributive characteristics of soil microorganisms at dry lake wetland on semiarid grassland. Four plots, typical steppe (DT), lake side (HB), lake bed (HD), and lake center (HX), were selected from Huitengxile located in semiarid grassland to conducted this investigation. The results showed that the number of aerobic bacteria at DT is 1.07 times that at HB, 1.14 times that at HX, and 1.45 times that at HD. The number of fungi at DT is 3.81 times that at HD, 10.65 times that at HB, and 25.75 times that at HX. There is significant difference between HX, HB and the other two plots (p<0.05). Also, there is significant difference between HD and DT. The number of Spore-forming bacteria at DT is 1.65 times that at HD, 2.15 times that at HB, and 6.35 times that at HX. There is significant difference between HD, HB and the other two plots, as well. The number of actinomycetes at HB is highest which is 2.12 times that at HD, 2.27 times that at DT, and 3.43 times that at HX. Moreover, there is a distinct feature of transverse distribution for soil microorganisms communities at dry lake wetland on semiarid grassland. Excluding actinomycetes, the number of soil microorganisms at dry lake wetland were both lower than that at typical steppe. There is a significant correlation between the total amount of soil microorganisms and microbial biomass C at dry lake wetland. These results can be used as the theoretical foundation for the restoration of degraded lake wetland, and the exploitation and utilization of wetland microbial resources.

Ghana’s investment in a modern fishing industry includes fishing vessels of various ranges and sizes, costing over £25.6 million. There have also been heavy investments in infrastructure, such as the Tema fishing harbor, boatbuilding, cold storage, and repair and maintenance facilities. These investments were made to: improve the protein content of the Ghanaian diet; stop importation of frozen fish and fishery products; develop the skills of the fishing community; develop an export trade in fish.Efficient use of these investments has been hampered by various factors. Transition from a canoe to a sophisticated fishery of refrigerated trawlers and factory ships was too rapid. It was assumed that once the fishing industry was equipped with a modern fleet it would become self-supporting within a short time. But this was not the case because realization of this goal depended on: efficiency with which the fleet was operated, better handling and care of fish, better marketing and distribution methods, search for new grounds, and constant attention to conservation of stocks.Lack of finance made operation of the fleet difficult. Spare parts were not in adequate supply and at times vessels had to stop fishing for lack of them.Lack of local personnel led to dependence on alien captains, mates, engineers, and shore-based staff. The number of alien crew was high initially, but Ghanaians have gradually taken over key positions on the vessels.Ghana is the only West African state with a fleet of deep-sea trawlers. This situation and recent unilateral extensions of fishing limits by West African states have led to a new problem which might have far-reaching effects on the operation of the fleet.But Ghana’s attempt to participate in the exploitation and utilization of West African fishery resources should encourage other African states to similar efforts.

Most of the people depending on traditional medicine to meet their primary healthcare needs. Documenting the indigenous knowledge through ethnobotanical studies is important for the conservation of biological resources as well as their sustainable utilization. It is also necessary to collect the information about the knowledge of traditional medicines before it is permanently lost. Having all these facts in mind, the present study was carried out to document the plants used as medicine by the people inhabiting around the Vettangudi Water Bird Sanctuary of Sivagangai district in Tamil Nadu, India. The field survey was conducted in two villages situated near to Vettangudi Water Bird Sanctuary. The medicinal uses of 40 angiospermic plant species belonging to 36 genera of 24 families for various diseases and ailments were recorded by this study. The people inhabiting in the study area used 45 herbal therapies prepared from 40 plants to treat 27 different illnesses. Regarding the plant parts used, leaf was the mostly used plant part (51.16%) and extract was found as mostly followed mode (42.28%) to treat a particular disease. Attention should be made on proper exploitation and utilization of these medicinally important plant species. In its several thousand years of social progress, China has put continuous effort into cultural development, which to a certain extent contributed to the exploitation and utilization of information resources. This article reviews the history and present situation of China’s information resources development (IRD), with the focus on some IRD projects launched since the mid-1990s. The specific projects that will be introduced include the China Academic Library and Information System, the China Digital Library Project, the construction of the China National Science and Technology Library, the China Online Government Project, and the construction of the National Institute for Information Resources Management. The goal of each project is described and its initial impact is discussed.
