The rapid pace of technological developments played a key role in the previous industrial revolutions. However, the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) and its embedded technology diffusion progress is expected to grow exponentially in terms of technical change and socioeconomic impact. Therefore, coping with such transformation require a holistic approach that encompasses innovative and sustainable system solutions and not just technological ones. In this article, we propose a framework that can facilitate the interaction between technological and social innovation to continuously come up with proactive, and hence timely, sustainable strategies. These strategies can leverage economic rewards, enrich society at large, and protect the environment. The new forthcoming opportunities that will be generated through the next industrial wave are gigantic at all levels. However, the readiness for such revolutionary conversion require coupling the forces of technological innovation and social innovation under the sustainability umbrella.

Modern industry developed over several centuries and three industrial revolutions. Today, we experience the fourth era of the industrial revolution, Industry 4.0. The advance of industrialization brought along many problems, including environmental pollution, global warming, and depletion of natural resources. As a result, the concept of sustainability began to gain importance. Sustainability can be achieved through a balance between economic, social, and environmental processes. In order to establish such balance, businesses need new business models or insights. At this point, Industry 4.0 can be regarded as a new business mindset that will help businesses and communities move towards sustainable development. The technologies used by Industry 4.0 bear a strong promise to solve these problems, after all. Even though Industry 4.0 attracts a lot of attention lately, few works are available on its impact on sustainability. This chapter examines the impact of Industry 4.0 on sustainability.

Purpose Industry 4.0 is a term for the so-called Fourth Industrial revolutions. It is the technological integration of cyber-physical systems (CPS) in the process of production. CPS enables internet-based process networking with all participants in the process of value creation. The industrial revolution is actually changing how we live, work and communicate. Many trades have highly been affected by 4IR, libraries are one of them. The libraries of twenty-first century are shifting their paradigms from traditional setup to modern information networking. As people and machines are connecting to each other at enormous speed, artificial intelligence, mobile computing, machine learning and automation of every trade have become a need of the day. Automation and artificial intelligence are change agents in 4IR that will make certain groups of employees redundant, replacing them with new workers with the needed skills or with machines that do the job cheaper. This paper aims to shed light on how the 4IR will “shape the future of education, gender, work and library services”. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the challenges being faced by the library and librarians in the age of Industrial 4.0 revolution in contemporary society. The purpose of this study is to review the past literature on Industrial Revolutions 4.0 in education and interlink them with Library services. Design/methodology/approach The current study performs a systematic and content-centric review of literature relevant to library services. The literature of this study is based on a six-stage approach to identify the design principles and technology trends of 4IR in education and Library services. Findings Industry 4.0 Revolution is the current trend of revolutionary technology, which has affected many services in this age of globalization. Similar, Library services have highly been affected by 4IR. An effort has been made to highlight the vari-ous challenges being faced by libraries and librarians in this age of information. Some solutions have been presented to the library professionals to overcome this technology to boost its services up to the entire satisfaction of the patrons. Research limitations/implications The strategic approach in this study can serve the academicians and practitioners in the field of librarianship as a stepping stone to develop a successful transition from traditional manufacturing into the industry 4.0. Originality/value The study is among the first to identify the challenges being faced by libraries and librarians in this age of Industrial revolutions.

The industry has different industrial revolutions leading to great fluctuations in all areas of life, especially in the field of education. Technology has become ubiquitous in educational organizations help meet the demands of improving, optimizing, and personalizing education. The ability to automate learner tracking becomes possible, at least in the assessment of learner's diligence and progress as well as their acquisition of knowledge and skills. Especially in the context of knowledge becoming increasingly heterogeneous and complex in today's learning environment. With constant innovation and development in today's teaching and learning, we need transform the paradigm of integrating technology into the teaching process to accommodate collaboration and coordination. In this article, we propose a solution integrating technology into higher education in the context of higher education 4.0. University 4.0 concept is inspired by the industry 4.0 model and applies this concept to higher education to better meet the increasing needs of learners. The article also focuses on presenting the context of the industrial revolution and the education revolution, especially the digital transformation in education from education 3.0 to education 4.0, the challenges facing university 4.0. proposed university model 4.0. It is an open, flexible and interconnected university model, with the aim of providing learners with professional capabilities to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0, creating a lifelong learning environment, according to specific conditions, individual needs, aspirations and preferences of learners.

The preprint is a presentation about the contributions of Muslim scientists to technology enabling the fourth industrial revolution. First, the presentation illustrates the industrial revolutions and their enabling technologies, and then it focuses on the industry 4.0 technologies by highlighting the history of artificial intelligence. It continues with the flashback of the contributions of scientists from the Islamic Golden Age to technologies used in industry 4.0, such as mechanics, automation, robotics, and IT. The presentation presents the works of Banu Musa, Al-Jazari, and Al-Khawarizm. Then, the presentation gives an overview of the implications of industry 4.0 on business, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Finally, the presentation presents the challenges and opportunity of current Muslim scientists and communities in facing the industry 4.0 era.

Industrial revolution refers to a period in human history in which revolutionary scientific discoveries and inventions that affect the functioning of society as a whole take place. Changes resulting from industrial revolutions sooner or later affect all sectors of the economy. The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, has brought with it many changes. Industry 4.0 has spread rapidly and has become a current phenomenon. Within the theoretical part of the contribution, the authors deal with development, definition, and comparison of industrial revolutions. The aim of the contribution is to examine the readiness of the Visegrad Four countries for changes connected with Industry 4.0. Several national initiatives responding to Industry 4.0 have been launched across Europe in recent years. Their purpose is to regulate the realization of Industry 4.0 and its consequences. Almost every member state of the European Union has its own national initiative, responding to Industry 4.0. Within the practical part of the contribution, authors focused on initiatives responding to Industry 4.0 in the V4 countries. To examine the readiness of the V4 countries for the challenges related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution - Industry 4.0, secondary data - The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) - was used, as well as a z-score calculation. The resulting z-scores show which countries currently achieve the best results in terms of the Drivers of Production values when compared to the GDP per capita. To see how each country is doing compared to the mean value of the respective indicators, z-scores were calculated for each of them.

Purpose. The aim of the article is to assess the impact of Industry 4.0 on employment in Ukraine and the world. The following tasks are set to achieve this goal: to analyse the historical impact of industrial revolutions on employment, including the characteristics of changes in its structure, as well as professional composition; highlight how the fourth industrial revolution differs from the previous three; consider the structure of available vacancies in Ukraine and assess how the national labour market is subject to automation. Methodology of research. This article uses the historical and logical unity method to analyse the impact of industrial revolutions on employment, as well as a comparison method to highlight the distinguishing features of Industry 4.0. A graphical method is applied to assess the sectorial structure of vacancies prone to automation in Ukraine. Findings. Industry 4.0 has been found to have common and distinctive features of the impact on employment with the previous three industrial revolutions. The structure of employment at different historical stages is analysed. It was found out that its structure is actively changing now; new professions and whole branches of application of human labour are appearing. The structure of the labour market in Ukraine is considered. It has been proved that Industry 4.0 can exacerbate inequalities between different sections of the population and lead to the disappearance of a large number of occupations, which today employ half of the workforce of national economies. Originality. An analytical approach to the definition of professions that are most prone to automation in the context of the fourth industrial revolution in the Ukrainian labour market has received further development. This approach simultaneously takes into account modern foreign practices and the national statistical base. Practical value. The obtained results in the course of the study can be used in the development of state programs to support employment in the national economy. Since people will require retraining and additional training due to the special propensity of their professions to automation and computerization. In addition, the obtained data can be used to determine the priority areas of state funding for educational institutions, which in the future will reduce youth unemployment. The usage of the terms the ’Fourth Industrial Revolution’ and its predominantly used synonym ‘Industry 4.0’ has curved upwards at a higher rate than the number of underlying interconnected production units. The concept of Industry 4.0 originates from a project on the high-tech strategy of the German government in 2011. This project promoted the computerization of manufacturing and it was a logical suggestion for the long-term competitiveness of the German economy. The fundamentals of an export-oriented economy need system-level development not to be disadvantaged in the global competition. Building all this on the most modern technologies can be defined as a traditional step. The umbrella term ’Industry 4.0’ has outgrown this step and in 2016 it became an independent agenda item of the World Economic Forum. In this study, with the help of a literature review, we examine which factors of this so-called fourth industrial revolution are similar and which factors are different compared to the previous industrial revolutions. Can the characteristics of industrial revolutions be identified? Is the impact complex and does it influence not only the technology but also the society, the politics, etc.? Whether the use of the term is substantiated or is it only an advanced, fashionable buzzer hanging all today’s forward-looking innovations on the same peg?

The most up-to-date trends in development of length and angle metrology were presented. This development falls within a concept of Industry 4.0 and is understood as Metrology 4.0. Basic elements of these concepts and their connections were shown during years in relation to consecutive industrial revolutions. Specific issues regarding additive technologies were described with a view to functional filtration. Achievements of coordinate measuring technique in macro scale were also presented including optical scanning and computed tomography. In conclusions standardization works regarding the mentioned topics were described.
