On earlier stages of Russian economy establishment and development different institutional forms were built, which fostered social and economic development of territories, raising investment, attracting new technologies aimed at producing goods with high added value and cutting unemployment. The article discusses issues of special economic zone (SEZ), characterized as technical-introductory, and their impact on economic development of regions of their location. The efficiency of SEZ work was analyzed according to methodology approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. Statistics on key social and economic figures of regions proves the efficiency of SEZ work and their positive contribution to the territory development. A conclusion was drawn that SEZ in the near future can become key economic centers, which could integrate companies – SEZ residents by the cluster type and characterize the industry specialization of the region and at the same time could become a mighty stimulus for social and economic development of adjoining territories. Investment plans of companies – residents in the region and industry specialization of key companies and clusters on territories will start a new stage of building the efficient work aimed at complex SEZ development.

Cultural economics can be grouped under four main headings: cultural heritage, arts, media (film, radio, television, music, journalism, and publishing) and creative services (design, advertising, new media, architecture, and software). These cultural goods and services that constitute the cultural economy interact with other industries. This interaction has an impact on the development process by creating added value for the economy through the multiplier effect. The cultural industries that are also referred to as creative industries tend to have a significant economic impact, mainly in terms of providing employment and increasing exports. In contrast, tourism, textiles, jewellery, toys, and many other suppliers ensure the development of these industries by creating indirect economic impacts. In this context, firstly cultural economics and its scope will be discussed, and its relationship with economic development will be explained. Next, referring to examples of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the impact of cultural economics on the economic development of Turkey will be explored, specifically with regards to the Cappadocia region.

Research on the role and importance ofentrepreneurship in economic development is influenced bythe orientation of development policies in advancedeconomies. Considering that the orientation towardsentrepreneurial activity and development of small businessis present in developed economies, the aim of this researchis to determine the impact of entrepreneurial activity ofSMEs on the economy in the Republic of Srpska. Themethods used in the paper are: analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, comparison, benchmarking. Theresults of the research have shown that SMEs in theRepublic of Srpska generate more new jobs, achieve higherturnover and create more added value than big companies. However, big firms are more profitable and have higherproductivity, leading to the conclusion that developmentpolicies should not be rigorously limited to the developmentof only one sector, but rather to encourage their coexistence.

The aim of the paper is to identify the factors affecting economic growth of Baltic countries. Correlation analysis has been exploited to analyze the impact of both monetary and non-monetary factors on gross domestic product dynamics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The research results show that the most strong relationship in these three countries is observed between GDP dynamics and the following variables: domestic credit provided by financial sector, exports of goods and services including high-technology exports, official exchange rate, household final consumption expenditure, unemployment and real interest rate. The findings of the study indicate that inflation is related to GDP dynamics only in Latvia, foreign direct investments are associated to GDP only in Estonia. Especial role in economic development of these states belongs to export diversification. Companies diversified their product ranges switching to high added value products. Development of new branches and new markets, especially in Euro zone made sufficient impact on economic development of “Baltic Tigers”. Thus, both monetary and non-monetary factors had impact on economic growth of these states.

In the context of the “new normal” of China’s economic development, it is urgent to solve the contradiction between fishery development and environmental protection. To promote the construction of a modern fishery power, we must return to ecological priority. Based on this, the research used relevant data samples from various provinces during 2004–2017. The level of fishery economic development is measured using fishery added value and total fishery output value; the industrial pollution control investment and environmental pollution control investment represent the intensity of environmental control; the relationship between environmental governance and fishery economic development is explored, and the intermediary role of technological innovation is further analyzed. Empirical results show that environmental governance has a significant positive impact on fishery economic development, and this influence shows both spatial and temporal heterogeneity, regionally showing the distribution characteristic of “in the eastern region > in the central region > in the western region”, and the time series show the “strengthened influence − weakened influence” i.e., “inverted U” variations. In addition, technological innovation plays a certain intermediary role in the impact of environmental governance on fishery economic development. The research provides a theoretical basis for breaking through the bottleneck of fishery development and realizing high-quality and sustainable development.

We study the impact of Russian regional governors’ rotation and their affiliation with private sector firms for the quality of investment climate in Russian regions. A theoretical model presented in the paper predicts that these factors taken together improve “endogenous” property rights under authoritarian regimes. This conclusion is confirmed empirically by using Russian regional data for 2002—2010; early in that period gubernatorial elections had been canceled and replaced by federal government’s appointments. This is an indication that under certain conditions government rotation is beneficial for economic development even when democracy is suppressed.

Existing studies of the impact of economic development on political trust in China have two major gaps: they fail to explain how economic development contributes to the hierarchical trust pattern, and they do not pay enough attention to the underlying mechanisms. In light of cultural theory and political control theory, we propose adapting performance theory into a theory of “asymmetrical attribution of performance” to better illuminate the case of China. This adapted theory leads to dual pathway theses: expectation fulfillment and local blaming. Using a multilevel mediation model, we show that expectation fulfillment mainly upholds trust in the central government, whereas local blaming undermines trust in local governments. We also uncover a rural–urban distinction in the dual pathway, revealing that both theses are more salient among rural Chinese.
