Prediction of outcomes is an important way of distinguishing, among personality models, the best from the rest. Prominent previous models have tended to emphasize multiple internally consistent “facet” scales subordinate to a few broad domains. But such an organization of measurement may not be optimal for prediction. Here, we compare the predictive capacity and efficiency of assessments across two types of personality–structure model: conventional structures of facets as found in multiple platforms, and new high–dimensionality structures emphasizing those based on natural–language adjectives, in particular lexicon–based structures of 20, 23, and 28 dimensions. Predictions targeted 12 criterion variables related to health and psychopathology, in a sizeable American community sample. Results tended to favor personality–assessment platforms with (at least) a dozen or two well–selected variables having minimal intercorrelations, without sculpting of these to make them function as indicators of a few broad domains. Unsurprisingly, shorter scales, especially when derived from factor analyses of the personality lexicon, were shown to take a more efficient route to given levels of predictive capacity. Popular 20th–century personality–assessment models set out influential but suboptimal templates, including one that first identifies domains and then facets, which compromise the efficiency of measurement models, at least from a comparative–prediction standpoint. © 2020 European Association of Personality Psychology

Web-based courses are a popular format in the e-learning environment. Among students enrolled in Web-based courses, some students learn a lot, while others do not. There are many possible reasons for the differences in learning outcomes (e.g., student’s learning style, satisfaction, motivation, etc.). In the last few decades, students’ personality has emerged as an important factor influencing the learning outcomes in a traditional classroom environment. Among different personality models, the Big-Five model of personality has been successfully applied to help understand the relationship between personality and learning outcomes. Because Web-based courses are becoming popular, the Big-Five model is applied to find out if students’ personality traits play an important role in a Web-based course learning outcomes.

Two competing models of innovation behavior in organizations are tested. The first model is derived from the corporate entrepreneurship literature, suggesting that the extent to which the organization has a deliberate entrepreneurship strategy determine employees' involvement in innovation and change (Kanter, 1984). The competing model is derived from the intrapreneurship literature, primarily Pinchot (1985) and Pinchot and Pellman (1999), where the emphasis is on the employee's individual personality measured by items derived from Pinchot's (1985) test: "Are you an intrapreneur?" Both models are compared to a base model that contains relevant control variables. Finally, a fourth model, which combines all variables are compared to the other three. The models are tested using a sample of 634 business graduates employed in a diverse set of occupations and organizations. The results indicate that both the strategy and personality models outperform the base model. Moreover, the model that combines the personality of the individual and the strategy of the organization performs even better than the each of the two models separately.

Behaviorally descriptive adjectives and personality trait terms have been analyzed periodically by many psychological researchers and practitioners during the last half of this century. This analysis of personality-descriptive adjectives and terms has led to the development of several widely used adjective checklists for personality assessment and the postulation and the construct validation of several personality models. Foremost among the adjective checklists have been the 1948 Activity Vector Analysis (AVA), the 1950 Adjective Check List (ACL), and the more recent Personality Adjective Check List (PACL) in 1987. The first descriptions and reports of their developmental and validation research appeared in the professional refereed literature, respectively by Clarke in 1956, Gough in 1960, and Strack in 1987. The ACL contains 300 adjectives, various forms of the AVA contain 81 to 87 adjectives, and the PACL contains 153 adjectives. The dimensionality of personality models and the number of scales interpreted in the protocols from these instruments have either remained stable as in the case of AVA (4 dimensions, 6 scales) or have been quite variable over time. For example, the ACL was originally 5-dimensional with 6 scales being interpreted. Currently, the ACL yields 37 interpretable scales, and the PACL perhaps a 5-factor structure.

The meta-analytic study was aimed at determining the link between Right-wing Authoritarianism and Five-factor Personality models. The study included a total of 18 papers, with a total sample of 42,732 respondents from different populations. The analysis was conducted using method by Hunter and Schmidt. The results showed that Right-wing Authoritarianism achieves a negative correlation of low intensity with Neuroticism (r = -.03, p < .001), Extraversion (r = -.04, p < .001) and Agreeableness (r = -.06, p < .001). There is also some bias in publishing the results of the survey when it comes to these three personality traits. Conscientiousness is at a low positive correlation with Right-wing Authoritarianism (r = .13, p < .001), while the correlation of openness to experience with Right-wing Authoritarianism is close to the level of medium negative correlation (r = -.27, p < .001). It also found the moderator’s effecton the operationalization ofpersonality and population models when it comes to the relationship of authoritarianism and the trait of openness to experience, as well as the moderate effect of theoperationalization of right-wing authoritarianism on the correlation between neuroticism and right-wing authoritarianism. In various personality models, such as the Big Five, a consistent higher order general factor of personality (GFP) can be identified. One view in the literature is that the GFP reflects general social effectiveness. Most GFP studies, however, have been conducted in Western, educated, industrialized, and rich democracies (WEIRD). Therefore, to address the question of the universality of the GFP, we test whether the GFP can also be identified in a preliterate indigenous sample of Tsimane by using self-reports, spouse reports, and interviewer ratings. In the Tsimane, a viable GFP could be identified and the intercorrelations between personality traits were significantly stronger than in samples from industrial countries. The GFP correlated with the ratings of social engagement. In addition, self and spouse ratings of the GFP overlapped. Overall, the findings are in line with the notion that the GFP is a human universal and a substantive personality factor reflecting social effectiveness.
