THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION (INDUSTRY 4.0) A SOCIAL INNOVATION PERSPECTIVE

The rapid pace of technological developments played a key role in the previous industrial revolutions. However, the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) and its embedded technology diffusion progress is expected to grow exponentially in terms of technical change and socioeconomic impact. Therefore, coping with such transformation require a holistic approach that encompasses innovative and sustainable system solutions and not just technological ones. In this article, we propose a framework that can facilitate the interaction between technological and social innovation to continuously come up with proactive, and hence timely, sustainable strategies. These strategies can leverage economic rewards, enrich society at large, and protect the environment. The new forthcoming opportunities that will be generated through the next industrial wave are gigantic at all levels. However, the readiness for such revolutionary conversion require coupling the forces of technological innovation and social innovation under the sustainability umbrella.

The preprint is a presentation about the contributions of Muslim scientists to technology enabling the fourth industrial revolution. First, the presentation illustrates the industrial revolutions and their enabling technologies, and then it focuses on the industry 4.0 technologies by highlighting the history of artificial intelligence. It continues with the flashback of the contributions of scientists from the Islamic Golden Age to technologies used in industry 4.0, such as mechanics, automation, robotics, and IT. The presentation presents the works of Banu Musa, Al-Jazari, and Al-Khawarizm. Then, the presentation gives an overview of the implications of industry 4.0 on business, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Finally, the presentation presents the challenges and opportunity of current Muslim scientists and communities in facing the industry 4.0 era.

Industrial revolution refers to a period in human history in which revolutionary scientific discoveries and inventions that affect the functioning of society as a whole take place. Changes resulting from industrial revolutions sooner or later affect all sectors of the economy. The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, has brought with it many changes. Industry 4.0 has spread rapidly and has become a current phenomenon. Within the theoretical part of the contribution, the authors deal with development, definition, and comparison of industrial revolutions. The aim of the contribution is to examine the readiness of the Visegrad Four countries for changes connected with Industry 4.0. Several national initiatives responding to Industry 4.0 have been launched across Europe in recent years. Their purpose is to regulate the realization of Industry 4.0 and its consequences. Almost every member state of the European Union has its own national initiative, responding to Industry 4.0. Within the practical part of the contribution, authors focused on initiatives responding to Industry 4.0 in the V4 countries. To examine the readiness of the V4 countries for the challenges related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution - Industry 4.0, secondary data - The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) - was used, as well as a z-score calculation. The resulting z-scores show which countries currently achieve the best results in terms of the Drivers of Production values when compared to the GDP per capita. To see how each country is doing compared to the mean value of the respective indicators, z-scores were calculated for each of them.

Purpose. The aim of the article is to assess the impact of Industry 4.0 on employment in Ukraine and the world. The following tasks are set to achieve this goal: to analyse the historical impact of industrial revolutions on employment, including the characteristics of changes in its structure, as well as professional composition; highlight how the fourth industrial revolution differs from the previous three; consider the structure of available vacancies in Ukraine and assess how the national labour market is subject to automation. Methodology of research. This article uses the historical and logical unity method to analyse the impact of industrial revolutions on employment, as well as a comparison method to highlight the distinguishing features of Industry 4.0. A graphical method is applied to assess the sectorial structure of vacancies prone to automation in Ukraine. Findings. Industry 4.0 has been found to have common and distinctive features of the impact on employment with the previous three industrial revolutions. The structure of employment at different historical stages is analysed. It was found out that its structure is actively changing now; new professions and whole branches of application of human labour are appearing. The structure of the labour market in Ukraine is considered. It has been proved that Industry 4.0 can exacerbate inequalities between different sections of the population and lead to the disappearance of a large number of occupations, which today employ half of the workforce of national economies. Originality. An analytical approach to the definition of professions that are most prone to automation in the context of the fourth industrial revolution in the Ukrainian labour market has received further development. This approach simultaneously takes into account modern foreign practices and the national statistical base. Practical value. The obtained results in the course of the study can be used in the development of state programs to support employment in the national economy. Since people will require retraining and additional training due to the special propensity of their professions to automation and computerization. In addition, the obtained data can be used to determine the priority areas of state funding for educational institutions, which in the future will reduce youth unemployment. The usage of the terms the ’Fourth Industrial Revolution’ and its predominantly used synonym ‘Industry 4.0’ has curved upwards at a higher rate than the number of underlying interconnected production units. The concept of Industry 4.0 originates from a project on the high-tech strategy of the German government in 2011. This project promoted the computerization of manufacturing and it was a logical suggestion for the long-term competitiveness of the German economy. The fundamentals of an export-oriented economy need system-level development not to be disadvantaged in the global competition. Building all this on the most modern technologies can be defined as a traditional step. The umbrella term ’Industry 4.0’ has outgrown this step and in 2016 it became an independent agenda item of the World Economic Forum. In this study, with the help of a literature review, we examine which factors of this so-called fourth industrial revolution are similar and which factors are different compared to the previous industrial revolutions. Can the characteristics of industrial revolutions be identified? Is the impact complex and does it influence not only the technology but also the society, the politics, etc.? Whether the use of the term is substantiated or is it only an advanced, fashionable buzzer hanging all today’s forward-looking innovations on the same peg?

Abstract The holistic approach to Industry 4.0 requires a broader look at the changes taking place in the area of marketing. Therefore, this article mainly aims to present an outline of changes in marketing for companies implementing the concept of Industry 4.0 in the context of Design Principles of Industry 4.0. The authors propose a conceptual framework for Marketing in Industry 4.0, deriving from the guidelines for designing strategies to implement Industry 4.0. The paper allows a better understanding of the Industry 4.0 phenomenon in the context of changes in the area of marketing in general and in industrial markets in particular. The conceptual framework presented in the article suggests a need for a new approach to shaping marketing strategies and the marketing mix in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and helps in identifying the key areas for the marketing mix according to the Industry 4.0 concept.

The article provides an systematic analysis of the development of innovative technologies during the first, second, third and fourth industrial revolutions. The stages of industrialization, from the introduction of mechanical production equipment to digitalization and automation, to "Industry 4.0" with the establishment of links between all stakeholders. The essence of Industry 4.0 (the fourth industrial revolution) is defined. Two views on the influence of intellectual property on the development of industrial revolutions are considered: as those that led to a series of changes in all sectors of the economy and the spread of new patents and designs, and one that points to the shortcomings of patenting as a monopolistic deterrent to development and enforcement industrial revolutions. The conclusion on the influence of intellectual property on the development of industrial revolutions is stated. An analysis of the state and stages, achievements of industrial revolutions in Ukraine is given.

The process excellence discipline comprises several philosophies, approaches, and techniques with different headings and origins. The history of the industrial revolutions is related with the beginnings and development of these process excellence approaches. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to explore the evolution of process excellence throughout these four industrial revolutions in order to propose recommendations to successfully cope this new revolution from the process excellence perspective. The chapter reviews publications about the history of the industrial revolutions, technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, and it includes the outputs from a roundtable with Industry 4.0 experts. The chapter concludes that the concept of process and process excellence is essential to implement this new revolution and that the current practices of process excellence most be review in with the perspective of Industry 4.0.

<p><span class="fontstyle0">The aim of this paper is to discuss and present definitions, benefits and changes of positions, which are related to the fourth industrial revolution era, 4.0 industry. The industry 4.0 concept is based on the integration of several innovative technologies which have been revolutionizing the way processes are performed in organizations. As in the industrial revolutions that occurred throughout history, 4.0 industry has caused impacts and changes in the current production model and work dynamics, as well as adaptations in labor systems. With the development of the fourth industrial revolution we have a new productive reality where everything within an industry will be connected to make the best decision regarding production, cost and safety. However, this transition from the current working model will require a great deal of learning and rapid worker training. Different types of jobs will be specifically impacted because of their nature, and these impacts depend on categories and the industrial sector itself. It is essential that we make an evaluation of the impacts that the 4.0 industry will have on work dynamics.</span><br /><br /></p>

This study will explain the influence of industrial revolution 4.0 on the competence of STIE Pembangunan Tanjungpinang Students. The workforce needed by the industry today are those are competent in the use of digital technology to create smart factories, such as one of the Internet of Things (IoT). The era of the industrial revolution 4.0 opens the opportunity to all students to acquire expertise in accordance with the latest technological developments. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out an up-skilling program or reskilling of students based on the needs of today's industry because talent is the key or important factor for the success participation in industry 4.0. This study uses participatory qualitative research method, which emphasize the depth of the results of research where researchers are directly involved as research instruments. Data is obtained through literature studies, interviews and direct practice. The results of this study will explain the efforts in preparing and mapping the competence of STIE Development students in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. in creating competent students. This is important if our nation wants to be empowered in the days of the fourth industrial revolution which is all automatic and robotic characterised by the latest technology.
