Wordplay can be described as the way of making or using words to create additional meaning for some purposes. Using a qualitative approach, this study discusses the wordplay translation in literary work especially in dystopian fiction using Delabastita’s translation techniques of wordplay. The data derived from a novel entitled The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood as the source text and its subsequent translation in Bahasa Indonesia entitled The Handmaid’s Tale – Kisah Sang Handmaid as the target text. From 50 data retrieved, the result shows that the most frequently applied technique in wordplay translation is Wordplay to Non-Wordplay that appears 25 times or 50%. The result of this study illustrates that the translation of wordplay in this literary work tends not to preserve the author’s style of writing but one of the author’s intended meanings.

This article examines the political metaphors of the ancient Chinese philosophical treatise of Confucius Lun yu (The Analects). Confucius often used metaphors for a capacious and figurative presentation of his political views. Translation of Confuciuss political metaphors presents a certain difficulty, since it is necessary to preserve not only the meaning of the statement, but also the imagery. The object of the research is the political metaphors of Confuciuss work Lun yu and their translations into Russian by P.S. Popov, I.I. Semenenko and L.S. Perelomov. The aim of the work is to study the methods of translating political metaphors of the philosophical treatise of Confucius and the possibility of accurately transferring metaphors into Russian. The novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time the translations of Confuciuss political reflections, made by three translators, are analyzed and compared. Political metaphors of the text Lun yu, collected for analysis by the method of continuous sampling, are described and analyzed within the framework of the concept of A.P. Chudinov. Classification of the metaphors of a philosophical treatise into 4 groups - anthropomorphic metaphor , natural morphic metaphor , social metaphor , artifact metaphor - made it possible to identify the peculiarities of translation techniques for different groups of metaphors. The analysis showed that the metaphors of the anthropomorphic group almost always disappear in translations into Russian. On the contrary, natural morphic metaphors, as a rule, are preserved in the translated text. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that at present, the translations of the Chinese philosophical text into Russian have not been sufficiently studied. Analysis of Russian texts Lun yu - Judgments and Conversations (Lunyu) translated by P.S. Popov, I believe in antiquity translated by I.I. Semenenko, Lun yu translated by L.S. Perelomov - made it possible to analyze the techniques of translating metaphors, due to the authors preferences of the translators, as well as the possibility of preserving the original metaphor in translated texts. Three versions of the translation of the title of the ancient Chinese treatise into Russian indicate different approaches to the translation of the text. The conclusion summarizes the results of the study of techniques and methods of transferring political metaphors into Russian.

The current study aimed to find out the translation techniques applied by the translator in creating the Indonesian subtitles for the original lyrics of Shelter – a collaboration project of music video by Porter Robinson and Madeon, A1-Pictures and Crunchyroll uploaded on YouTube in 2016. The data were analyzed based on the audiovisual translation theory, especially the linguistics of subtitling, the translation technical procedures in the compared stylistics, and the choice in song translation. The study also applied qualitative approach which enabled the researchers to emerge data in descriptive way (in the form of words or pictures instead of numbers). Furthermore, the data were also in the forms of an audiovisual content. The study indicated that most of the lyrics were translated based on literal translation that was reflected by the equivalence of the source language and the target language. The audiovisual theory, particularly reduction theory was also applied in creating the subtitles. In addition, the subtitles were created without taking the music into consideration, meaning that the subtitles were devoted as a supplement or no more than another piece of the source text.

This article proposes a typology of translation of cultural markers in subtitles and uses as research material the film O auto da Compadecida (Arraes, 2000) in Brazilian Portuguese and its translation, A dog's will (Magrath, Videolar, 2000). The difficulty that cultural markers generate during various translation processes is evident and is accentuated in audiovisual works, in which different elements converge (text, image, sound design, soundtrack, body language, among others). To contribute to its analysis in this context, we used the concept of cultural marks and markers (Reichmann and Zavaglia, 2014), translational modalities (Aubert, 2006b), and considered translation techniques (Nunes, n.d.) to arrive at the typology presented here, followed by examples and illustrations.

The subject of this article is a Polish-language collection of emblems by Paweł Mirowski, the Spiritual Hammer, 1656. The work is in fact a paraphrase of Thomas à Kempis’s Imitatio Christi, which the author admits neither on the title page nor in the preface. In addition, the translation is supplemented with five to seven engravings (depending on the surviving copies) of an emblematic kind. The purpose of this article is twofold. Firstly, to juxtapose Mirowski’s translation with Kempis’s work in order to reveal his translation techniques and discuss the advisability of their use. Secondly, to analyse the purpose of using emblematics in the Imitatio Christi and to point to two hitherto unknown copper engravings preserved in a unique copy of the Seminary Library in Warsaw.

The paper deals with poetic translation analysis of the poem "At Night"of the Polish poet Bolesław Leśmian. The appearance of Bolesław Leśmian’s poetry in Ukrainian translation (the collections of selected works "Садбожий спалахненець" and "Ангели" translated by M. Kiianovska) has become an important event. The researcher focuses their attention on the contextual, poetic, poetical, artistic and stylistic peculiarities of the poem "At Night", in connection with the philosophic and literary views of the poet. The wide range of scientific works on Bolesław Leśmian’s poetry in Polish literary studies allows us to study different aspects of this poet’s poetics: symbolism, peculiarities of the artistic images creation, the appeal to folk sources, the language of his literary works, the image of God in his poetry, the role of rhythm, immediacy of worldview and creating the world anew in "song without words" etc.  The poetics of the poem has been studied, its interpretation is based on the unity of compositional, semantic, figurative elements of the poem. The translation analysis, aimed at the study of structural and semantic features of the poem "At Night" in Ukrainian translation, is concentrated on the author’s peculiarities of creating images and their representation by M. Kiianovska in her translation of the poem. The author of the article focuses on the concept of the original and translation, the overall mood of the poem, its content, figurative system, structure, rhythmic organization, the rhyming system of the translation and the original. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the selection of lexical equivalents, the poetic syntax of the poem and other translation techniques on the way to better understanding of the text, the artistic images creation and grammatical and compositional integrity of the translation of the poem.
