Recommender systems have been widely used for predicting unknown ratings. Collaborative filtering as a recommendation technique uses known ratings for predicting user preferences in the item selection. However, current collaborative filtering methods cannot distinguish malicious users from unknown users. Also, they have serious drawbacks in generating ratings for cold-start users. Trust networks among recommender systems have been proved beneficial to improve the quality and number of predictions. This paper proposes an improved trust-aware recommender system that uses resistive circuits for trust inference. This method uses trust information to produce personalized recommendations. The result of evaluating the proposed method on Epinions dataset shows that this method can significantly improve the accuracy of recommender systems while not reducing the coverage of recommender systems.

In order to draw users’ attention and to increase their satisfaction toward online information search results, search-engine developers and vendors try to predict user preferences based on users’ behavior. Recommendations are provided by the search engines or online vendors to the users. Recommendation systems are implemented on commercial and nonprofit Web sites to predict user preferences. For commercial Web sites, accurate predictions may result in higher selling rates. The main functions of recommendation systems include analyzing user data and extracting useful information for further predictions. Recommendation systems are designed to allow users to locate preferable items quickly and to avoid possible information overload. Recommendation systems apply data-mining techniques to determine the similarity among thousands or even millions of data. Collaborative-filtering techniques have been successful in enabling the prediction of user preferences in recommendation systems (Hill, Stead, Rosenstein, & Furnas, 1995, Shardanand & Maes, 1995). There are three major processes in recommendation systems: object data collections and representations, similarity decisions, and recommendation computations. Collaborative filtering aims at finding the relationships among new individual data and existing data in order to further determine their similarity and provide recommendations. How to define the similarity is an important issue. How similar should two objects be in order to finalize the preference prediction? Similarity decisions are concluded differently by collaborative-filtering techniques. For example, people that like and dislike movies in the same categories would be considered as the ones with similar behavior (Chee, Han, & Wang, 2001). The concept of the nearest-neighbor algorithm has been included in the implementation of recommendation systems (Resnick, Iacovou, Suchak, Bergstrom, & Riedl, 1994). The designs of pioneer recommendation systems focus on entertainment fields (Dahlen, Konstan, Herlocker, Good, Borchers, & Riedl, 1998; Resnick et al.; Shardanand & Maes; Hill et al.). The challenge of conventional collaborative-filtering algorithms is the scalability issue (Sarwar, Karypis, Konstan, & Riedl, 2000a). Conventional algorithms explore the relationships among system users in large data sets. User data are dynamic, which means the data vary within a short time period. Current users may change their behavior patterns, and new users may enter the system at any moment. Millions of user data, which are called neighbors, are to be examined in real time in order to provide recommendations (Herlocker, Konstan, Borchers, & Riedl, 1999). Searching among millions of neighbors is a time-consuming process. To solve this, item-based collaborative-filtering algorithms are proposed to enable reductions of computations because properties of items are relatively static (Sarwar, Karypis, Konstan, & Riedl, 2001). Suggest is a top-N recommendation engine implemented with item-based recommendation algorithms (Deshpande & Karypis, 2004; Karypis, 2000). Meanwhile, the amount of items is usually less than the number of users. In early 2004, Amazon Investor Relations (2004) stated that the Amazon.com apparel and accessories store provided about 150,000 items but had more than 1 million customer accounts that had ordered from this store. Amazon.com employs an item-based algorithm for collaborative-filtering-based recommendations (Linden, Smith, & York, 2003) to avoid the disadvantages of conventional collaborative-filtering algorithms.

Hashing is an effective technique to address the large-scale recommendation problem, due to its high computation and storage efficiency on calculating the user preferences on items. However, existing hashing-based recommendation methods still suffer from two important problems: 1) Their recommendation process mainly relies on the user-item interactions and single specific content feature. When the interaction history or the content feature is unavailable (the cold-start problem), their performance will be seriously deteriorated. 2) Existing methods learn the hash codes with relaxed optimization or adopt discrete coordinate descent to directly solve binary hash codes, which results in significant quantization loss or consumes considerable computation time. In this paper, we propose a fast cold-start recommendation method, called Multi-Feature Discrete Collaborative Filtering (MFDCF), to solve these problems. Specifically, a low-rank self-weighted multi-feature fusion module is designed to adaptively project the multiple content features into binary yet informative hash codes by fully exploiting their complementarity. Additionally, we develop a fast discrete optimization algorithm to directly compute the binary hash codes with simple operations. Experiments on two public recommendation datasets demonstrate that MFDCF outperforms the state-of-the-arts on various aspects.

Personalized music recommendations can accurately push the music of interest from a massive song library based on user information when the user’s listening needs are blurred. To this end, this paper proposes a method of national music recommendation based on ontology modeling and context awareness to explore the use of music resources to portray user preferences better. First, the expectation-maximization algorithm is used to cluster users and ethnic music scores, and similar users and music are divided into clusters. The similarity of objects in the same cluster is higher, and the similarity of objects in different clusters is lower. Second, we designed a multilayer collaborative filtering ethnic music recommendation model based on ontology modeling and tensor decomposition. This model uses ontology to construct a user knowledge model and integrates similarity measures in multiple situations. The actual case test and user feedback analysis show that the designed personalized national music model has good application and promotion effects.

Aiming at the problem that the single model of the traditional recommendation system cannot accurately capture user preferences, this paper proposes a hybrid movie recommendation system and optimization method based on weighted classification and user collaborative filtering algorithm. The sparse linear model is used as the basic recommendation model, and the local recommendation model is trained based on user clustering, and the top-N personalized recommendation of movies is realized by fusion with the weighted classification model. According to the item category preference, the scoring matrix is converted into a low-dimensional, dense item category preference matrix, multiple cluster centers are obtained, the distance between the target user and each cluster center is calculated, and the target user is classified into the closest cluster. Finally, the collaborative filtering algorithm is used to predict the scores for the unrated items of the target user to form a recommendation list. The items are clustered through the item category preference, and the high-dimensional rating matrix is converted into a low-dimensional item category preference matrix, which further reduces the sparsity of the data. Experiments based on the Douban movie dataset verify that the recommendation algorithm proposed in this article solves the shortcomings of a single algorithm model to a certain extent and improves the recommendation effect.

Recommenders are systems that employ some knowledge on items and user preferences, along with sophisticated algorithms to provide personalised content and services. They have been around to tackle the information overload and personalisation demand in today's always-connected world. This technology appeared in the cultural heritage domain relatively recently, but the bibliography is already rich, as cultural tourism plays an important role for regional economies. From the technical perspective, different approaches, like collaborative filtering, content-based, knowledge-based and hybrid approaches, have been adopted. From the intuition perspective, the approaches are influenced by current conceptualisation and specific application domains and demands. The museum has been one of the main target applications, either as a part of visit support or in the context of cultural tourism initiatives. This article presents a review of the domain and draws a generic blueprint for the end-to-end development of a recommender for cultural tourism that outperforms a baseline popularity-based approach.

With the rapid development of mobile terminal devices, mobile user activities can be carried out anytime and anywhere through various mobile terminals. The current research on mobile communication network is mainly focused on extracting useful and interesting information for mobile user from massive and disordered information. However, the sparsity of scoring data matrix results in low quality of recommendation algorithm. In order to overcome this drawback, the traditional collaborative filtering algorithm is improved. First, the user-interest matrix and item-feature matrix were obtained by analyzing mobile user behavior and item attributes. Fuzzy trust based model is utilized for collaborative filtering analysis for mobile user preferences. Then, the similarity between different mobile users was calculated by weighted calculation. With this method, mobile user preference can be predicted effectively, making it possible to recommend rational resource and waste less time in extracting resources out of the massive information. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the mean absolute error (MAE) and the impact of sparse scoring matrix data compared with the traditional collaborative filtering algorithm, and improves the recommendation effect to a certain extent.

AbstractThe collaborative filtering method is widely used in the traditional recommendation system. The collaborative filtering method based on matrix factorization treats the user’s preference for the item as a linear combination of the user and the item latent vectors, and cannot learn a deeper feature representation. In addition, the cold start and data sparsity remain major problems for collaborative filtering. To tackle these problems, some scholars have proposed to use deep neural network to extract text information, but did not consider the impact of long-distance dependent information and key information on their models. In this paper, we propose a neural collaborative filtering recommender method that integrates user and item auxiliary information. This method fully integrates user-item rating information, user assistance information and item text assistance information for feature extraction. First, Stacked Denoising Auto Encoder is used to extract user features, and Gated Recurrent Unit with auxiliary information is used to extract items’ latent vectors, respectively. The attention mechanism is used to learn key information when extracting text features. Second, the latent vectors learned by deep learning techniques are used in multi-layer nonlinear networks to learn more abstract and deeper feature representations to predict user preferences. According to the verification results on the MovieLens data set, the proposed model outperforms other traditional approaches and deep learning models making it state of the art.
