Polycrystalline films of tin telluride were prepared by sintering technique. The structural investigation of the films with different thicknesses enables to determine lattice parameter, crystallite size and strain existing in the films. The XRD traces showed that strain was tensile in nature. The crystallite size increases with thickness while strain decreases. Higher the value of tensile strain, larger is the lattice constant. The optical energy gap shows a descending nature with increasing strain and so with the lattice constant. Such an attempt made to delve into interdependence of basic physical quantities helps to explore the properties of SnTe and utilize it as an alternative to heavy metal chalcogenides in various technological applications.

Exact wave solutions of the nonlinear jnagnetohydrodynamic equations for a highly conducting incompressible fluid are obtained for the cases where the physical quantities are independent of one Cartesian co-ordina.te and for where they vary three-dimensionally but both the streamlines and magnetic field lines lie in parallel planes. It is shown that there is a class of exact wave solutions with large amplitude propagating in a straight but non-uniform magnetic field with constant or non-uniform velocity.

AbstractThe work presents a simulation model of a “driver–automation–autonomous vehicles–road” system which is the basis for synthesis of automatic gear shift control system. The mathematical description makes use of physical quantities which characterise driving torque transformation from the combustion engine to the car driven wheels. The basic components of the model are algorithms for the driver’s action logic in controlling motion velocity, logic of gear shift control functioning regarding direction and moment of switching, for determining right-hand side of differential equations and for motion quality indicators. The model is realised in a form of an application software package, comprising sub-programmes for input data, for computerised motion simulation of cars with mechanical and hydro-mechanical – automatically controlled – transmission systems and for models of characteristic car routes.

ABSTRACT Whether tidal disruption events circularize or accrete directly as highly eccentric discs is the subject of current research and appears to depend sensitively on the disc thermodynamics. One aspect of this problem that has not received much attention is that a highly eccentric disc must have a strong, non-hydrostatic variation of the disc scale height around each orbit. As a complement to numerical simulations carried out by other groups, we investigate the dynamical structure of TDE discs using the non-linear theory of eccentric accretion discs. In particular, we study the variation of physical quantities around each elliptical orbit, taking into account the dynamical vertical structure, as well as viscous dissipation and radiative cooling. The solutions include a structure similar to the nozzle-like structure seen in simulations. We find evidence for the existence of the thermal instability in highly eccentric discs dominated by radiation pressure. For thermally stable solutions many of our models indicate a failure of the α-prescription for turbulent stresses. We discuss the consequences of our results for the structure of eccentric TDE discs.

Ground-based remote sensing equipment have the potential to be used for the nowcasting of the tephra hazard from volcanic eruptions. To do so raw data from the equipment first need to be accurately transformed to tephra-related physical quantities. In order to establish these relations for Sakurajima volcano, Japan, we propose a methodology based on high-resolution simulations. An eruption that occurred at Sakurajima on 16 July 2018 is used as the basis of a pilot study. The westwards dispersal of the tephra cloud was ideal for the observation network that has been installed near the volcano. In total, the plume and subsequent tephra cloud were recorded by 2 XMP radars, 1 lidar and 3 optical disdrometers, providing insight on all phases of the eruption, from plume generation to tephra transport away from the volcano. The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and FALL3D models were used to reconstruct the transport and deposition patterns. Simulated airborne tephra concentration and accumulated load were linked, respectively, to lidar backscatter intensity and radar reflectivity. Overall, results highlight the possibility of using such a high-resolution modelling-based methodology as a reliable complementary strategy to common approaches for retrieving tephra-related quantities from remote sensing data.
