An anthropological and linguistic analysis of the idiom of modern Hindu religious specialists and their followers, an audience which embraces all English speaking Indians and a large segment of the urban populations of India. The highly eclectic, quasi-secular and neo-Hindu ideology inaugurated by such charismatics as Vivekananda, other “Swamis” and interiorized by Indian nationalists, expresses itself in a highly stereotyped coded parlance, informed by Victorian English as well as by diffuse elements which could be described as a Hindu Protestant Ethic. Both systematic and conscious obfuscation of scriptural categories as well as complex but predictable patterns of dissimulation extending over virtually all types of cultural and social discourse—the caste-system, “superstitions,” the “scientific” base of Hinduism, political talk, etc., are adduced and investigated as paradigms of contemporary Indian parlance, which is not the grass-roots idiom, but which is gathering momentum as the forensic instrument of India's leadership and of Indian administrators, educators, and the Indian intellectuals.

The article considers the main stages of the historiography of the ideological and political life of Russia in 1971 – 1991, the authors distinguish two stages of the  historiography  problems:  1971  –  late  1980s  -  the  beginning  of  1990s; end 1980s - the beginning of 1990s - beginning of XXI century. The first stage is characterized by methodological monism. The main attention of researchers was paid to the problems of propaganda of Marxist-Leninist ideology, ideological and political education of Soviet citizens. The second phase of historiography was methodological revolution when there a critical re-evaluation of the historical way the Soviet State had passed took place. The main focus of historical research during Perestroika was on such problems as: dissidence, protest movement, the activities of informal organizations. The article analyzes the historiography of dissidence and concludes that researchers created a scientific base that can serve as a basis for further study of this topic.

The problems of accelerating the transition of Russian enterprises to innovative economy are considered. The structure of new factors constraining the transition of the Russian economy to innovative development is revealed, and their analysis is carried out. A number of significant shortcomings of the scientific base of innovative investment management have been identified. New categories of innovative investments and pseudo-investments based on a strategic approach and classification of investments are proposed. The way and recommendations for resolving one of the most important contradiction between business and the state on the choice of ways and of sources of innovative investment are proposed.

The development and implementation of the strategy has long been the focus of scientists and practitioners. But, despite the extensive scientific Arsenal, the tasks facing economic managers do not become easier. In many ways, this situation is due to the fact that in the face of growing uncertainty, which is typical for any, both developed and developing markets, it is increasingly difficult to imagine the «image of the future» and formulate the strategy goals to subordinate the company’s activities to the achievement of these very goals. In a sense, the correct formulation of the problem of long-term development can serve as a foresight, which is used to identify factors that can have an impact on the economy and society in the medium and long term. However, what is the connection of foresight with the setting of goals of the strategy of the industrial enterprise and the choice of mechanisms for the implementation of the chosen strategy – these questions require answers, without which the scientific base of strategic management will not be complete. An attempt is made to find an answer to the question of what hinders industrial development under conditions when the scale of technological modernization is not accompanied by a change in the structure of production. The solution to this problem is proposed to be sought in institutional transformations, on the basis of a theoretical understanding of the laws that determine the technological development of modern industry and the application of the methods of the theory of artificial intelligence systems. The proposed approaches of economic and technological development of territories, states, industries and individual industrial enterprises will allow the most effective financing of investment programs for industrial development.

The beginning of restoration works on a scientific base in Turkey dates back on 1933 when a specific committee for the protection of monuments (Anıtları Koruma Komisyonu) was officially appointed by the Ministry of Education. The preliminary working phase, carried on under the direction of this committee, was soon distinguished by the clear attempt to visualize the results in order to cast the monuments as national icons. The present paper's aim is to discuss this process of visualization focusing on the case study of a series of works realized in Edime from 1933 to 1944. Apart from the historical value of monuments included in the protection program, the study explores the ideological side of these works stressing their value as a pioneering enterprise of a modem nation that celebrated its emerging culture in the protection and preservation of monuments as a sign of progress and civilization. Edirne's restoration works in fact arouse a great deal of interest in the national press, becoming the best show-case for the effort of the Ministry. By this point of view the study focuses on the key-role played by the Turkish Historical Society in the construction of a visual narrative in the attempt to disseminate the result of these works. In particular the efforts of the Turkish Historical Society in advertising the scheduled interventions found their outlet in the editing of a set of postcards displaying Edirne's historical buildings. The result is a series of powerful images in which a number of buildings are re-casted as the first cultural-historical assets of the Turkish nation. The construction of this visual material was set according to a powerful aesthetic format, clear and instantly recognizable, in order to assure an immediate public reception of the historical heritage of the country. The collection of these images stands as a prime contribution in the construction of the national identity of the country thanks to the production of a collective visual heritage, that, on the ground of an effective popular aesthetics, was able to feature the idea of nation as a landscape of monuments.

In recent years, as the international community pays increasing attention to disaster prevention and reduction, study on vulnerability has become a new focus in the science of disaster, and it gradually becomes a consideration in strategy-making for sustainable social development. Understanding of vulnerability has become a prerequisite for grasping the nature of disasters, and it is also an area where humans can make a difference in disaster prevention and mitigation. Based on historical disasters and the concepts of vulnerability, this study applies the CCR model, one of the most basic Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models, to analyze the pattern of variation regarding agricultural vulnerability to floods in Shanghai suburban areas. The results prove the following: chronologically, the overall vulnerability degrees of Shanghai suburbs listed in the descending order are [Formula: see text]; spatially, based on the averages recorded in 2013, the vulnerability levels of Shanghai suburban districts are Nanhui [Formula: see text] Jinshan [Formula: see text] Songjiang [Formula: see text] Baoshan [Formula: see text] Qingpu [Formula: see text] Pudong [Formula: see text] Jiading [Formula: see text] Fengxian. The results are basically consistent with the fact. Based on the characteristics of each district’s vulnerability to floods, some suggestions for flood prevention and mitigation are provided. The assessment models of flood vulnerability are simple and can be used for vulnerability analysis of natural disasters at regional or national levels. The assessment method adopted in this paper contributes to a deeper understanding of agricultural vulnerability to floods in Shanghai and provides a scientific base for the decision-making of related departments.

Based on the principle of thermal expansion and theory of virtual work, a class of equations for in-plane displacements at three freedom direction and internal forces in the cross-section of statically indeterminate curved beams under thermo load are derived explicitly. In the case of infinite limit of radius, these equations coincide with that of the straight beams. Compared with the results of FEM, the analytical solutions by the proposed formulae are accurate. The analytical solutions obtained in this paper would provide a scientific base for further study and design of the curved bridges.
