Background The bidirectional relationship between health behavior and subjective well-being has previously been studied sparsely, and mainly for individual health behaviors and regression models. In the present study, we deepen this knowledge focusing on the four principal health behaviors and using structural equation modeling with selected covariates. Methods The follow-up data (n = 11,804) was derived from a population-based random sample of working-age Finns from two waves (2003 and 2012) of the Health and Social Support (HeSSup) postal survey. Structural equation modeling was used to study the cross-sectional, cross-lagged, and longitudinal relationships between the four principal health behaviors and subjective well-being at baseline and after the nine-year follow-up adjusted for age, gender, education, and self-reported diseases. The included health behaviors were physical activity, dietary habits, alcohol consumption, and smoking status. Subjective well-being was measured through four items comprising happiness, interest, and ease in life, and perceived loneliness. Results Bidirectionally, only health behavior in 2003 predicted subjective well-being in 2012, whereas subjective well-being in 2003 did not predict health behavior in 2012. In addition, the cross-sectional interactions in 2003 and in 2012 between health behavior and subjective well-being were statistically significant. The baseline levels predicted their respective follow-up levels, the effect being stronger in health behavior than in subjective well-being. Conclusion The four principal health behaviors together predict subsequent subjective well-being after an extensive follow-up. Although not particularly strong, the results could still be used for motivation for health behavior change, because of the beneficial effects of health behavior on subjective well-being.

This research extended current positive psychological research by investigating the mediating effect of shyness on the association between optimism, psychological vulnerability and subjective well-being. Two hundred fifty-five volunteer university students (131 females and 124 males, mean age = 23.14) participated in the study. The structural equation modeling revealed shyness fully mediated the effect of psychological vulnerability on subjective well-being, while shyness partially mediated the effect of optimism on subjective well-being. Also, bootstrapping procedures confirmed that psychological vulnerability was indirectly associated with subjective well-being through shyness, whereas optimism was directly associated with subjective well-being. The implications for future studies and the limitations of the study were discussed in the context of the relevant literature.

I explored how trait gratitude affects subjective well-being and whether this relationship is mediated by the fulfillment of basic psychological needs. Participants were 481 Chinese undergraduate students, who responded to measures of trait gratitude, basic psychological needs fulfillment, and subjective well-being (SWB). The results revealed that trait gratitude, fulfillment of basic psychological needs, and SWB were significantly correlated with each other. Further, structural equation modeling results indicated that trait gratitude was a significant predictor of SWB, and this effect was partially mediated by the fulfillment of basic psychological needs. My findings provide new insight into the mechanism of how gratitude can promote SWB.

The present study examined the relationship between expressing emotions, psychological resilience and subjective well-being. The study was carried out with a total of 217 university students, of whom 94 were males and 123 were females, aged between 19 and 25 years. The data of the study were collected using the Emotional Expression Questionnaire, the Psychological Resilience Scale and the Subjective Well-Being Scale, respectively. The relationship between the variables of the study was analyzed via the methods of Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Structural Equation Modeling, and the mediating role of psychological resilience between emotional expression and subjective well-being was tested. The goodness-of-fit indices obtained from the structural equation modeling indicated that the model generated a good fit. According to the results, there was a significant relationship between “expressing emotions” and “psychological resilience” and between “psychological resilience” and “subjective well-being”. It was found that there was no significant relationship between expressing emotions and subjective well-being and that the variable of expressing emotions affected that of subjective well-being by means of the psychological resilience (tool) variable and the model tested was significant.

Objectives: To examine self-esteem in college students who participate in physical education (PE), the influence of psychological trends on self-esteem, and the possible influence of passion. Motivations: This study aims to determine whether passion affects participants’ self-esteem and psychological well-being. Methods: Subjects included 183 students enrolled in university PE classes (46 men and 137 women) with an average age of 19.58 (SD = 6.19). Self-esteem, passion, and psychological well-being were measured using a fuzzy questionnaire and descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling were performed through fuzzy statistical analysis. Findings: 1. The self-esteem, passion, and psychological well-being scales had good reliability and validity. 2. The model’s dimensional goodness of fit was satisfactory (χ2 = 281.601(182) = 1.952, GFI = 0.863, AGFI = 0.821, RMSEA = 0.072, SRMR = 0.649, TLI [NNFI] = 0.918, IFI = 0.925, CFI = 0.942). 3. Passion had a direct influence on well-being and an indirect influence on self-esteem. Well-being had a direct influence on self-esteem. Innovations: The passion scale and psychological well-being scale were confirmed to have good reliability and validity. The new method of fuzzy statistical analysis used in this study provides new research techniques for investigation and research into psychological trends in the field of sports. Value: In the teaching process, PE teachers should encourage students’ passion for participation to better their psychological well-being and self-esteem.

Háttér és célkitűzésekA Mentális Egészség Két-kontinuum Modellje a mentális egészség pozitív összetevőit, a szubjektív jóllét komponenseit összegzi. Vizsgálatunkban a modell alapján létrehozott Mentális Egészség Kontinuum Skála rövid változatának (rövid MEKS) pszichometriai mutatóit és faktorszerkezetét teszteltük hazai felnőtt egyetemista mintán.Módszer552 egyetemista (71,5% nő, átlagéletkor = 22,09 év, szórás = 3,66) vett részt a keresztmetszeti elrendezésű vizsgálatban, akiket a következő kérdőívek kitöltésére kértünk: Mentális Egészség Kontinuum Skála - rövid változat; Majdnem Tökéletes Skála - rövid változat; Depresszió, Szorongás és Stressz Kérdőív - rövid változat (DASS-21); Kognitív Érzelem Reguláció Kérdőív - rövid változat és Big Five Személyiség- leltár-2 (BFI-2).EredményekA Mentális Egészség Kontinuum Skála rövid változatának a tételek kereszttöltéseit is megengedő (Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling, ESEM) bifaktoros szerkezetét erősítettük meg: a globális szubjektív jóllét faktor erős jelenléte mellett az eredeti szerző, Corey L. M. Keyes által leírt három specifikus (érzelmi, pszichológiai és társas) jóllét faktor is megerősítést nyert. A bifaktoros ESEM modell nemi invarianciáját is sikerült igazolnunk. A mérőeszköz megbízhatósági eredményei kiválóak (ω = 0,79-0,92 között), ahogyan validitása is bizonyítást nyert: az elvártaknak megfelelően a pozitív mentális egészség mutatók (teljes rövid MEKS és alskálái) a depresszív, a szorongásos és a stressz tünetekkel, valamint az önkritikus, maladaptív perfekcionizmussal fordított irányú együtt járást mutatnak, míg az adaptív kognitív érzelemregulációs stratégiákkal és az alkalmazkodást segítő személyiségvonásokkal (barátságosság, lelkiismeretesség, érzelmi stabilitás, extraverzió) pozitív kapcsolatban állnak.KövetkeztetésekEredményeink szerint egy valid, a szubjektív jóllét szintet globálisan és annak egyes területeit is megbízhatóan mérő önkitöltős kérdőívet tudtunk bevezetni a magyar tesztállományba. Background and aimsThe Two Continua Model of Mental Health summarizes the positive components of mental health. Our aim was to test the psychometric characteristics and the factor structure of the Hungarian version of the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF), a measurement based on the Two Continua Model of Mental Health, among Hungarian university students.Methods552 university students (71.5% women, mean age = 22.09, SD = 3,66) took part in the cross-sectional research. Respondents filled out the following questionnaires: Hungarian version of the MHC-SF; the Short Form of the Revised Almost Perfect Scale; the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS-21), the short version of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire; the Big Five Invento- ry-2.ResultsWe strenghtened the bifactor structure of the Hungarian version of the MHC-SF in Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) framework, which allows the cross-loadings of the items. Beside the strong global subjective well-being factor specific (emotional, psychological, and social) well-being factors emerged. Measurement invariance across gender is also demonstrated. The reliabilty of the Hungarian MHC-SF is excellent (ω = 0.79-0.92), as well as its validity. As it was expected, indicators of positive mental health associated negatively with depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms, furthermore self-critical and maladaptive perfectionism. In contrast, global and specific components of subjective well-being were in positive association with adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and certain personality traits, like agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and extraversion.ConclusionsAccording to our results a valid questionnaire was introduced into the Hungarian test system, which can reliably measure global subjective well-being, as well as its specific components.

Work-Life balance has its importance from ancient days and the concept is very old, from the day the world has been created. There was a drastic change that has occurred in the market of teachers and their personal profiles. There are tremendous changes in various families which have bartered from the ‘breadwinner’ role of traditional men to single parent families and dual earning couples. This study furnishes an insight into work life balance and job satisfaction of teachers working in School of Villupuram District. The sample comprises of 75 school teachers from Government and private schools in Villupuram District. The Study results that there is increasing mediating evidence in Work-life balance as well as Job satisfaction of teachers are not affected by the type of school in which they are working. Job satisfaction or Pleasure of life will be affected as a whole by Work life balance of an individual which is the main which can be calculated by construct of subjective well being.

Abstract China is experiencing a large increase in elderly population. In 2019, China’s population aged 60 and above had reached 253 million, accounting for 18.1% of the total population (National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2020). By 2050, the number of adults aged 60+ would be up to 430 million, reaching one third of the total population (Du, Zhai & Chen, 2005). Considering such a rapid aging process and the existing large number of older adults in China, it becomes imperative to investigate how psychosocial factors affect this group’s subjective well-being. This study proposed that, among older adults, higher support received from each of the three relational sources (adult children, family and friends) were associated with reduced loneliness and improved well-being. Structural equation modeling was conducted using a sample of rural adults aged 60 and older (N= 1142) from the 2018 wave of data from the Longitudinal Study of Older Adults in Anhui Province, China. Findings indicated that support from adult children directly and indirectly decreased older adults’ depression and improved their life satisfaction through loneliness; while support from family members directly decreased depression but did not directly improve life satisfaction or indirectly improve well-being through loneliness. Although support from friends did not have a significant impact on older adults’ well-being, it indirectly improved well-being through reduced loneliness. Findings have implications for programs or interventions targeting both parent -adult-child support and friends support and reducing rural older adults’ loneliness.

This study aims to predict the relationship between the ability, benevolence, and integrity of Tokopedia to the trust and participation of Tokopedia customers. A total of 130 respondents were involved in this study. The questionnaire was developed based on the indicators of previous studies. A 5-point Likert scale was used in the questionnaire. Before the data are analyzed using structural equation modeling, the data are first tested for reliability and validity. The analysis shows that there are thress of the seven hypotheses that are not supported in this study. The three hypotheses related to benevolence and integrity do not have a positive relationship with consumer confidence. Furthermore, there is no positive relationship between the benevolence of the company and the level of consumer participation. Discussion and limitations of the study were also conveyed.
