The metal transfer process with different welding parameters in rotating arc narrow gap horizontal welding is successfully observed by the high-speed photography system. The effects of wire rotating frequency on metal transfer process in rotating arc narrow gap horizontal welding are novelly explored. The metal transfer with different wire rotating frequency presents different modes. The results indicate that the droplet transfer has stable process with the rotating frequency of 5-20 Hz. And the weld formation is quite shapely. But with the high rotating frequency of 50 Hz, the metal transfer process is not acceptable and the weld formation is very pool. Metal transfer process is one of the most important factors of effecting the weld formation in rotating arc horizontal welding process besides the molten pool behavior and welding thermal circles.

By means of the high speed camera, the arc and drop transfer behaviours of direct current electrode negative MAG welding process are researched. The influences of luminous arc ball on the stability of MAG welding process are analyzed. On this basis, the process interval of DCEN MAG welding is determined. And the influences of wire polarity on wire melting coefficient are compared. By using the shield gas 98%Ar + 2%O2, the stable drop transfer manner can be divided into two kinds: dropwise transfer with low current, and streaming transfer with high current.

Abstract the purpose of this project was to introduce a way to improve the mechanical properties of welded dissimilar material, which gives benefits such as affordable, high speed, and suitable bond property. In this experimental project, the friction welding method has been applied, including combining parameters, such as numerical control (NC) machine including two different speeds, and three different cross-sections; including flat, cone, and step surfaces. When the welding process was done, samples were implemented and prepared via bending test of materials. the results have shown that, besides increasing the machining velocity, the surface friction increased, and so did the temperature. By considering the stated experimental facts, the melting temperature of composite materials has increased. This provides the possibility of having a better blend of nanomaterial compared to the base melted plastics. Thus, the result showed that, besides increasing the weight percentage (wt %) of Nanomaterials contents and machining velocity, the mechanical properties have increased on the welded area for all three types of samples. This enhancement is due to the better melting process on the welded area with attendance of various Nanoparticles contents. Also, the results showed that the shape of the welding area could play a significant role, and the results also change drastically where the shape changes. Optimum shape in the welding process has been dedicated to the step surface. The temperature causes the melting process, which is a significant factor in the friction welding process.

A process evaluation system for pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW-P) based on the LabVIEW platform has been developed. This system is comprised of two modules, a simultaneous display module and a data analysis module. Using these modules, the system can not only provide a comprehensive direct viewing display of the welding electric signal and high speed camera photo, but also can analyze the characteristic parameters of the welding process. The results show that the system works properly.

The friction stir welding process (friction stir welding/processing, FSW/FSP) has wear problems related to stirring tools. In this study, the plasma transfer arc (PTA) method was used with stellite 1 powders (Co-based) to coat on the head of a SKD61 stirring tool (SKD61-ST1) in order to investigate the wear performance and phase transformation of SKD61-ST1 after FSW. Under the same experimental parameters, the wear data were compared with the high-speed steel SKH51 (tempering material SKH51-T and annealed material SKH51-A) and tungsten-carbide cobalt (TCC). Results showed the PTA coating was a γ-Co solidification matrix with M7C3 and M23C6 carbides. After FSW, the wear resistance of SKD61-ST1 was better than that of SKH51-A and SKH51-T and lower than that of TCC. The SKD61-ST1, SKH51-A, and SKH51-T stirring tools exhibited sliding wear after FSP, where the pin and shoulder of the stirring tool formed a phase transfer layer on the surface, and the peeling of the phase transfer layer caused wear weight loss. The main phase of the phase transfer layer of the SKD61-ST1 tool was Al9Co2. The affinity and adhesion energy of the Co-Al phase was lower than that of Fe-Al phase, and the phase transfer layer of the SKD61-ST1 tool was thinner and had lower coverage, thereby increasing the wear resistance of the SKD61-ST1 stirring tools during FSW.

The cold metal transfer (CMT) with addition of pulses (CMT[Formula: see text]P) process is a new CMT welding method. This paper uses a high-speed camera and electrical signal synchronization acquisition system to perform a CMT[Formula: see text]P welding test on a 10 mm thick Q235 steel plate, and performs arc characteristic and droplet transfer behavior in the welding process. It has been founded that under relatively small currents and voltages, the CMT[Formula: see text]P transfer mode is a combination of a projected transfer mode with one droplet in the pulse period and a short circuit transfer mode during the CMT period. The process is stable with little spatter; at relatively large currents and voltages, the transition mode is the combination of pulse transfer, spray transfer and short circuit transfer. It results in one or more droplets that enter the pool both in pulse transfer in the spray transfer mode during the pulse period and in the short circuit transfer mode during the CMT period in a weld cycle.
