This paper presents an implementation of kinematic analysis to evaluate planar mechanisms for use in an automated design process. The existing software available for kinematic analysis require the user to manually input the mechanism for analysis. But in order to computationally synthesize planar mechanisms, it is important to automatically define the boundary conditions and adjust the necessary parameters to evaluate the kinematics of the mechanism in consideration. Currently, there are no kinematic analysis tools available that can be integrated with a design generation tool. One of the reasons is the absence of a method which not only solves the kinematics reliably but is also applicable to generalized n-bar mechanisms. The authors have implemented the instant center method for solving velocities, the vector polygon approach for solving accelerations and the dyadic decomposition method for solving positions. This implementation operates on n-bar mechanisms consisting of four-bar loops and one-degree of freedom on revolute (R), prismatic (P) and revolute-prismatic (R-P) joints. The developed method takes advantage of the concepts in object oriented programming as well as a unique representation based on graph-grammar formalism. This paper describes the methodology used for generalizing kinematic analysis for integration with a concept generator along with examples to validate the implementation.

Dual Energy Computed Tomography (DECT) is expected to become a significant tool for voxel-based detection of hazardous materials in airport baggage screening. The traditional approach to DECT imaging involves collecting the projection data using two different X-ray spectra and then decomposing the data thus collected into line integrals of two independent characterizations of the material properties. Typically, one of these characterizations involves the effective atomic number (Zeff) of the materials. However, with the X-ray spectral energies typically used for DECT imaging, the current best-practice approaches for dualenergy decomposition yield Zeff values whose accuracy range is limited to only a subset of the periodic-table elements, more specifically to (Z < 30). Although this estimation can be improved by using a system-independent ρe — Ze (SIRZ) space, the SIRZ transformation does not efficiently model the polychromatic nature of the X-ray spectra typically used in physical CT scanners. In this paper, we present a new decomposition method, AdaSIRZ, that corrects this shortcoming by adapting the SIRZ decomposition to the entire spectrum of an X-ray source. The method reformulates the X-ray attenuation equations as direct functions of (ρe, Ze) and solves for the coefficients using bounded nonlinear least-squares optimization. Performance comparison of AdaSIRZ with other Zeff estimation methods on different sets of real DECT images shows that AdaSIRZ provides a higher output accuracy for Zeff image reconstructions for a wider range of object materials.

The purpose of the paper is to analyze the promising and offering utterances in commissive of speech act, translation techniques and its equivalences in Forrest Gump movie subtitles. The method used is qualitative method. The results showed several techniques employed, such as adaptation, borrowing, established equivalent, linguistic compression, literal translation, modulation, particularization, reduction, transposition, and variation. The translation technique mostly used is established equivalence. For the shift rendering in source text and target text in Forrest Gump movie subtitles, it is concluded that mostly the data do not occur any shift in promising or offering utterances. Also, in terms of translation equivalence, the dominant kind of translation equivalence in this research is dynamic equivalence.
