The single-factor evaluation method, improved Nemerow index method, fuzzy mathematical synthesis evaluation method and comprehensive nutrient status index method were used to evaluate the water quality of the Zijiang River in summer, and to analyze the applicability of the evaluation methods. The results show that: (1) The Zijiang River is heavily polluted with nitrogen and TN is the main pollutant in the summer. The overall nutrient status index is 34.33, which is not eutrophic. (2) The single-factor evaluation method is simple and suitable for rapid identification of excessive pollutants, but cannot reflect the water quality. the Nemerow index method takes into account the weight of each evaluation factor in the river water quality, and is suitable for making a comprehensive evaluation of the river water quality, but has a certain degree of subjectivity when classifying the water quality. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is suitable for reflecting the influence of different evaluation factors on water quality by calculating the weight and membership degree of each evaluation factor, but the calculation is complicated. The Integrated Nutrient Status Index method is suitable for determining whether eutrophication is occurring in a water body and cannot determine the water quality category.

The limitations of water quality management and assessment methods in China can be ascertained by comparison with other countries. However, it is unreasonable to use a uniform standard to evaluate water quality throughout China because one standard cannot fully account for the regional differences in background water quality. This study aimed to provide a basis for environmental water management decision-making. Areas seriously affected by background pollutants were identified by comparing several factors across 31 provinces in China. By coupling an improved export coefficient model (ECM) with a mechanistic model, a suitable pollutant yield coefficient was determined and its rationality was analysed. The export coefficient model was applied to estimate the pollutant (chemical oxygen demand and ammonia nitrogen) output of the basin in 2015. The spatial distribution characteristics of the pollutants were determined by simulating the pollutant outputs of 22 sub-basins and nine water function zones. For the year 2020, the simulation results of pollutant outputs far exceed the sewage discharge limit in water function zones and the pollutant concentration was much higher than the standard. Considering background pollutant outputs, more reasonable sewage discharge limit and water quality evaluation method are proposed.

Water pollution is a worldwide problem that needs to be solved urgently and has a significant impact on the efficiency of sustainable cities. The evaluation of water pollution is a Multiple Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problem and using a MCDM model can help control water pollution and protect human health. However, different evaluation methods may obtain different results. How to effectively coordinate them to obtain a consensus result is the main aim of this work. The purpose of this article is to develop an ensemble learning evaluation method based on the concept of water quality to help policy-makers better evaluate surface water quality. A valid application is conducted to illustrate the use of the model for the surface water quality evaluation problem, thus demonstrating the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed model.

In order to establish a rapid evaluation method of steel slag cementitious activity, extraction test of steel slag in EDTA-NaOH solution have been investigated and the relationship between extraction characteristics and cementitious activity expressed as mortar strength has been analyzed. Results show that the linear relationship between the quantity extracted from steel slag and the mortar compressive strength is significant. According to the analysis results of mineral composition and microscopic morphologies, EDTA-NaOH solution can selectively extract the silicate and aluminate minerals of steel slag, which could be used as a rapid evaluation method of steel slag cementitious activity.
