Objective: To assess the effect of the dimensions and tolerances of three-piece bogies of freight cars with a maximum static axle load of 23,5 tf when they are released from scheduled repair on the wheel flange wear in operation. Methods: For this purpose, drawing on a review and analysis of the literature in the field of wheel-rail system wear and the current requirements of guidelines for the repair of freight cars and their parts, design cases were formed to simulate a railway crew movement along a track of various designs with operating speeds, and the processes of wheel flange wear were studied using simulation computer modeling in the environment of the “Universal Mechanism” software package. Results: The parameters of freight car bogies which have the greatest impact on wheel wear have been determined. The quantitative values of the indicators of wheel wear for various cases of crew movement have been determined. The ways of reducing the wear of car wheels in operation by changing the dimensions and tolerances of bogies when they are released from scheduled types of repair are shown. Practical importance: The obtained results of the work commissioned by JSC “First Freight Company”are currently used to formulate requirements for the dimensions and tolerances of bogies when they are released from repair in order to establish the optimal parameters that would help to reduce the wheel flange wear in operation. In addition, they can be used in the developing new designs of freight car bogies.

In this paper, photometric analysis of two short period group of the eclipsing binaries (RS CVn); RT And and BH Vir is presented. New physical and geometric parameters were obtained by performing two computer modeling. The first model is software package PHOEBE based on the Wilson–Devinney method, and the second is Binary Maker 3 (BM3).Our results are in good agreement with those obtained using the same modeling.

It is possible to increase the efficiency of the nuclear power plants equipment in various ways. In particular, one of the most relevant is the active use of computer modeling at different stages of work. The effectiveness the software package used directly affects the quality of the installation equipment. Depending on the stage at which the software package is used, it has various priority properties for the most effective application.

Power analysis and computer modeling of moving the telescopic boom rope mechanism using the “Universal Mechanism” software package, considering the mechanical characteristics of the ropes, boom sections and their contact interaction, have been carried out. The dependences for calculating the preliminary tension of the ropes are obtained, the regularities of operating the cable mechanism of the crane telescopic boom are established.

Off-axis electron holography has the well known ability to preserve the complex image wave within the final, recorded image. This final image described by I(x,y) = I(r) contains contributions from the image intensity of the elastically scattered electrons IeI (r) = |A(r) exp (iΦ(r)) |, the contributions from the inelastically scattered electrons IineI (r), and the complex image wave Ψ = A(r) exp(iΦ(r)) as:(1) I(r) = IeI (r) + Iinel (r) + μ A(r) cos(2π Δk r + Φ(r))where the constant μ describes the contrast of the interference fringes which are related to the spatial coherence of the electron beam, and Φk is the resulting vector of the difference of the wavefront vectors of the two overlaping beams. Using a software package like HoloWorks, the complex image wave Ψ can be extracted.

For the calculation of X-ray intensities emitted by elements present in multi-layer systems it is vital to have an accurate knowledge of the x-ray ionization vs. mass-depth (ϕ(ρz)) curves as a function of accelerating voltage and atomic number of films and substrate. Once this knowledge is available the way is open to the analysis of thin films in which both the thicknesses as well as the compositions can usually be determined simultaneously. Our bulk matrix correction “PROZA” with its proven excellent performance for a wide variety of applications (e.g., ultra-light element analysis, extremes in accelerating voltage) has been used as the basis for the development of the software package discussed here. The PROZA program is based on our own modifications of the surface-centred Gaussian ϕ(ρz) model, originally introduced by Packwood and Brown. For its extension towards thin film applications it is required to know how the 4 Gaussian parameters α, β, γ and ϕ(o) for each element in each of the films are affected by the film thickness and the presence of other layers and the substrate.

We present a new concept of the thermoelectric structure that generates microwave and terahertz signals when illuminated by femtosecond optical pulses. The structure consists of a series array of capacitively coupled thermocouples. The array acts as a hybrid type microwave transmission line with anomalous dispersion and phase velocity higher than the velocity of light. This allows for adding up the responces from all the thermocouples in phase. The array is easily integrable with microstrip transmission lines. Dispersion curves obtained from both the lumped network scheme and numerical simulations are presented. The connection of the thermocouples is a composite right/left-handed transmission line, which can receive terahertz radiation from the transmission line ports. The radiation of the photon to the surface of the thermocouple structure causes a voltage difference with the bandwidth of terahertz. We examined a lossy composite right/left-handed transmission line to extract the circuit elements. The calculated properties of the design are extracted by employing commercial software package CST STUDIO SUITE.
