It has been shown in the past that the real part of the ∊′/∊ ratio is particularly sensitive to anomalous gauge couplings that modify the Standard Model Lagrangian. Due to the loose bounds on these couplings coming from low energy processes and to the poor sensitivity of hadron colliders to couplings such as [Formula: see text], it has been argued that anomalous couplings could still produce an enhancement of Re ∊′/∊ bringing this observable closer to the experimental value obtained by KTeV, NA31 and NA48. The impact of the new measurements done at LEP2 in these years is discussed and new severe constraints to this hypothesis are determined.

Minimal Supersymmetric Extension

In the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, we discuss the impact of the decays of the neutral Higgs bosons into supersymmetric particles, charginos/neutralinos and sfermions. We show that these decay modes could be dominant, when they are kinematically accessible, thus strongly suppressing the branching ratios for the decay channels which are used to detect the Higgs bosons at hadron colliders. These SUSY decay modes should therefore not be overlooked in the search for the Higgs particles at the LHC.

The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle. Observed for the first time in 1995 at the Tevatron by the CDF and D0 experiments, it has become object of several studies aimed to fully characterize its properties and decays. Precise determinations of top quark characteristics verify the internal consistency of the Standard Model (SM) and are sensitive to new physics phenomena. With the advent of the large top quark production rates generated at the LHC, top quark studies have reached unprecedented statistical precision. This review summarizes the recent measurements of top quark properties and studies of its decays performed at the LHC and Tevatron.

We investigate an extension of the Standard Model with one additional triplet of scalar bosons. Altogether, the model contains four Higgs bosons. We analyze the associated production of the doubly charged scalar with the Standard Model gauge bosons and the remaining Higgs bosons of the model, which are: the light (SM) and heavy neutral scalars and a singly charged scalar. We estimate, in the context of the present (HL–LHC) and future (FCC–hh) hadron colliders, the most promising processes in which a single produced doubly charged Higgs boson is involved.

At the 1958 meeting of our society, then known as EMSA, the author introduced the concept of microspace and suggested its use to provide adequate information storage space and the use of electron microscope techniques to provide storage and retrieval access. At this current meeting of MSA, he wishes to suggest an additional use of the power of the electron microscope.The author has been contemplating this new use for some time and would have suggested it in the EMSA fiftieth year commemorative volume, but for page limitations. There is compelling reason to put forth this suggestion today because problems have arisen in the “Standard Model” of particle physics and funds are being greatly reduced just as we need higher energy machines to resolve these problems. Therefore, any techniques which complement or augment what we can accomplish during this austerity period with the machines at hand is worth exploring.
