In recent years, the amount of large-scale experimental and clinical studies has increased considerably leading to the development of techniques and their widespread use both in their field and serving as a basis for the combination of even paradoxically incompatible areas of experimental and clinical medicine. The authors consider one of the main objectives of this work to identify a stable correlation between experimental pathomorphological study in ischemic tissue lesion and a therapeutic effect in dermatology in various pathological processes since the fundamental method in both cases is represented by a photochemical effect on the central nervous system and skin. These studies are not only of theoretical value but also of great practical importance both for neurological (search for medicines used to stimulate regenerative processes in ischemic pathology) and dermatological clinical aspects (ablation method of photodynamic therapy for various skin lesions).

The use of ketamine as a recreational drug has become increasingly widespread, particularly amongst teenagers and young men. Its side-effects on the central nervous system and cardiovascular are well established and documented, although it is now clear that ketamine also has significant toxic effects on the genitourinary system. Increasing numbers of patients are presenting to urologists and healthcare professionals with debilitating symptoms attributable to ketamine use, with many clinicians having very little experience of managing patients with this condition. This mini-review aims to provide a contemporary outline of the clinical aspects of ketamine-associated genitourinary toxicity and a summary of management options for treating patients with this often chronic and debilitating condition.

Explaining the biology of dissociative identity disorder and its clinical aspects is one of the major challenges in modern neuroscience. The complexity and the unique nature of this disorder, coupled with insufficient biopsychological models needed for creating universal therapeutic procedures, make the treatment difficult. The vast majority of neuroimaging studies in dissociative identity disorder patients proved to be inconclusive. Abnormalities of particular brain structures do not explain the wide range of symptoms in dissociative identity disorder. Moreover, the findings are partly contradictory. Collecting adequate representative study samples is difficult and most reports are in fact single case studies. On top of that, meta-analyses show that patients with dissociative identity disorder usually present with additional mental problems, which makes interpretation of neuroimaging data extremely difficult. Nowadays, scientific research on dissociative identity disorder focuses on child trauma and its influence on the development of the central nervous system. This article is an overview of recent research on the neurobiology of dissociative identity disorder, with particular emphasis on the impact of childhood trauma on the development of the central nervous system. It focuses on hypotheses attempting to capture the specific dynamics of neural activity leading to neural network fragmentation, and uses the dynamical systems theory to describe this phenomenon.
