The paper deals with semi-active chatter absorber based on an electrodynamic transducer built around high-energy permanent magnets. Also, a fuzzy logic control system for the absorber control system has been designed. The principal advantage of fuzzy control is the possibility to implement practical experience gained by machine operators in the control algorithm. Hence, the possibility of factoring such quantities, as vibrations experienced by selected points of the machine-tool, and sound emitted by working machine into the analyzed chatter absorber fuzzy control system has been studied in the paper. The control system has been tested by way of simulation with the use of the process and cutting force models.

Purpose This paper aims to propose an improved direct torque control (DTC) for the induction motor’s performance enhancement using dual nonlinear techniques. The exact feedback linearization is implemented to create a linear decoupled control. Besides, the fuzzy logic control approach has been inserted to generate the auxiliary control input for the feedback linearization controller. Design/methodology/approach To improve the DTC for induction motor drive, this work suggests the incorporation of two nonlinear approaches. As the classical feedback linearization suffers while the presence of uncertainties and modeling inaccuracy, it is recommended to be associated to another robust control approach to compensate the uncertainties of the model and make a robust control versus the variations of the machine parameters. Therefore, fuzzy logic controllers will be integrated as auxiliary inputs to the feedback linearization control law. Findings The simulation and the experimental validation of the proposed control algorithm show that the association of dual techniques can effectively achieve high dynamic behavior and improve the robustness against parameters variation and external disturbances. Moreover, the space vector modulation is used to preserve a fixed switching frequency, reduce ripples and low switching losses. Practical implications The theoretical, simulation and experimental studies prove that the proposed control algorithm can be used on different AC machines for variable speed drive applications such as oil drilling, traction systems and wind energy conversion systems. Originality/value The proposed DTC strategy has been developed theoretically and realized through simulation and experimental implementation. Different operation conditions have been conducted to check the ability and robustness of the control strategy, such as steady state, speed reversal maneuver, low-speed operation and parameters variation test with load application.

Abstract This paper deals with the control problem concerning the output voltage frequency and amplitude regulation of a wind system power plant not connected to the supply grid. The wind system configuration includes a horizontal-axis wind-turbine which drives a synchronous generator. An appropriate modeling approach has been adopted for both the wind-turbine and the synchronous generator. The proposed controller makes use of the fuzzy logic environment in order to take advantage of the wind plant system informations integrated into a limited number of equilibrium condition points (input variable - output variable pairs). The fuzzy logic controller described in the present paper merges the most appropriate fuzzy rules clusters, based on the steady state working conditions. Then, thanks to a Least Square Estimator algorithm, the proposed control algorithm evaluates, for each sample time, the linear relation between control law correction and control tracking error levels. In order to demonstrate robustness of the suggested fuzzy control algorithm, two sets of results have been provided: the first one consider a fuzzy base with equally spaced rules, whereas, in the second set results, the number of fuzzy rules is reduced by a 25%.

Eight degrees of freedom vehicle model was established. Using the method of fuzzy control, the ABS control algorithm was designed based on slip ratio. Simulation analysis was done at speed of 15m/s, 20m/s, 25m/s under turning braking. The results show that the vehicle braking performance and vehicle stability at middle or low speed was improved by using the ABS controller, but qualitative analysis shows that phenomenon of vehicle instability was appeared at high-speed conditions. The turning braking stability under ABS controller was judged quantificationally by the stability judging formula. The results show that the requirements of stability control could not meet with only Anti-lock Braking System.
