The study gives quantitative estimation of natural landforms sensitivity of accumulative type coasts exposed to human influence. Foredune is an essential element of a morphological structure of thebarrier spits located at the Baltic Sea sand coasts. The study compares contribution of the beach erosion and deflation (soil drifting) to the foredune degradation on the sea shore of the barrier spit with or without the recreational impact. The analysis is performed for three typical polygons located on the Russian part of the Vistula Spit. Chosen polygons present shore segments with various intensity of tourism: visitors from the village, unregulated camp tourism, and nearly natural conditions. Detailed geodesic survey was carried out on these three polygons (length 515 m, 265 m, and 521 m respectively; total area – 125000 m2) in July of 2015. It was done with single-frequency geodesic GPS Trimble 5700L1 (base station) and TrimbleR3 (rover). Two DEMs were developed using the results of laser scanning of 2007 and the survey of 2015. Volume deformation for whole polygons and its particular parts (beach and foredune ridge) was made by comparison of the DEMs. In the case of touristic load the effect of deflation is 5-15 times higher than the marine erosion of foredune edge. If not affected by an anthropogenic factor the foredune erosion is caused mainly by the sea, and its impact is 6 times higher than that of the natural deflation.

AbstractFirst principle calculations were performed to investigate the structural, mechanical, electronic properties, and thermodynamic properties of three binary Mg–B compounds under pressure, by using the first principle method. The results implied that the structural parameters and the mechanical properties of the Mg–B compounds without pressure are well matched with the obtainable theoretically simulated values and experimental data. The obtained pressure–volume and energy–volume revealed that the three Mg–B compounds were mechanically stable, and the volume variation decreases with an increase in the boron content. The shear and volume deformation resistance indicated that the elastic constant Cij and bulk modulus B increased when the pressure increased up to 40 GPa, and that MgB7 had the strongest capacity to resist shear and volume deformation at zero pressure, which indicated the highest hardness. Meanwhile, MgB4 exhibited a ductility transformation behaviour at 30 GPa, and MgB2 and MgB7 displayed a brittle nature under all the considered pressure conditions. The anisotropy of the three Mg–B compounds under pressure were arranged as follows: MgB4 > MgB2 > MgB7. Moreover, the total density of states varied slightly and decreased with an increase in the pressure. The Debye temperature ΘD of the Mg–B compounds gradually increased with an increase in the pressure and the boron content. The temperature and pressure dependence of the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient α were both obtained on the basis of Debye model under increased pressure from 0 to 40 GPa and increased temperatures. This paper brings a convenient understanding of the magnesium–boron alloys.

The crack resistance of concrete with crushed basalt aggregate was studied. Compared with the limestone concrete, the basalt concrete has larger drying shrinkage and autogenous volume deformation. The linear expansion coefficient of basalt concrete is 1.3×10－6 /°C larger than that of limestone concrete, and it has additional temperature deformation of 24.1×10－6. According to the analysis on temperature-stress of concrete, the cracking temperature of basalt concrete is 8.9°C higher than that of limestone concrete, and the crack resistance of basalt concrete is unfavorable.

Based on engineering practice, autogenous volume deformation and creep properties of C60 high performance concrete(C60 HPC) and C60 high strength concrete(C60 HSC) were evaluated in the study. The results showed that the cement partly-replaced with fly ash could significantly decrease the creep deformation, creep coefficient and creep degree. In comparison with C60 HSC, the creep coefficient and creep degree of C60 HPC were decreased 17.9％and15.8％ in 28 days, 22.9% and 21.0% in 270 days. For C60 HPC and C60 HSC at the same age, autogenous volume deformation of C60 HPC is greater than that of C60 HSC, but they were both less than 80×10-6 , and the autogenous volume deformation was basically completed in 7 days.

Tunnel lining concrete segment is the most critical and important structural member of shield tunneling. This investigation designed and produced high-performance composite concrete segment (HCCS). Some key indexes that affect the properties of segment were tested, such as impermeability, volume stability, mechanical property, etc. The results indicated that the impermeability of HCCS concrete cover was excellent and the chloride diffusion coefficient decreased one order of magnitude compared to that of the ordinary segment concrete cover, while the service-life of HCCS increased more than ten-fold. The volume stability of HCCS concrete cover and concrete structure layer were good and the better compatibility in the volume deformation of the whole structure was shown. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of concrete cover and concrete structure layer met the project requirement perfectly, ensuring the higher durability and longer service-life of HCCS effectively.

The importance of thermal behaviour of soils has increased significantly with increasing number of energy structures. There is a need for soils, which show design criteria (strength, permeability, etc.) performance during their life under high temperature or thermal cycles. In the literature studies, it was observed that the volumetric deformation of the soil changes with increasing temperature. Sand-bentonite mixtures generally act as impervious barrier in areas such as nuclear waste repositories, landfill liners etc. These mixtures will be exposed to high temperature; therefore, their engineering performance should not alter under high temperature. Boron is used in the industry for high temperature resistance, flexibility, lightness, power and ease of production. Boron minerals have very low thermal expansion and they are also resistant to thermal shocks. For that reason, the properties of sand-bentonite mixtures can be improved by boron additives at high temperatures. In this study, volume deformation behavior of sand-bentonite mixtures was determined in the presence of tincal. The oedometer tests were performed under room temperature and 80°C.
