AbstractMental health services are placing a greater emphasis on wellbeing and recovery. The current research investigated if positive psychology interventions (PPIs) increase peoples’ subjective wellbeing and reduce clinical depression. A systematic methodological review was conducted on randomized-control-trials with people attending clinical services. Five databases were searched. A hand search was then completed on the reference lists of the identified articles and the associated journals. Eleven research interventions were reviewed. PPIs were found to significantly increase wellbeing, relative to controls and there were fewer studies indicating a difference in decreasing depression. However, subsequent analysis revealed that the interventions were heterogeneous which limits the drawing of definitive systematic conclusions. A methodological evaluation also found that there were recurring issues: in delivering the interventions, measuring subjective wellbeing, and applying the design. Thus, the methodological quality of the research interventions, as measured by the current review was low. There is emerging evidence that PPIs improve peoples’ mental health. However, there is scope to standardize and to improve the quality of the research interventions.

Background Digital instantiations of positive psychology intervention (PPI) principles have been proposed to combat the current global youth mental health crisis; however, young people are largely not engaging with available resources. Objective The aim of this study is to explore young people’s attitudes toward various PPI principles to find ways of making digital instantiations of them more engaging. Methods We conducted an explorative workshop with 30 young people (aged 16-21 years). They rated and reviewed 29 common PPIs. Ratings and recorded discussions were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results Some interventions were conflicting with young people’s values or perceived as too difficult. Participants responded positively to interventions that fit them personally and allowed them to use their strengths. Conclusions Values, context, strengths, and other personal factors are entangled with young people’s attitudes toward digital instantiations of PPI principles.

Abstract Background: Young people are vulnerable to experiencing problematic levels of loneliness which can lead to poor mental health outcomes. Loneliness is a malleable treatment target and preliminary evidence has shown that it can be addressed with digital platforms. Peer Tree is a strengths-based digital smartphone application aimed at reducing loneliness. The study aim is to reduce loneliness, and assess the acceptability, usability, and feasibility of Peer Tree in young people enrolled at university. Methods: This will be a pilot randomised controlled trial (RCT) comparing a strengths-based digital smartphone application (Peer Tree) with a treatment as usual (TAU) condition. Forty-two young people enrolled at university will be recruited for this pilot RCT. Participants with suicidality risk, acute psychiatric symptoms in the past month, or a current diagnosis of a mood or social anxiety disorder will be excluded. Allocation will be made on a 1:1 ratio and will occur after the initial baseline assessment. Assessments are completed at baseline, post-intervention, and at follow-up. Participants in the TAU condition complete the same three assessment sessions. The primary outcomes of the study will be self-reported loneliness as well as the acceptability, usability, feasibility and safety of Peer Tree. Depression, social anxiety, and quality of life variables will also be measured as secondary outcomes. Discussion: This trial will report the findings of implementing Peer Tree, a smartphone application aimed at reducing loneliness in university students. Findings from this trial will highlight the initial efficacy, acceptability and feasibility of using digital positive psychology interventions to reduce subthreshold mental health concerns. Findings from this trial will also describe the safety of Peer Tree as a digital tool. Results will contribute evidence for positive psychology interventions to address mental ill-health.Trial registration: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trial Registry, ACTRN12619000350123. As clinical psychology becomes a more integrative discipline, the introduction of positive psychology in the clinical realm has been a new promising trend. Several positive interventions to treat mental health difficulties have been recently developed, aiming to promote therapeutic change by facilitating increased well-being. The aim of this paper is to review the conceptual trajectories of positive psychology in the clinical domain throughout the last twenty years and to provide a comprehensive perspective toward a positive psychology-oriented psychotherapy. Current positive psychology theoretical, empirical, and practical insights are provided to illustrate how the integration of positive psychology in the clinical environment is theoretically and practically useful as well as scientifically valid. Clinical research evidence of the contemporary theories of well-being and self-determination is presented along with the most recent empirical findings on the efficacy of positive psychology interventions in the mental health system. Examples of evidence-based positive psychology interventions further exemplify the ways of integrating positive psychology treatments into clinical practice. Such a synthesis of the evidence regarding the outcomes of positive clinical interventions can expand the research and practice of clinical psychology and may contribute to broadening the role of clinical psychologists in promoting well-being along with treating distress.

The attitudes of mental health workers toward individuals with mental health conditions can impact the quality of care they provide. Negative attitudes among mental health workers seem particularly common in response to people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). The current review aimed to identify and review the literature regarding mental health workers’ attitudes toward individuals diagnosed with BPD, specifically focusing on studies comparing workers’ attitudes toward BPD with attitudes toward other mental health diagnoses. The findings suggest that mental health workers have more negative attitudes toward individuals labeled as having BPD than toward individuals with other diagnoses, such as depression. This is likely due to factors associated with the label itself, in addition to workers’ perceptions of BPD symptoms and previous experiences of delivering treatment. The implications of these findings are considered, with a particular focus on how mental health services can effectively address negative attitudes toward BPD.

Forgiveness is a very important positive force that exists within a person so as not to always be trapped in a negative emotional state which can proceed to release all negative emotions such as feelings of anger, feelings of hatred, hurt and even the desire to take revenge for others. how others treat us. Forgiveness is also included in a concept contained in the study of positive psychology which according to Martin Seligman that positive psychology does not only focus on a person's weakness or mental illness but also focuses on the positive strengths possessed by each person to regulate these negative emotions into a positive emotion. One way to develop yourself is by forgiving. Forgiveness has a very important role in a person's mental health, where when an individual is having feelings of anger, hurt, disappointment, and feelings of hatred towards others, this can increase the negative emotions that exist within the individual which can later cause stress. frustration, sadness and even the desire to take revenge against someone because they have harbored these negative emotions for too long which are eventually released with revenge. Forgiveness is very important because forgiving is a way to release all negative emotions that exist in a person and when successfully released it will have positive impacts that can be felt by the person, especially the positive impact on his mental health, which forgiveness will create feelings a person becomes more relieved, feels better, and the mood becomes calmer and more comfortable, therefore forgiveness is very important to do. The purpose of thr journal writing is, 1) to understand the concept of forgiveness within positive psychology, 2) understanding the relationship between forgivrness and mental health, 3) understanding the importance of forgiveness toward mental health.Descriptive qualitative writing method used in this study is to describe several important concepts that will be discussed so that they are clearer and easier to understand. The results of the study show that people who always forgive will make themselves calmer and make the quality of their lives better because basically forgiveness has a very clear urgency, especially in a person's mental health condition.
