Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the main factors influencing agri-food small and medium enterprises (SMEs) participation in business networks and to evaluate the impacts of these factors on network structure and the ensuing competitive strategy. Design/methodology/approach The study is articulated in four main steps. First, a critical literature review is conducted concerning the main approaches to firm competitive advantage and the role of stakeholder relationships. Then, three research questions are formulated and discussed in the light of two case studies describing the implementation of an innovative contractual solution in Italy (i.e. business network contracts). Finally, based on these findings, a set of more general “propositions” are stated and included in a provisional conceptual model that schematically depicts an integrated vision of the antecedents and mechanisms influencing SMEs business network structure and competitive strategy. Findings The study results pointed out the opportunity to adopt an integrated approach, combining resource-based view and stakeholder causal scope approaches. The provisional conceptual model proposed illustrates the role of both external and internal resources and relational constructs to shaping network structure and competitive strategy. Originality/value The study’s contribution is twofold. First, the empirical study shed light on opportunities and limits of two business networks with different backgrounds, approaches and outcomes towards value creation. Second, the conceptual framework proposed advances our understanding and knowledge of the factors and mechanisms influencing SMEs business network structure and competitive strategy.

Purpose – the purpose of this study is to analyse the impact of the recent economic crisis on the network topology structure of Pakistan stock market. Since stock market is considered a core financial market for the development of an economy, it is often used as benchmark to measure a country`s progress. Policymakers often forecast tendency of share prices, that is dependent on several foreign and local macroeconomic factors. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate how rising inflation, higher interest rates, and trade and budgetary deficits affect the network structure of blue-chip 96 companies listed on the Karachi stock exchange (KSE-100) index of Pakistan stock market. Research methodology – this study follows the methodology proposed by Mantegna and Stanley and uses cross-correlation in the daily closing price of KSE 100 Index companies to compute Minimum spanning tree (MST) structures. Additionally, we also apply time-varying topological property of average tree length to extract dynamic features of the MST networks. Findings – we construct eight monthly MSTs that show the instability of the network structure and significant differences in the topological characteristics due to economic crisis of Pakistan. Furthermore, the time-varying topological property of average tree length reveals contraction of the networks due to tight correlation among stocks. Research limitations – this study focuses on correlation-based network construction of MST. The scope of the study can be widened by constructing partial correlation-based MSTs and comparison of different networks structures accordingly. Practical implications – the network properties and findings of this paper will help policymakers and regulators in setting right policies, regulatory framework, and risk management for the stock market. Originality/Value – no previous studies have performed MST based network analysis examining macroeconomic events. Therefore, we fill the research gap and thoroughly analyse structural change and dynamics of Pakistan stock market during the turbulence of current economic crisis of Pakistan.

Formulation of the problem. The development of information systems for collecting, processing and exchanging radar information occurs, on the one hand, in the direction of improving the technical characteristics of information processing facilities and data transmission facilities, on the other hand, in the direction of improving information processing algorithms and the structure of the information system. This article summarizes the possibilities for the development of information systems in the second direction.Purpose. Development of a variant of building an information system with a fully connected network structure and intended for the collection, processing and exchange of radar information.Results. The development, as a tool for building an information system of a network structure, is based on an integrated approach that provides for the use of an algorithm without branching solutions for information processing, a network semi-connected structure itself and network algorithms, a higher level than the level of collection and processing, for organizing functioning of information exchange in the network. The short processing time of information when entering it into the system makes it possible to create a dynamic array of homogeneous radar data, updated when radar information arrives from sources.Practical significance. Information systems, wholly or partly built on the basis of such an integrated approach, are applicable in areas such as air traffic control systems; multi-beam and multi-range radars (ornithological, meteo, etc.), radars for security complexes, incoherent spatially-separated radar information sources, combined into a system (for example, for studying the ionosphere).

AbstractBiogeography has traditionally focused on the spatial distribution and abundance of species. Both are driven by the way species interact with one another, but also by the way these interactions vary across time and space. Here, we call for an integrated approach, adopting the view that community structure is best represented as a network of ecological interactions, and show how it translates to biogeography questions. We propose that the ecological niche should encompass the effect of the environment on species distribution (the Grinnellian dimension of the niche) and on the ecological interactions among them (the Eltonian dimension). Starting from this concept, we develop a quantitative theory to explain turnover of interactions in space and timei.e. a novel approach to interaction distribution modelling. We apply this framework to host parasite interactions across Europe and find that two aspects of the environment (temperature and precipitation) exert a strong imprint on species co-occurrence, but not on species interactions. Even where species co-occur, interaction proves to be stochastic rather than deterministic, adding to variation in realized network structure. We also find that a large majority of host-parasite pairs are never found together, thus precluding any inferences regarding their probability to interact. This first attempt to explain variation of network structure at large spatial scales opens new perspectives at the interface of species distribution modelling and community ecology.

Introduction. The article deals with the approaches for the determination of the state of liquidity of the banking system of Ukraine after the change of the monetary regime. The main negative factors that influence the dynamics of liquidity of the domestic banking system are determined. Recommendations for improving the efficiency of banking liquidity management are proposed. They are determined with consideration of strategic guidelines for the development of the banking system of Ukraine. Purpose. The article aims to substantiate the integrated approach to assessing the current state of liquidity of the banking system and to identify problems and strategic guidelines for improving the efficiency of liquidity management and functioning of the banking system of Ukraine. Method (methodology). In this research we have used the following methods: system analysis methods (to evaluate the effectiveness of approaches to assessing the state of liquidity of the banking system of Ukraine); methods of analogy and comparison (to study the liquidity management of the banking system of Ukraine during the financial and economic crisis of 2008-2009 and the economic crisis in 2014-2017); statistical methods (to analyse the dynamics of liquidity indicators of the banking system and monetary indicators of the National Bank of Ukraine, the Federal Reserve System of the USA and the European Central Bank). Results. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the approaches to assessing the liquidity of the Ukrainian banking system, which is used by the National Bank of Ukraine, we have found a mistake in the approach. This mistake is based on the assessment of the net liquidity position of the banking system. The influence of negative factors on the liquidity of the banking system of Ukraine has been assessed with the help of correlation and regression analysis. Four strategic guidelines for increasing the efficiency of management of bank liquidity have been proposed. Among them we distinguish the reduction of interest rates for active and passive operations which can be provided in the conditions of creation of a broad corridor between overnight refinancing rates and overnight deposit certificates; the introduction of long-term targeted refinancing for state development programs; the improvement of the mechanism of compulsory redundancy; the improvement of the activity of state banks and the creation of development banks.
