A series of novel indole quinoline derived chalcones were synthesized using cost-effective synergetic catalytic system consisting of heterogeneous basic bleaching earth clay (pH 12.5) and PEG-400 as solvent at ambient temperature with the yields of 60-76%. All these chalcones were characterized by spectral data. Both the DPPH and SOR scavenging assays were performed to evaluate their antioxidant nature of these compounds.

AbstractA novel series of indeno-benzothiazepine derivatives was synthesised via a “green” route. Synthesis of these compounds involves the treatment of dinucleophiles such as 2-aminobenzenethiols with α,β-unsaturated ketones in poly(oxyethylene) (poly(ethylene glycol), PEG-400) catalysed by acetic acid. The synthone α,β-unsaturated ketones were obtained by Claisen-Schmidt condensation of indan-1-one with substituted pyrazole-2-carbaldehydes prompted by bleaching earth (pH 12.5) as catalyst and PEG-400 as “green” reaction solvent. Screening of all the synthesised compounds for antimicrobial activity revealed that most of these compounds exhibited moderate to significant antimicrobial activity.

The synthesis of 14-aryl 14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes is achieved by a simple condensation reaction between β-naphthol with aryl or alkyl aldehydes in an effective synergetic catalytic system created by combining basic bleaching earth clay and PEG-600. The advantages of the present method include catalyst recyclability, superior product yield, a shorter reaction time and the avoidance of hazardous reagents. Synthesized xanthene derivatives were also screened for their antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 96) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Wild).

A new series of tetrahydrocarbazole coupled 1,2-diazoles 4/5/6(a–o) in moderate to excellent yield was synthesized successfully via multicomponent reaction approach by adopting Michael type-addition of hydrazines on in situ generated α,β-unsaturated ketones via aldol type strategy under synthetic microwave radiations and conventional heating. Structural confirmations of all the prepared compounds were achieved by spectroscopic techniques. The best results were achieved when equal amounts of water-acetic acid were used in microwave conditions in 4 minutes.

A simple and recyclable catalytic system for direct arylation of heteroarenes via C–H bond activation was developed with a relatively inexpensive RuCl3·xH2O as a catalyst and PEG-400 as a green medium without any additive or ligand.
