ABSTRACTIn order to study the oriented aggregation of BaTiO3nanocrystals in the ultrasound-assisted synthesis in an aqueous solution [F.Dang et al., Jpn.J.Appl.Phys. 48, 09KC02 (2009)], the electric dipole-dipole interaction model has been studied by numerical simulations. The results of the numerical simulations are consistent with the experimental ones if the electric dipole moment of a primary particle (a nanocrystal) of 5 nm in diameter is about 10 D =3.3 x 10-29 (C m). It suggests that a 5-10 nm BaTiO3 nanocrystal synthesized in an aqueous solution with ultrasound has spontaneous polarization.

This paper investigates the effect of tire width to tire-pavement noise. A tire-pavement noise numerical model in the near field has been developed using the three-dimensional finite-element method, and performed in the standard FEM code package ADINA. The model is composed of two main components: a rolling tire pavement interaction model and a sound propagation model. The tire width studied ranged from 180 to 210 mm. The computer simulation model was calibrated and validated using experimental results made available from past research. From the simulation results, it was found that tire width has a noticeable effect on tire-pavement noise. In particular, it was found that tires with wider base were found to produce higher noise levels.

The fluorescence spectrum of a system of strongly driven atoms, contained in a region that is small compared with the wavelength, is calculated using a screened interaction model. Coulomb dipole–dipole interaction is neglected, but a Markov approximation is not made. The side bands at ω′ = ω ± Ω and ω ± 2Ω are investigated in detail (ω′(ω) is the emitted photon (pump field) frequency; Ω is the Rabi frequency). The intensity and line width of the side bands at ω ± 2Ω is reduced owing to S breaking in our model. Non-Markovian corrections split the side band at ω ± Ω.

We have calculated the levitation force and interaction energy between a short magnetic bar and a superconducting cylinder in the Meissner state using the dipole–dipole interaction model. We derived analytical expression of the levitation force acting on the short magnet as a function of the orientation angle of magnetic dipole, and the physical dimensions of the magnet-superconductor system. The effects of the thickness of the superconductor and the length of the magnet on the levitation force were studied.

A model for the local electric field as a linear response to a frequency-dependent external electric field is presented based on a combined charge-transfer and point–dipole interaction force-field model.
