Globalization and advances in technology have created a context where knowledge changes and circulates faster than ever. In high-performance sport coaching, coaches increasingly move from country to country to join national teams – becoming ‘migrant coaches’. From a coach development perspective, it becomes relevant to investigate how coaches from different countries learn to coach and what would be their ideal sources of knowledge acquisition. Unfortunately, there is a major gap in the English literature regarding Asian coaches. Thus, a study with Chinese gymnastics (Gym) and rhythmic gymnastics (R-Gym) coaches has been conducted. Eighty coaches completed a questionnaire on their actual and ideal sources of knowledge acquisition; 16 of these were interviewed. Data show that the coaches acquired their knowledge (actual) mainly through ‘being an athlete’ and ‘having a mentor’. Ideally, they would like to have a better balance between these two sources and formal learning situations (courses, seminars, etc.). Another key finding is the barrier resulting from the lack of English knowledge, which is an important limit for Chinese coaches wishing to gather information from abroad, especially through the Internet.

The Chapter discusses the need and the problems associated with WEB based cooperative activities in which several team members work in parallel on a common task. Models for software systems supporting such cooperative activities are discussed. Our models describe structure of the cooperation object, cooperation modes and the network message synchronization, that are of prime importance when the system members work at different places and communicate over the Internet. We introduce and describe a component requirements graph and show how to translate it into an interaction graph. The state diagrams and the design graphs are the basis for the WEB software design. The discussion of software architecture for implementing cooperative activities over the Web is also provided.

Information technology has drastically changed the ways in which individuals are accounted for and monitored in societies. Over the past two decades, the United States and other countries worldwide have seen a tremendous increase in the number of individuals with access to the Internet. Data collected by the World Bank shows that 17.5 of every 100 people in the world had access to the Internet in 2006, and this number increased to 23.2 in 2008, 29.5 in 2010, and 32.8 in 2011 (World Bank 2012). According to the latest Cisco traffic report, Internet traffic exceeded 30 exabytes (1018 bytes) per month in 2011 and is expected to reach a zettabyte (1021 bytes) per month by 2015 (Cisco Systems 2011). Activities on the Web are no longer limited to seemingly noncontroversial practices like e-mail. The sheer growth of the Internet as a medium for communication and information sharing as well as the development of large, high-performance data centers have made it easier and less expensive for companies and governments to aggregate large amounts of data generated by individuals. Today, many people’s personal lives can be pieced together relatively easily according to their search histories and the information that they provide on social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Therefore, technological breakthroughs associated with computing raise important questions regarding information security and the role of privacy in society. As individuals begin using the Internet for e-commerce, e-government, and a variety of other services, data about their activities has been collected and stored by entities in both the public and private sectors. For the private sector, consumer activities on the Internet provide lucrative information about user spending habits that can then be used to generate targeted advertisements. Companies have developed business models that rely on the sale of such information to third-party entities, whether they are other companies or the federal government. As for the public sector, data collection occurs through any exchange a government may have with its citizens.

Smart home is one of the most promising applications of the Internet of Things. Although there have been studies about this technology in recent years, the adoption rate of smart homes is still low. One of the largest barriers is technological fragmentation within the smart home ecosystem. Currently, there are many protocols used in a connected home, increasing the confusion of consumers when choosing a product for their house. One possible solution for this fragmentation is to make a gateway to handle the diverse protocols as a central hub in the home. However, this solution brings about another issue for manufacturers: compatibility. Because of the various smart devices on the market, supporting all possible devices in one gateway is also an enormous challenge. In this paper, we propose a software architecture for a gateway in a smart home system to solve the compatibility problem. By creating a mechanism to dynamically download and update a device profile from a server, the gateway can easily handle new devices. Moreover, the proposed gateway also supports unified control over heterogeneous networks. We implemented a prototype to prove the feasibility of the proposed gateway architecture and evaluated its performance from the viewpoint of message execution time over heterogeneous networks, as well as the latency for device profile downloads and updates, and the overhead needed for handling unknown commands.

With the popularity and development of the network, the support of the high-performance computer technology becomes increasingly important as the huge information storage and the convenience of Information retrieval function of the internet that attracts more and more people join the netizens team. Therefore, I proposed an Information Processing Platform based on the high performance data mining in order to improve the Internet mass information intelligence parallel processing functions and the integrated development of the systems information storage, management, integration, intelligence processing, data mining and utilization. The propose of this system is to provide certain references and guidance for the technology implementation and realization of the high performance and high efficiency network massive Information Processing Platform as on the one hand, I have analyzed the key technology of the implementation of the platform, on the other hand briefly introduced the implementation of the RDIDC.

This paper describes a system to distribute and retrieve multimedia knowledge on a cluster of heterogeneous high performance architectures distributed over the Internet. The knowledge is represented using facts and rules in an associative logic-programming model. Associative computation facilitates distribution of facts and rules, and exploits coarse grain data parallel computation. Associative logic programming uses a flat data model that can be easily mapped onto heterogeneous architectures. The paper describes an abstract instruction set for the distributed version of the associative logic programming and the corresponding implementation. The implementation uses a message-passing library for architecture independence within a cluster, uses object oriented programming for modularity and portability, and uses Java as a front-end interface to provide a graphical user interface and multimedia capability and remote access via the Internet. The performance results on a cluster of IBM RS 6000 workstations are presented. The results show that distribution of data improves the performance almost linearly for small number of processors in a cluster.
